Periodontal Armour and a Mom-Visit

No Mom-Day Adventure today - it's time for my periodontal appointment. Um, yay?
A ton of Armour is required. I do not enjoy anything to do with my teeth but it is a necessary evil.

  • Turtleneck - Yest; last worn here in January for a primary colour mix at Book Club
  • Dress - Adidas, consignment; first seen here in July 2022 with copper accents
  • Boots - Original Sabado, Fluevog; last worn here in December 2022 during our Christmas visit to Powell River
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana menswear, consignment; first seen here in January with bold white stripes

I have been wanting to wear this whackadoo dress again but it really does require a jolt of DGAF (thar's "Don't Give a Fork") and a ton of styling energy.
I slept in a bit in the morning, then coloured my hair and had a lovely Mental Health play-session in my closet.

A good bout of self-care felt so good. Self-care isn't selfish!
I love the big flounces on the back "train" - the fabric is nylon and rustles like a Victorian bustle.

I have layers on underneath that were ready for me to crash into bed after a quick visit with Mom after my appointment.
My thin red sweater is layered over a t-shirt that I'll be sleeping in, and the fleece-lined tights are my weekend wear around the house.

As I learned from the first time I wore this dress, the dropped elastic waist liked to move upwards as I walked to my appointment. I wore my little sport shorts over the tights for a soupcon of modesty.
Mom picked me up after my appointment (I am woozy from my happy pill, and am not allowed to head home on my own) and we had a little visit at home with Vizzini.

Waiting room look.
No one ever sits near me, hee hee.

Zipped up.
I didn't bother with a bag, just put my ID packet in one pocket and my keys and mp3 player in the other.

It was a windy walk, so I kept my neck warm.
My skirt/train billowed out behind me magnificently.

Accoutrements:
I held the scarf in my lap while my tech worked, and pretended it was Vizzini.

  • Fur scarf - vintage, thrifted
  • Gloves - Danier
  • Mask - by Mom

It worked - I found petting the fur very soothing (that could have been the happy pill talking).
Excellent boots for walking to my appointment and generally for helping me feel like a badass on the outside, even though I'm a quaking ball of nerves when I get there.

Minimal bling:
Not much needed.

  • White gold earrings - Frances Jewelers, 10th anniversary gift from L
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair

Vizzini wanted his dinner when we got home, so he lurked around behind Mom.
"I remember you - you're the one who speaks Cat."

Mom knows her way around cats, and how to get them to fall in love with her.
Getting scritches.

Mom-Daughter selfie!
We hung out and chatted over lemon-ginger tea, then Mom headed home and I'm headed for a nap. Thank you, Mom, I love you!

My friends, this is me signing off until Sunday after the Super Bowl! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, full of joy and wonder. Thank you for stopping by!

  1. I love that your Mum's a cat whisperer!
I bet you're relieved about that dental appointment, it must be hellish to know it's on the horizon when you're terrified of them.
The Adidas is such an unusual piece, the boots are perfect with it.
Have a wonderful weekend. I hope your team wins! xxx

  2. Talking of clothing as armour, your whackadoo Adidas dress definitely has it all.
I'm not a fan of anything to do with my teeth either, and practically need happy pills in the days before a dental appointment, so I am sooo hearing you! Great idea to pretend your furry scarf ws Vizzini!
I'm glad to hear it all went well and your Mom was able to pick you up afterwards.
Have a most wonderful weekend, Sheila, mine will be a quiet one! xxx

  3. Oh no!!! Poor you- dental treatment is horrid!!! Your Adidas dress is really cool! I love the bustle so much. You'd love my friend Debbie's Adidas jacket she was wearing last night- it was so funky with green and orange patterns over it.
I haven't been to the Dentist since 2019- I was due in Jan 2020 but I had awful tonsilitis so I didn't make an appointment and then I was super busy, then it wasLockdown! Really must try and phone and see if they still will have me!

  4. I took special care of my teeth and gums in my 50s (they were in bad shape) and now I'm benefiting from that effort. Keep it up!
