Black Satin, White Sweater Vest and Mustard Ruffles

Today's outfit was built around this new-to-me white striped top.
I like layering sweater-weight tops over blouses - it's a warm extra layer and visually interesting. And a good spot for a brooch!

  • Sweater top/vest - Theory, thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
  • Black satin blouse - Madam Q, thrifted; first worn here in February with loud leopard pants
  • Skirt - Faithfull the Brand, consignment; last seen here in May 2022 with black bookends
  • Shoes - Matisse, Sidney; last worn here in February with ruffles and plaid
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana for men, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May

I wore sweater vests in the early days of my blog (here's an outfit from 2010) and have come around to them again after a gap of several years.
I will likely wear this top on its own as well as layered.

The black satin blouse continues to be amazing.
The top half felt more formal than the bottom.

I would wear this with trousers next time or a pencil skirt.
Not to disparage the lovely mustard ruffles of this high-low mullet skirt - I felt good in this.

I like the overall look with the bomber jacket.
More black and white - mix 'em up!

Incognito.
I delighted in the the swoosh of the skirt as I walked around the office, and to and from work.

The stuff:
My colleague Leah exclaimed over my shoes - more black and white pattern. They've been with me for seven years and are still looking and feeling great.

Bold bling:
I folded the graphic scarf into a triangle and knotted it at the back of my neck. Note that the pink in it matches the pink flowers on the skirt - this pleases me immensely.

  • Scarf - vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $5.87
  • Brooch - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver/amber thumb ring - consignment
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Sweden, Anneli Neumann, vintage mall
  • Earrings - thrifted

  1. Excellent outfit! I would love to wear everything! The skirt looks amazing, just the right shade of yellow for me. Aren't the temps that high at your part of the world?

    1. Nope, it's been pretty mild for the last week or so. We're supposed to have a really hot, dry summer, though (yikes). Thanks, Nancy!

  2. Agreed that the top half is more tailored. To my eye the shoes are also more tailored so they sandwich the skirt just right! You look nice and cozy, which I especially appreciate as it’s chilly here in NY. Brrr.

  5. I really like that skirt, and the print mixing with the striped top! The bomber jacket is such a good topper as well. It's quickly become a very cold winter here so I'm all about the jackets!
