Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Cobalt, Adidas and Chevrons; Primary Plaids for Brunch; Winesday in Backyard Goth, Plus Regret-Me-Nots

Welcome back, my friends! It's been a wonderful weekend full of friends and good times, and I have  outfits to share.

I got funky for Friday, with a little "extra."
I happened upon this combination while playing in my closet earlier in the week - so fun!

  • Silk cobalt blazer - no label, vintage, thrifted; first seen here in June with profesh palazzo pants
  • T-shirt - Adidas Farm, thrifted; first worn here in March with houndstooth and groovy boots
  • Skirt - Louis Feraud, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in September 2022 with gold satin
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last worn here a couple of weeks ago with a jumpsuit

I love how the stripes in my Adidas t-shirt go with these bold chevrons in the skirt.
I fell in love with this vintage 80s Classy Designer skirt anew as I swooshed about the office.

This silk blazer is structured but very soft.
These sleeves were meant to be shoved up, very scrunchable.

Isn't it a glorious colour?
That cobalt blue is so rich.

Without the jacket.
I took it off after bounding up multiple flights of stairs in the morning.

The chevron stripes are made by offsetting fabric strips.
It's dazzling!

Incognito.
Friday was much warmer, although still windy and cloudy.

I'm in love with the puffy woven purse.
The colour is so bold, and it's a fun change-up from a "normal" purse or bag.

The stuff:
Toe was okay with these shoes for half a day, then I changed back into my walking shoes.

  • Silk scarf - Metropolitan Museum of Art, thrifted
  • Puffy purse - no label, consignment

Groovy bling:
I forgot to put on earrings for all of my outfit shots, but I did wear them all day.

  • Orange plastic bracelet/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Black and white bangles - consignment
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Granville Island
  • Brooch - vintage 80s, vintage fair

After an evening of music and board games, L and I headed down to the Ruby for brunch on Saturday morning.
My outfit was "Toe-driven" - so comfy boots and the skirt I nearly always wear them with.

  • Leather jacket - Danier; last seen here in March
  • Bodysuit - Escada, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in April for a Mom-Day Adventure
  • Skirt - Vivienne Westwood Anglomania, F/W 2011, consignment; last seen here in December 2022 for brunch with the nieces
  • Boots - Woodland East End, Fluevog; last worn here in December 2022 in the same outfit as the skirt

I mostly looked like this for the morning/early afternoon, as we brunched then ran some errands, followed by our weekly grocery shop.
The skirt is a 12-year-old Vivienne Westwood design, and it's very tricky to style. I usually wear these boots, and other primary colours.

Without the jacket.
This Escada bodysuit is one of my better thrifted finds in the last couple of years - I only paid $12.95 for it.

The flashes of blue you see under the skirt are a vintage slip.
The loops of the skirt have a tendency to open up to my waist!

It was windy and still a bit chilly, so I was happy in tights.
The yellow jacket was a gimme - and it's not the first time it's been worn with this skirt.

Ready to go!
A vintage read purse and a red plaid scarf.

The Movie Star Wrap.
I only wore the scarf like this briefly.

Accoutrements:
I love this red leather purse - it's so 80s.

  • Purse - Bruno Magli, vintage 80s, consignment
  • Silk scarf - Elaine Gold, consignment

The stuff:
The plaid on the boots is printed suede. These are a very comfy heel.

Primary bling:
I couldn't resist a bit of green to go with the plaid on the boots.

  • Belt - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Silver earrings - consignment
  • Silver/enamel cuff - thrifted
  • Silver/malachite bangle - thrifted, Sidney
  • Silver/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique store, Sidney

L had to do some errands, so I had a good look through Dots - I finally found a pair of little undershorts that are long enough and not Spanx.
These blend right into my skin too. Perfect under a sheer skirt or short dress!

Not exactly cheap, but I'll wear these a kajillion times.
Priv clothing is a new one to me - they seem to specialize in lounge-wear, and Dots had a ton of it. This was $24.99 - the $62.00 is the retail price.

After a thorough browse, I also found this floral dress in the "Last Chance" section.
I love the rich magenta-pink and red roses. Vizzini seems intrigued.

It's a classic shirt-style, with buttons down nearly to the hem.
Collar at the top, long sleeves, extra tie belt.

POCKETS!!
I like the shirred elastic sleeves too, a nice detail.

It's made of viscose and recycled wood product (also viscose). It feels silky.
It was marked down to $19.99. It's by Kaffe.

It's called the KAflorina Shirt Dress, and it was originally $49.99 at Dots.
$150.00 would be the original retail price. Dots sells samples from all kinds of European designer lines, what you might see for retail buyers at an in-person trade show. Some of their product is one-of-a-kind or never produced at all (if no one wanted to buy it), or never manufactured in a particular colourway.

I played around in my closet in the afternoon and came up with a Winesday outfit for hanging outside in Vero's backyard.
Many layers are needed. I wasn't feeling very colourful, so indulged myself in some sporty black and white. My gals immediately dubbed me "Backyard Goth."

  • Mesh dress - Dazzle, consignment; purchased here for $16.00
  • Dress - Adidas, consignment; last worn here in February for a periodontal visit
  • Floofy underskirt - not tracked, thrifted
  • Sandals - Sorel; last seen here (2nd outfit) way back in July 2022 with a vintage skirt
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in April

I planned for variations on my outfit. This is the plain Adidas dress with the sleeves pulled up, for earlier in the evening, before it got chilly.
In addition to my floofy underskirt, I also have a black tank under this dress.

The mullet at the back of the skirt is hilarious.
The fabric is a very rustle-y taffeta. I wrapped it around my legs to fend off mosquitos.

I wasn't happy with this mesh dress thing when I bought it, and had stuffed it in the giveaway bag. I pulled it out and chopped off the rounded hemline (see pic here) to make it work better over this dress.
My friends liked the creativity of this look, but the over-layer isn't up to my standard for quality - it feels very stiff and plasticky, so off it goes, to the Great Giveaway in the Sky.

I pulled the sleeves back down to my wrists.
I was leery of dragging my cuffs into the fire while we roasted marshmallows in the backyard (we were extra safe, promise!).

We hung out under the stars, with just the fire and a few candles.
It was a wonderful evening of warmth - it was just a small group of us this time.

Outerwear.
Again, planning for a cool evening. My friends oohed and ahhed over this coat - I've worn it so much to and from work, but they've never seen it in person.

Done up.
I love this coat. It was snuggly warm, and you could see me in the dark.

The stuff:

Toe was pretty good with these - that's not a very high heel and they are very squishy.

Bold bling:
Everyone loves the lightning bolts.

  • Wooden earrings - consignment, Sidney
  • Black and white cuff - vintage, vintage fair
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver balls ring - Sidney

Vero had a bag of clothes for giveaway, and I snagged back two things that used to be mine. Regret-me-nots ahoy!

This early 00s faux leather obi-style belt is by Benetton.
It's navy blue. I'm not sure why I gave it away, but yeah, I'll give it another shot.

This skirt had been put in the giveaway pile after a poor last showing here in March. It's by All Saints, and my former colleague Dominique gave it to me about 5 years ago.
I'm keeping it - I love the lily-of-the-valley pattern and the asymmetrical pouf.

And now, back to my real life and chillin' with my little fam. I hope you all had a stellar weekend! Thank you so much for dropping by - your comments mean the world to me.

  1. Your Friday outfit is fabulous for the color, pattern mixing, shapes and overall pizazz! Methinks you have made be a convert to 99% of your adidas stock, all due to how you style the pieces.
The missing 1% is the adidas dress for winesday, though you came to the same conclusion. :)

Am also a fan of your brunch outfit. Three colors that make a comfortable statement on their own and together. And am absolutely a huge fan of both the cobalt blazer and the Danier jackets! Their colors and shapes are my ‘cup of tea.’ :)

    Cheers,
    Laurie

    1. Oof, “made me a convert” rather than “made be a convert”!

    2. Thank you, Laurie! It's okay that you don't like 100% of the Adidas (and only that over-dress got the toss, not the black Adidas dress). Agreed, I like a fitted jacket too! Hope you and Fred are doing well. :)

  2. Stonking outfits Sheila. Loving the elements of streetwear and punk you've injected into those outfits. I do like an asymmetric hem and envy you having that gorgeous Vivienne Westwood skirt in your wardrobe!

  3. Fabulous outfits as always, Sheila, my particular favourite being the first one. That chevron patterned Louis Feraud skirt wouldn't be amiss in my wardrobe :-)
Also loving the floral shirt dress, and of course the asymmetrical pouf skirt should be a keeper! xxx

  4. I think you're very brave with the asymmetric clothes you wear; I just cannot get them to work for me and won't buy them anymore. I have one asymmetrical knitted skirt that has no elastic in the waist so I have to belt it and pray it doesn't fall down. That works because it is almost a maxi on me. My favourite outfit of yours was the first one; loved the chevron thing you had going on. Wonderful boots/shoes in all outfits and amazing bling. I also loved your new floral dress; what a beauty!

    1. I like some asymmetry, Vronni, but not all. The first one is my fave outfit too - I've been very good with my shoes this week!

  5. Three fabulous outfits, I love all three and you get a thumbs up from Jon for incorporating some Adidas into them! Talking of which, after a couple of years of hunting I've found a bargain Adidas x Farm Rio jacket. So excited!
Vizzini looks suitable impressed, doesn't he? xxx
