Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Romantic Grey, Monkey and Mustard, Chevron Brunch, Theatre Teal, and Sunday Shop

Happy weekend, my friends! I have several outfits to share, so let's get right to it!

This was Thursday's work outfit.
Pink and red is a typical Valentine's Day mix, but why not add some grey and wear it any ol' day? It's a romantic combination.

  • Blazer - Brooks Brothers, thrifted; last seen here in June with pops of white and navy
  • Lace top - VanessaVirginia, consignment; purchased here for $16.98
  • Trousers - Talbots, thrifted; purchased here in August for $6.95
  • Shoes - Marc; last seen here in March with a badass bowtie
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last worn here in October

This outfit was a remnant from a flurry of wardrobe planning a couple of weeks ago. When I tried the outfit on the night before (because with new items, that's a smart idea - lesson learned on that long ago!), I realized the blouse and jacket I'd wanted to put with these trousers did not work.
I'm still fond of red and grey, though - and still wanted to wear these shoes with the trousers - so I subbed in this new-to-me lace top. I'm wear a pale pink cami underneath it for coverage. It was awesome to wear all day - I did take my jacket off a couple of times.

Mostly I wore the jacket open, thusly.
I had a lot of comments about the jacket being an exact match to my hair. Yes, yes, it is.

Done up - classy!
These thrifted wool, lined trousers were a dream to wear! Heaven!

Bonus for helping my bum look good.
Perfect length, even though they are labeled for petites (I usually find petite pants too short on me, even though I am 5'4"). Such quality, and for only $6.95.

Outerwear - as you might have guessed from the dark stair picture above, it poured rain all day on Thursday. I got SOAKED on my way to my WW meeting after work.
I tucked my hair up under my wool hat to keep it dry. Everything else was fine - real fabrics (like wool, silk, cashmere, leather) don't get damaged in the rain.

  • Hat - vintage, thrifted, Vancouver
  • Scarf - Story of Shanghai, thrifted
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Love these shoes - I've had them for years. They do NOT go out in the rain.

Silver bling:
A few simple things that give me pleasure.

  • Cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver snake ring - 1986, BC Museum Gift Shop
  • Earrings - thrifted

After my WW workshop, I stopped in at home to feed Vizzini, as L was out with friends. I had to dash back out to get to Cat's place for Book Club afterwards.
"I can't believe you're leaving me again."

So sorry, buddy! Book Club went late, so it was a long day too - I missed my kitty.

For Friday, I needed comfy, easy clothes. And monkey arms!
I built this outfit around this new-to-me black wool sweater - it has big strips of faux fur along the top of the arms (hence, monkey arms). I liked how the mustard skirt worked with it.

  • Sweater - Club Monaco, consignment; purchased here for $32.98
  • Skirt - Gap, thrifted; first worn here in August with the jelly-deer
  • Shoes - Hispanitas; last seen here in October in a soft-goth outfit
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here last week

The sweater was snuggly warm all day (I also have a black cami underneath).
The skirt is a bit big in the waist, so it sits a little lower on the hips. I like that - better length and proportion for me.

I rediscovered these funky tights - so fun!
Everything is made better with a bow, too!

Making monkey-arms, as I am a silly person.
I petted them all day, purr purr purr. Almost as good as Vizzini (and less bitey).

Outerwear - I am not being cold!
I didn't need the fur toque at all. Save it till winter, Sheila!

  • Toque - Danier Leather
  • Gloves - Danier Leather
  • Scarf - gift from Mom

The stuff:
These shoes are so funky. I feel 50% cooler when I wear them.

Gold bling:
Simple pieces. I like clean shapes.

  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Earrings - vintage fair

I chilled with Vizzini on Friday night, giving him lots of love and attention while L was out. I also enjoyed that quiet time to myself. Saturday was a busy day, and I needed lots of mental health downtime!

Up for brunch, and dressed for any kind of weather. Could be sun, wind, rain, or all of the above.
My reds don't match but I don't care. All old favourite pieces, just remixed for a nice brunch with my sweetie.

  • Sweater - Contemporaine, thrifted; last seen here in July with the picador skirt
  • Skirt - Hucke, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in February with emerald greens
  • Boots - Adrian Agnes, Fluevog; last seen here (4th outfit) in November 2017 for a long weekend
  • Coat (below) - Stop Staring!, thrifted; last worn here in October

I only looked like this while sitting in Floyd's Diner.
I am quite fond of this chevron-woven skirt, but wish it had pockets. I have a full vintage slip on under everything.

Both the sweater and the skirt are 100% wool - I love the lightness and the way wool breathes.
 Boots for walking, of course.

Outerwear - how most people see me on our weekend brunch expeditions.
All geared up and ready for a nice stroll to town.

  • Hat - vintage, thrifted, Vancouver
  • Fur boa - thrifted
  • Gloves - thrifted
  • Purse - Steve Madden, consignment

Remembering something as the timer goes off...
I like the rear view too.

The stuff:
These boots are really stiff to wear - I also have to know I am not going to be shopping when wearing them, as they are a commitment to get off and on. The ankle harness has to be fully removed. As you can tell by the toes, it was wet out.

Dark bling:
Another favourite piece that L bought me.

  • Necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, gift from L
  • Earrings - Glee

We accidentally tracked a leaf into the house.
"I see you brought me a treat - I approve."

We wouldn't let him eat it, of course, but we do let him smell things.
"Ah yes, a fine oak leaf you've got there."

I love how he's standing up on his back feet! He is very good at balancing.

I got changed when we got home from town - theatre date with Mom!
I had to wear the new dress! And look how well it goes with my teal hat.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style - go, quickly!

  • Dress - Part Two; purchased here for $29.99
  • Shoes - Truths, Makena, Fluevog; last seen here in October with stripes
  • Coat (below) - Desigual; last worn here in February for a weekend brunch

I did my pictures, then had a nap until Mom arrived.
We walked down to the Belfry Theatre, and enjoyed "Mustard" (a very unusual play, review here), and then had dinner at the pub after.

This dress was perfect for a stroll there and back, and good for sitting.
I loved the fringe, although it's not very mobile (no shimmying, aw).

I experimented with a few ways of doing my hair with this wee chapeau, but ended up leaving it down.
The hat is held on by an elastic hidden in my hair.

Outerwear - the coat is such a treasure.
"I think you mean the CAT is a treasure."

It was the perfect thickness for a fall evening - it's wool (in parts) and thickly padded all over, which is why you only see it in the cool months.

Bundled and fully-buttoned.
And with my gloves on. I was completely overdressed for the pub!

  • Gloves - Danier Leather

Bam! Here's the back.
I know, I gasped when I first saw this incredible piece. I have had this coat for 7.5 years.

The stuff:
Easy walking shoes. I was temped to wear my teal t-straps (matchy!), but feared for the suede in the wet weather.

Fancy bling:
I'm always happy to wear one of my custom hats. I was glad to get another wear in of this one.

  • Hat - Tierre Joline, custom; last worn here (3rd outfit) in December 2014 (yikes!) for a Christmas party
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Hematite bracelets - both thrifted
  • Snake ring - 1986, BC Museum Gift Shop
  • Spider ring - c. 1986, gift from Mom & Dad, Mexico
  • Hematite earrings - gift from Mom

From dinner, I returned home to a houseful of friends for an evening of board games. Even with the time change (fall back!), we were up late!

Today was super-windy - I braved the wind and the intermittent clouds to go get groceries.
Just a bunch of things, knowing I was going to go shopping afterwards.

  • Sweater - August Silk, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in March with a Roman skirt
  • Skirt - H&M, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September for a weekend brunch
  • Shoes - Aerosoles, consignment; first worn here in October with jeans and more sparkle
  • Jacket - A&S Selections, thrifted; last seen here over my Starfleet outfit for Hallowe'en

No one saw me like this.
 Except you!

Mostly like this in the grocery store, and the WIN Boutique.
I do not like how the shoes (which are fabulous) look with the grey tights and this long-ish shirt. Reads frumpy to me, a bit.

Done up - for walking about. I clipped my hair back to keep it from tangling in the wind.
I like this jacket, but zippered pockets are just torture. Ouch!

  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
 Comfy shoes for walking.

  • Earrings - gift from Mom

No luck with any clothing - nothing really grabbed me - but I found a book: "Ghost Story" by Jim Butcher.
I've heard this series is good - I enjoy a good mystery.

The furry things are shoe clips.
Regular price $11.99, only $2.95 thrifted.

Vizzini is really impressed with everything, I can tell.
"I'd be more impressed if you just sat down for a few minutes."

He misses cuddling and sleeping on us when our social calendar is full.
"Let's get our priorities straight, Woman. Cat first."

I am in full agreement this time, Vizzini! On my way!

Wishing you all a great week ahead. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. I was admiring the Desigual coat and wondering to myself if the back is as gorgeous as the front -- kept scrolling, and sure enough -- a photo of the back! Stunning!

  4. Oh my goodness! It's hard to pick a favorite look here. All I have to say is, let's go shopping together!!! I really like the lace top peeking out from the shorter, belted jacket and love all of the red coat/hat. You must have so much fun getting dressed.

  7. We put the clocks back a week before you did! I didn't mind the extra hour, although I did feel a bit out of sort the first couple of days of the week ... Anyway. What a bevy of fabulous outfits you have for us, Sheila! I love Thursday's grey, red and pink outfits, especially with the coat and floral scarf. Friday's mustard and black outfit is delicious too. I see you're wearing your poppy, well done! Saturday's outfit, with the chevron skirt and shades of red might well be my favourite. That skirt looks quite swooshy! But then, oh my goodness, that teal frock! It's looking even better on, and I like the addition of that jaunty little hat and that most delectable coat! Hope you have a wonderful week, and that going back to work today isn't too stressful! xxx

    1. Ah, you did! I know, I always feel a bit jet-lagged by the time change. It's a short week for me, so hopefully not too stressful. Thank you for all your kind comments, Ann.

  8. I was glad of that extra hour last week - it made having to get up at 4am a lot less painful!
What fab outfits, love the chevron skirt ensemble and monkey arms especially!
Poor Vizzini - he does look sorry for himself. I love his action shots. xxx

  9. Loved your outfits this week. I think the chevron skirt was my favourite. I do however love a good fascinator. I have a few myself and some other assorted lovely hats. Right now I seem to be very into berets and enjoying my charcoal and black ones quite a bit. I need to pay a visit to Roberta's for a raspberry coloured one, I have been hunting all over for one.

  10. Lovely outfits! I loved the pinky jacket with the red lace top. And as for that grey coat - it's beautiful. It looks like a 1940s coat. And talking of coats, the patchwork coat is simply amazing and looks fabulous over your gorgeous dress and chapeau.

I've never hear of shoe clips before - I assume you jazz up your shoes with them? What a brilliant idea.

How clever of Vizzini to identify an oak leaf - are there no end to that cat's talents?

    Have a great week.

    1. Thanks, Vronni! Yes, the coat brand specializes in reproductions of vintage styles - this coat is probably modeled after one from the 40s. Yes, shoe clips decorate your shoes - fun!

Vizzini is far too clever. He's the smartest cat I've ever met.

  11. My gosh, that jacket does match your hair perfectly, and it has a lovely shape. You have an enviable skirt collection - the chevron one could happily live in my closet! I don't find any interesting skirts in the thrift stores here, at least, not ones that are large enough to fit my waist.

You look great in the teal dress and hat, and that Desigual coat was such a great find. I'm not a big fan of their clothing, but the coat is a stellar piece.

I think Vizzini needs to give Sylvester some lessons in leaf identification :)

    1. Such a nice coincidence! The chevron skirt has been on the chopping block but I still like it.

Thank you! I have fun dressing up for the theatre. Desigual's clothing seems to have become more cheaply made over the past 8-10 years. My few good pieces were very expensive new (and the one consignment piece was also quite pricey).

      Vizzini is a smart one!

  12. I totally love that you have jacket exactly the same colour as your hair - how cool! No success with shopping must have been a blow, is that why you're shopping your closet of late? Yes, I'm so out of the loop sweetie, sorry. The teal fringed dress is very similar to one I have and will be showcasing soon, and your cute little hat matched perfectly. And topping them with that superb coat - no wonder you've had it forever, it's a gem! I have to agree with you about the thick grey tights spoiling the funky shoes, or was it the length of that skirt? No matter, we have all those blips don't we?

    1. It's completely a coincidence - my hair wasn't that colour when I got the jacket!

Not a blow, but disappointing - I do love to shop! But I am finding that I'm being very picky about what I buy, and making sure I really love items.

No worries about being out of the loop, Anna (what loop?)! I'm just happy to see you, regardless.

I think the tights/shoes/skirt just didn't work together. Bad combo, lesson learned.

    2. Just had to add that photo of your sister frock to my blog Sheila. They're exactly the same colour don't you think? xxx
