Chevrons and Gold Satin

Thank you all so much for your good vibes for Vizzini - today, he seems to be able to see again? A bit? This fluctuation is so stressful on all of us..

More Colour Therapy in today's outfit, in the form of this new-to-me gold satin blouse.
Maybe not quite gold? Mustard? Bronze? Caramel? Orange?? What would you call this?

  • Blouse - Lady Manhattan, vintage 80s, consignment; purchased here for $38.00
  • Skirt - Louis Feraud, vintage 80s, consignment; first worn here in June with chartreuse
  • Shoes - Pegabo, consignment; last seen here in August with a green dress

Whatever colour we decide it is, I paired it with this awesome sewn chevron skirt.
Black and white is an easy match when you have a challenging colour!

As the skirt is unlined thin polyester from the 80s, I'll likely pack it away for fall/winter.
The blouse has been tossed in the wash, as I got something sticky on it during the work-day.

It's a little big on me - you can see that the shoulders are out past my natural shoulder. I did enjoy wearing it, though.
Next time, I will pair it with a slimmer bottom - this felt like a bit too much overall fullness.

Masked up:
Matchy!

Incognito:
How could I not wear this matchy scarf?

Accoutrements:
Hot afternoons and cool mornings. I hope it stays like this for a few more weeks (only one more day of summer left!).

  • Scarf - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I also put these shoes away for the season. They're too skimpy for cold weather.

Black bling:
I liked the brooch at the neck of the blouse (that's how I wore 'em back in the early 80s!), and how it echoed the round medallion on the belt.

  • Belt - Sangiorgio, vintage, consignment
  • Open bangle/earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Black bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Sidney
  • Brooch - vintage 1920s, vintage fair; purchased here for $10.00

I did a little research on this brooch due to the unusual closure, to help me figure out if it's actually vintage or not. I have an umbrella brooch (pictured here with a bunch of other stuff) that has a similar clasp.
The "head" is attached to a tube that pulls out (like a trombone) and the pin pops right out. According to sources (here and here, linking 'cause I love), this is called a "trombone" or "push-pull" clasp, and they were first patented in Britain in 1850, but more commonly used in the early 20th century, up until the 1940s. Some were still used after that, but it's not a type you see frequently. I have literally only ever seen my umbrella brooch and this one with this type of clasp.

As I suspected when I bought it, I think it's a 1920s/possibly 30s design that someone sealed with a coating of acrylic (it's missing a stone under the acrylic surface).

  1. Okay, blouse color seems to fluctuate based on the lighting but I opt for bronze. :) The skirt and scarf were meant to be paired! I don’t recall…is the top long enough to be belted over a pair of pants?

As for Vizzini’s eyes, maybe it takes time for his system to adapt, refine, adjust. Actually, I know nothing about this ;) but, as Fred would tell you, I’m never shy about offering up possible explanations!

Here’s to glorious fall temps, May they ease us into October. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

  3. Splendid skirt. I love black and white and zigzag. My zigzag skirt is ruined in the wash.
The blouse is a model I remember. I would call it mustard.

  6. I'd call it mustard, but I do realize people's perception of some colours can be very subjective.
What I do know it that it's looking fantastic with the black and white zig-zag/chevron skirt. I can't believe how well the scarf matches it!
I've got many brooches with a trombone clasp in my collection. They're a good way of determining whether it's vintage or not. From where I'm sitting, I think it might be early 1930s. I love how you wore it at the neck of your blouse! xxx

  7. I have a new monitor as my old one died and I cannot get colours to look right on it, despite my husband taking a look at it after getting annoyed with my whining when I couldn't fix it, haha! So I think gold is a good descriptor but I defer to others who can probably see the colours better than me. I do like the stripes with it too :)

Such good news about Vizzini as well, although hopefully the fluctuations will level out after more time on the medication and things will always be as normal as they can be for him.
