Copper and Green Rabbits

Still working through my new-to-me purchases and creating new outfits from older things in my wardrobe. That's one of my great pleasures in my life: playing in my closet and making outfits.
This look was built around the shoes, but it features one of my favourite vintage pieces.

  • Top - Gorgeous, consignment; last seen here in January for a corporate classy look
  • Skirt - Kay Unger, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in October with burgundy and leopard
  • Shoes - Chie Mihara, consignment; purchased here for $88.00
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here last weekend

The true colour of this magnificent brocade top is somewhere between that Hallowe'en orange above, and this light orange below. It is roses, woven in orange, cream and taupe/olive. Here's a good close-up of it from when I first purchased it (for $10.00!).
You can also see the green rabbit fur trim around the neckline in that picture. It's from green rabbits, I told my coworkers.

"Really?" they said. People sometimes don't get my jokes.

The top is really fitted and has zero stretch, so my arms and reach are limited. It does force me to sit up straight and have better posture, though. It zips from the bottom hem to the middle of my upper back - it's tricky to get on and off! I hope I never get trapped in it.
I love this bronze metallic skirt - it's leather! Along with a Black Skirt Addiction, I also have Tendencies Towards Brown Skirts. I should form a support group.

Outerwear - I was undercover in my vintage fedora. It was just starting to rain as I got home tonight.
This is my first wearing of this faux fur leopard scarf that I picked up at Sarah's baby shower clothing swap (here) - it's Vero's (hi, honey!). My friends end up with my clothes, and I end up with theirs - it's the circle of second-hand clothes.

  • Hat - Edward Mann, vintage, thrifted
  • Scarf - clothing swap
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These shoes were marvelous to wear, I am very happy to report. Their previous owner thoughtfully put a rubber sole on the toe part, which made them ideal for the office. That platform made for a very stable shoe. They were super-shiny under our bright lights - they had many admirers.

Copper bling:
I love wearing my vintage copper pieces. So pretty.

  • Bracelet/earrings set - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Bracelet - Renoir, vintage 60s, thrifted

And now I'm going to go play in my closet.

  1. Hi Shiela,
Playing dress up is great, isn't it?

Whenever I've worn a leather skirt, they've always been a bit tight and constricting. Are yours comfy?

I don't know how you manage to blog so often, it's amazing. How do you manage it? X

    1. It's the best, Jess! I love wearing leather - don't buy it too tight (but not too loose, either!). It shapes to your body after you wear it for a while.

I only take 6-7 pictures total, I upload them and edit them (crop/colour/resize) in about 10 minutes. It takes me anywhere from 30 minutes (daily posts) to a couple of hours (the Bigass posts) to write the posts. Researching the last time I wore things takes the longest (I get distracted by the old posts!), followed by researching new purchases. I've been doing this for nearly 11 years, though, so I've gotten pretty fast at it!

  2. I giggled at the green rabbit comment! :) This is such a nice outfit, everything works so well together and I hope you do never get stuck in that top, it's so pretty! :) I panic when I get (temporarily) stuck in clothing. Mostly it was bodycon style dresses where I couldn't always reach the zip, ha! But I haven't been favouring them post baby and got rid of most of them.

    1. I rolled my eyes pretty hard at it, Mica, ha ha! Thank you so much! I am very careful with tops like this because of that - I don't want to have to be cut out of it! Ah, bodycon - I used to wear those...

  5. Lol, your gorgeous top is gorgeous! I love both the color and the little bit of rabbit fur at the collar. The details of the skirt are beautiful too. It is such fun to explore and find treasures in our closet! Thank you for your sweet and excellent advice recently. I’m sorry I’ve not been as active with my blog likely.

  6. Your ruffle trimmed leather skirt and brocade top is irresistible, especially with the green rabbit fur at the collar. I'm assuming it is real rabbit fur? Some of my vintage Barbie stuff is made from real rabbit fur! Not green though, but I believe there's some pink in there. Somehow I keep imagining green and pink rabbits hopping around now ... Love the shoes and copper bling. Oh, and isn't playing in your closet fun? Must be my favourite pastime! xxx

    1. Oh, yes, it's real rabbit fur! Ha, I guess my coworkers also found that pretty believable! Thank you so much, Ann. Playing in one's closet is the best!

  7. What a wonderful outfit and I'd never have noticed the fur if you hadn't pointed it out. Green rabbits, indeed! Fabulous skirt; I loved the ruffle at the bottom.

It's also one of my great pleasures too - frolicking about in my wardrobe choosing outfits....

    1. Aw, thank you, Vronni! I love the little details: fur trim, a ruffled hem. They make me happy.

      Hurray for frolicking in wardrobes!

  8. Love this! I’ve been busy at My Sisters Closet, went back and bought the colourful jacket and a black pencil skirt yesterday. Today I went back for the black fancy flouncy skirt. Btw the yellow tag items are now 50% today! There were some beaitiful burgundy Hispanita ankle boots and I think they’re your size, I tried them but My foot is a size 7 and they’re an 8. Just letting you know.

    1. Yay, got your email, and I'm proud of you for going back for those. I was at MSC on the weekend, and saw those booties, but I have ginormous feet, Dar! Size 9.5, usually.

  9. I love the ruffle on the hem of the skirt, it takes it from classic to special. The top is very cool - I could do with more items of clothing that shape you and encourages good posture!

    1. I agree - I have to have that "special" component to every piece. The top is a bit of a double-edged sword that way - it's not a comfy piece by any means.

  10. This vintage top is divine, as is this leather frilled skirt - oh how on earth do you find these amazing bargains? I'd so love to come shopping with you ... My daughter accused me of having a similar Tendency Towards Brown Trousers - may I become an affiliate member of your group?

  11. I like how the neck fur and the small ruffles at the bottom of the skirt look together. It's all in the details.
