Minimalist Monday: Dark Floral Jammy Dress, and Lemon Docs

I decided to wear my new dark floral dress, picked up on the weekend, to work for Monday.
I needed something really easy - and it does not get more simple than a dress.

  • Dress - Kaffe; purchased here for $19.99
  • Boots - Go Groovy Huysmans, Fluevog; last worn here in March with yellow and a pouf

I layered a vintage slip underneath, but other than that, it's just the dress. The burgundy mesh tights are so that I'm not barefoot in my shoes (barefoot is not really to my taste).
I like that the dress is a slim cut through the body, but has bigass full sleeves. I'm a sucker for voluminous arms.

I love the red/purple/magenta mix of this dark floral. I did not wear the matching tie belt - I rarely do, preferring my own belts.
I cut the trashy little belt loops off too - no one tells me where my waist is!

My purple suede belt worked beautifully with these colours.
The skirt portion was just right - I didn't trip on it going up stairs and it didn't snag in my office chair's wheels.

Incognito. Those are some generous pockets!
This Fluevog scarf was the perfect mix - same colours!
  • Scarf - Fluevog

The stuff:
Toe is getting better - I'm doing a series of corn-remover patches - but I'm still being very good with my shoe choices to give all of my toes plenty of room.

Bold bling:
I need shoes in that dark purple colour.

  • Suede belt/buckle - Shi Studio, thrifted
  • Earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Black/red Bakelite cuff - vintage, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment

I'd popped into the Cobbler last week on the way home from work, looking for comfortable sandals that don't make my toes look weird, and while I didn't find any just-right sandals, I did spot a pair of boots that made my heart sing.
These are a gorgeously soft lemon-yellow leather, with non-marking soles, and of course, they are by Doctor Martens (aka Docs or Doc Martens).

"Why didn't you buy them?" asked L. I'd balked at the $159.99 sale price - I'm so cheap when it comes to retail, ha ha. But I thought about them all weekend.
So I went back and tried them on today...and they are mine! They are called the 1460 Pascal Lemon Yellow Virginia and the regular price was $220.00.

  1. What a beautifully vibrant dress and that's a good idea to cut out the belt loops. I too love a statement sleeve!
So glad you went back for the Docs. That shade of yellow will work hard for you! x

  2. That dress looks absolutely fabulous on you, and indeed, nobody tells me where my waist is either. I always cut off these little bitty belt loops. The purple suede belt is just perfect with it. And I'm swooning over those lemon yellow Doc Martens. What a gorgeous colour! xxx

  5. I do love a dark floral and that's a beauty on you! The belt is divine.
I can't wait to share a ridiculous belt I bought from a charity shop before we went to Glastonbury, the buckle is made from glass with Jesus's head in the middle, its got a crack in it (hence being 50p) so he's Crackhead Jesus! xxx

  6. That is a beautiful dress on you and I really like that belt with it! I need to try mix it up a little more - I went through a phase of belting everything a while back, now I tend to default to whatever belt came with a dress, and I need to try be more adventurous :)

I think you got such a good deal on the Docs as well - you are sure to get lots of wear from them!
