Mental Health Shop in Floral Jumpsuit; Dinner Florals

Just popping in to say hello while stay-cationing early this week. I got dressed on Tuesday and visited some of my favourite thrift stores downtown. L was off gallivanting about with Nick and Casey, so I sucked back some coffee and put on a jumpsuit.
And a bunch of orange accessories.

  • Jumpsuit - Zara, consignment; last worn here in April 2022 with the same orange stuff
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here in May with orange wings and black leather

While I was on the stairs, I spotted a squirrel skittering up a Garry oak.
I see you!

This is how most people saw me.
I walked to town, spent a couple of hours browsing through the big Women In Need (WIN) store, then meandered down to Market Square.

From there, I had a thorough look through Flavour Upstairs, then strolled up to Cheers (a vintage collective) before bussing home.
I shopped for close to 4 hours, and I was tired by the time I got home.

This is a fun jumpsuit - I always gets loads of comments on it. Plus, it has pockets.
I sunblocked up the exposed skin.

It was a gorgeously warm day.
Temps in the mid-20s. What a treat!

The stuff:
These are good shopping shoes, although all the walking and standing...oof, I was glad to get them off. This was an excellent  purse for shopping - it held my wallet, keys, sunglasses and two shopping bags with lots of room.

Orange bling:
And one green! I love all these mod pieces.

  • Purse - no label, consignment
  • Earrings - consignment
  • Coral/olivine ring - Hawaiian, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Orange bracelet/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall

I found Mr. Kitty before I left, sunning himself on the deck.
"Oh, hello."

Vizzini loves this time of year, soaks up the sun.
"That I do."

And...here's what I found on my shop.

This is about 4 inches diameter - it's a shallow bowl. The design is flowers (lilies?), and I think the stone is a wee lapis lazuli.
It says "Chile" and along the bottom "T. Crisol Hecho A Mano" - it's not hard to guess that "Hecho A Mano" means "hand made" or "made by hand." T. Crisol is likely the maker, but I couldn't find out anything about them.

It was only $3.95, but WIN had a 25% off everything sale, so it was actually $2.94.
I found a couple of big plates with the same type of design and also with "T. Crisol Hecho A Mano" - I don't think this is anything fancy, probably just a tourist souvenir. But I liked it.

I also spotted this gold-coloured hollow metal hinged bracelet.
The chain was broken (I fixed it in 30 seconds with a pair of pliers), and there are no marks on it anywhere.

It was $2.94 (regular $3.95) and it fits my wrist really well.
I can always use a nice yellowy-gold bangle that won't fall off!

I found a long nylon vintage slip in with the sleepwear.
This stuff is getting rare and hard to find!

It's a bit big on me, but it'll be nice to have a longer slip in winter for my maxi skirts.
It is by Carroll Reed and was $4.44 after the 25% off. This was one of Zellers' brands, a Canadian small department store chain that closed up in the early 90s (I actually worked there briefly in the mid-80s).

L laughed at this piece of odd underwear. Pantaloons!
They're a longer version of little sporty shorts for wearing under dresses.

They looked like good quality and hadn't been worn too much, and were 50% off the marked price, so $6.47.
Done! I can use these! They are a bit big on me, but I'm totally okay with that.

I found this lovely silk scarf in the very sparse scarf bins.
It's pale pink/peach,  a darker peachy pink, caramel and black.

Although it's not marked silk, I can tell by feel. I wish more of the tag was still on there...
It was $5.87 with the discount.

Finally, I may have achieved peak Mustard Blouse!
This top doesn't require a camisole, as the fabric isn't freakin' see-through. You'd think it would not be so difficult to find a non-see-through blouse.

I see it's from Fall 2019.
It's by J. Crew.
It was a mere $11.17 with the 25% off.

This skirt was a good find.
I love the herringbone weave, the ragged seam down the front and the raw hem.

The lace is very delicate.
I love finding fabrics that aren't printed, but actually woven.

The button with the elastic loop at the top of the back zip is a nice detail.
There wasn't a label at the waist.

So I dug down the seams and found the content tag.
Wool and silk? I like it!

Oh, and there's the brand, right on the back. It's Marc Cain (size N4, for those keeping track - it fits perfectly).
This was $7.47. Similar skirts by him retail between $290-340.00. Score!

I bought this dress because I had a feeling it would work on me, and I liked the deep blue colour.
"Ahem, what about me?"

It didn't look like much on the hanger, but I know Ronen Chen's clothes are good quality and very expensive. This is really nice on, very swooshy - it would be a good travel dress (if I am so inclined).
Made in Israel! Based on the style, this is likely close to 20 years old.

Ronen Chen uses odd sizing, where a 2 is a Medium (1= Small, 3= Large, etc.).
So it was passed over as being too small, and then it was marked down to $12.47. Dresses retail for around $390.00.

Flush with my shopping victories, I had a peek through Vintage After Death, but no luck today. I had a really good look through everything in Flavour Upstairs and was rewarded with this pink cropped tee.
I don't plan to wear it like this - it'll be more of a layering piece.

It was $19.99, which felt a little pricey, but eh.
It's made from organic cotton and is really soft, and the fabric is nice and thick.

I bought this skirt because it fit really well.
I also like the pink, orange, pastel pink, brown and yellow in the pattern.

Have a good look.
Doesn't look like Tommy Hilfiger, does it? I was surprised.

The buttons are all logo'd up.
The inside of the flipped-back cuffs was full of dust! Someone hasn't worn this for a long time.

It's from June 2006.
Hard to believe it's 17 years old.

It was in with the women's clothing, even though they marked it for men.
$29.99 felt pricey (everything feels expensive after a real thrift store), but it looked so good on, I just went for it.

L enjoyed this shirt - it's another piece to add to my Weird Adidas collection.
I giggled at the leopard trim...and is that a toucan??

Yes, it is. It says beside it...
"Tropisch mashup funk Rio / Rhythmus tucano Musik."

The design is printed onto a mesh outer layer.
And the white tee is underneath with the classic logo.

I was happy with $19.99 this time.
I couldn't find any images of this tee - so weird - but this sure looks like a date on the label - Feb 2018.
Anyway, it's a fun piece, and I'm going to enjoy styling it.

My last stop was the Cheers vintage collective, where I tried on a fabulous Hawaiian dress (too big), then went back for this dress.
Love the colours and the full length pattern!

It's by Linda Originals Ltd of Montreal.
I found a reference on a government website to them starting up in 1974.

This is definitely pre-Great Size Shift of the later 80s.
Size 12 modern.

It's 100% polyester - not a huge shock there.
Made in Canada.

Union made!
That label places it between 1968-1984.

Yup, I agree, 1970s, it is!
And only $40? Take my money!

I am always happy to pay a bit more for vintage.
"How about we feed the cat now?"

I just had to model it!

I only had time to take pics of all of my new finds, and then I got ready to meet up with Janet and Ray for dinner at Zambri's.
Janet and I have been friends since 1981 - a VERY long time - and the four of us haven't done dinner together in well over 5 years.

  • Dress - Sundance, consignment; last seen here in June 2022 with velvet shoes
  • Shoes - Sam Edelman, consignment; first worn here in April with jungle Adidas and lace

L and I walked to town and back.
It was such a lovely evening, and we spent hours catching up.

Good food, good company!
This dress is very sheer - I wore an additional vintage slip under the matching slip-dress.

Sunglasses both ways!
Bits of pink.

I was happy I'd brought my cashmere/silk pashmina with me.
We happily crashed on the couch when we got home.

Accoutrements:
Perfectly toning.

  • Purse - Michael Kors, consignment
  • Pashmina - Portolano, thrifted

The stuff:
Pretty pink flats.

Delicate bling:
First wearing of the new bangle - no slipping, no unclasping, etc. Yay!

  • Bangle - thrifted; purchased above for $2.94
  • Green bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Silver/crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Coral/olivine ring - Hawaiian, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Earrings - Reiss, vintage 60s, vintage fair

And now...back to enjoying my stay-cation! Thank you so much for dropping by!

And oh my, didn't you shop like a pro? Vintage slips are indeed becoming a rare commodity, so well done on finding this one. Other favourites are the mustard blouse, the Tommy Hilfiger shirt, and the Linda Originals dress, which looks amazing on you!
Your Sundance dress worn for dinner with Janet is gorgeous as well. It looks deliciously floaty, perfect for a Summer evening! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! You know it - I found some great stuff. It felt weird to be wearing that dress so early in the season - it's usually too cold for it.

  7. Your jumpsuit looks so stylish and comfortable (the two don't always go together hand in hand do they?) and the little hand made bowl is lovely!
The Sundance dress is a perfect "going out for dinner" dress and the pop of pink just adds to the glamour. It's great to have friends with a shared history...I hope you enjoyed your catch up. x

  8. That jumpsuit rocks! I love the orange crossbody bag you've worn with it and those shoes. The chiffon dress is a beauty, too (like Vizzini!)
That Adidas tee shirt is from their collab with Farm Rio. They started dating their clothes (inside seam) in the late 1990s, I wish more brands did that! That Tommy H shirt is really cool! xxx
