Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Sparkle, Saturday Brunch, Sunday Shop - and the New Couch

It's been a quiet weekend, which I have welcomed. Things will be busier soon enough, so I am treasuring these relaxing times.

Here's Friday's outfit - in a shocking turn of events, I actually wore jeans to work for Casual Friday.
I showcased the shiny gold tee, and the super-sparkly loafers. So much shiny!

  • Wool cardigan - Theory, thrifted; last seen here in June with loads of pink
  • Tee - Calvin Klein, thrifted; purchased here for $15.95
  • Jeans - Levi Strauss, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in September to see Frank Turner
  • Loafers - Aerosoles, consignment; purchased here last weekend for $58.98
  • Coat (below) - Vassali, consignment; last seen here last week

I waggled my feet at my coworkers a lot. It got sunny during the day and the shoes sparkled like disco balls!
I did get several shocked reactions to the jeans. I just don't wear them that often - I mostly wear these around the house (I'm wearing them now, as I type this!).

I have two cream wool cardigans, but they are totally different.
I like that this one has the extra back detail, so that it doesn't look too baggy.

Without the cardigan so you can see this new-to-me top. It was okay. I like the silvery-gold of it.
I don't like the jersey fabric, though. It feels so fake and plasticky.

Outerwear - I liked all the layers here. Breaking out my spooky skull scarf for the Hallowe'en season.
 Purple accessories for the win!

Joining up to "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, Go, go, go!

  • Beret - consignment
  • Gloves - Danier Leather
  • Scarf - MetroWear, San Francisco, 2006

The stuff:
The shoes were fantastic! A+ for comfort and walkability. After work, L and I went for dinner and walked home in the pink sunset - not a single blister or rub with them.

Black bling:
I enjoyed all the mixed metals in my outfit.

  • Belt (not shown) - gift from Ruth
  • Chain/leather cuff - local
  • Leather stud cuff - Kipling, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted

We spent the weekend playing board games and watching movies and reading, and of course, playing with Vizzini. On Saturday morning, we did our usual brunch at Floyd's.
Finally building an outfit around these black and gold printed jeans.

  • Top - Hommage, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in February with my other wallpaper pants
  • Jeans - Seven7, garage sale; purchased here for $12.00
  • Boots - Matisse, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September for a weekend shop
  • Sleeveless coat - Only, thrifted; last seen here a couple of days ago

I often like to do a solid neutral with a pattern, but the neutral has to be special too, not just a plain top. This funky top features fabric sewn into concentric, irregular shapes that are frayed.
The more I wear it, the more it sheds and frays. It's a work of art in progress.

The jeans were...too big. I wanted them so bad, that I obviously overlooked that when I tried them on. *sigh* Into the giveaway pile they go. I think they might be perfect for Yvonne...
They look okay in these pictures, but they felt way too loose to wear - I didn't even have to unbutton/zip them to take them off.

Ready for a brisk walk to town.
Long gloves to keep my hands warm. The top shed all over this coat, very annoying.

  • Suede gloves - gift from Mom, first wearing

The stuff:
I love these boots. Never thought I would find this colour so useful!

Bronzy bling:
Cuffs for Wonder Woman super powers.
  • Bronze cuff - handmade, 70s, Mom's
  • Poe cuff - Jezebel Charms, gift from L
  • Earrings - thrifted

Today, I walked to town to get groceries, and browsed in Dots.
Dressed to walk, shop and try stuff on.

  • Dress - Christian Lacroix for Desigual, thrifted; last worn here with green and glitter in March
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September to see Frank Turner in Vancouver
  • Denim duster (below) - Plum, thrifted; last seen here (4th outfit) in September to the last Winesday

I love this dress and always look forward to wearing it - look at all that wonderful pattern!
The upper front part is all hand-embroidered and beaded. The rest of it is t-shirt-y, but it's fully-lined.

I shopped for 2.5 hours, and found about 25 items at Dots (three sessions in the fitting room); this outfit was excellent for trying on clothes.
I don't like the brown tights with it, but they were good enough for a day where not many people saw me.

It was bright and sunny when I left this morning, so I just did this lovely denim duster as my outerwear.
 It's light but has pockets.

Done up.
A couple of hours later, it was raining. The weather changes every hour at this time of year.

The stuff:
One of my best purchases of the last 5+ years, easily. I love these boots.

  • Ear-balls - Dior, consignment

I ended up buying just one dress at Dots, this lovely deep teal one.
It's a V-neck front and back, and very little structure, but still skims the body. It is fully-lined and covered in fringed dots.

It's by Part Two, and was $29.99.
This is a salesman sample - noted is the suggested retail ($199), the alternate colour (black), the name of the dress (Josephine) and the colour (Reflecting Pond).

We bought a new couch over the weekend, to replace our old blue one that's gotten worn out. As we usually do, we bought it second-hand for $399.00 (saving ourselves about $1500.00!). They delivered it and took our old couch away for a fee, but totally worth it.
"Something feels different about my couch."
L took these pics while I was out (that's why they're fuzzy, ha ha). I avoided the delivery - that sort of thing stresses me out!

Vizzini checked out various perches.
"I could get to like this new couch of mine."
Hey, Vizzini, how is it for napping?
"Hmm...would be better if you stopped taking pictures..."
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love the new couch, esp after the King of Cats breaks it in. It looks lush. And you look like a star, with those studded loafers, woman. Great shopping as always; I'm sure I'm not your only reader who drools over your finds! xox

  2. Shame about those beautiful gold jeans not fitting - I've done that a few times in an opshop, got excited and bought it then got home and realised I wasn't thinking properly, haha!

I love all of the sparkle in your casual Friday outfit too.

    1. I was trying them over tights, so didn't get a proper feel for the sizing until I wore them, darn! Thanks, Mica!

  3. It is a shame that your gold jeans didn't fit properly. I often find that with items I buy in charity shops and end up donating them back.

Every time I see you in your Levis I get tempted to buy a pair as they look so good on you. My daughter keeps nagging me to buy start wearing jeans but I am not that keen on denim and have resisted so far!

    1. I don't usually get the size that wrong! But I don't regret them - they are super-cool and my friend will love them. Ha, go for it! Although I wear jeans SO infrequently...

  4. What a lovely new-to-you sofa, I'm glad that Vizzini's coming round to it. It's a grand seat for a handsome cat.
Loving the long coat over the print mini and those wonderful purple accessories with your denim outfit. Shame the trousers weren't quite right, I bet Yvonne will be doing a happy dance when she inherits them! xxx

I've never bought anything made in Copenhagen, I want to see that dress worn soon.

  7. You look great in jeans! The shoes are fab. Such a shame about the patterned trousers but lucky Yvonne! The furry top went so well with the trousers, too. The sleeveless coat is wonderful and so useful; you always look great in it.

I think the patterned dress is fantastic as well!

Your new couch is lovely and I'm glad Vizzini approves.

    1. Thanks, Vronni! I was disappointed in the trousers, but ah well, just means I can look for more! L and I are going to have issues with Vizzini - he thinks it's his couch!

  8. A quiet weekend can be very welcome indeed. I took an extra day off to make it a quiet one! At first I was surprised to see you actually wore jeans on Casual Friday, but then I saw all the sparkle! Both the top and shoes are fab, but I'm sorry to hear the top's fabric is letting it down a bit. Will you be keeping it? I love Saturday's outfit, and the dress you wore for walking into town. I actually don't think the brown tights look too bad with it. Your new-to-you sofa is gorgeous, and what a bargain. Good to see Vizzini likes it too, phew! Ha, and I always tried to avoid being present at deliveries too. That's one of the good things of having a husband who has retired ... xxx

    1. Oh, I'm jealous! I want long weekends! Yup, jeans are not my usual thing at all. Yes, I'll keep the top (at least for a little while), but it's on the chopping block. Thank you for the vote on the brown tights.

I love the couch! Vizzini has taken it over completely. Ugh, deliveries, let me hide!

  9. Beautiful couch, looks luxurious! I never saw your tattoos that well. I love sleeves on women. I hardly ever wear jeans. Gimme skirts and dresses any time!

  10. I'm loving all the outfits, the Friday casual outfit is perfect, it hits all the notes that a casual Friday outfit should! I am searing for the perfect pair of tall boots (muscular calves :( and will eventually find some. I am digging your purple beret, I have recently purchased a black one and have a light grey one, I'm searching for a fuschia/raspberry one as well. I'm going to embellish my black and grey ones with either some small pearl beads for the grey and multi coloured beads for the black, when I get time. You new couch is lovely, looks extremely comfortable, the kind of comfortable that when you sink it you want to snooze kind of comfortable.

    1. Thank you, Dar! Check the Cobbler for boots, and Roberta's Hats for a raspberry beret. I'm sure you can find what you're looking for there.

Charmaine's Past and Present on Fort St is where I found the couch. :)

  11. Madam Shiny Legs, yes, you. In that photo of you in the Desigual/Lacroix dress. Very sexay. You have so many outfits that appeal on here. The jeans are indeed a surprise, but I know your style has no boundaries. I have many pants that I can pull on/off without undoing them, which I usually wear around the house or use my unisuspender when I go out to avoid disaster.

I also love your new couch. It looks warm and inviting. I'm glad Vizinni seems to approve. Deliveries stress me out too.

    1. Yes, even jeans can fit into my style! I don't mind pants like that, but with these ones, I want them to fit. Hmmm...maybe I need a unispender.

I want to sleep on the couch.

  12. You look really rock'n'roll in your jeans and shiny top, with the fab shoes! and I love the scarf too! (lovely purple accessories and brilliant layering!)
Sorry that the golden jeans didn't fit properly, as they looked fabulous in that ensemble. The textured top, the tall boots, everything is stunning! elegant!
Love the Lacroix-Desigual dress, such a fab print! and the long duster looks fab too!
And love that Vizzini approved the new sofá, it looks really soft and cozy!

    1. Thank you so much! I've really paid more attention to my outerwear since I started photographing it as well as the outfits.

It happens - they are just too big, but they are going to a good home.

That's one of the few Desigual dresses that has pattern all the way around, not just on the front!

      Hey, Vizzini-approved, we lucked out!

  13. I don't wear jeans often, but that is because I can't find a pair that fits me in the waist and the butt. If I could find a pair that fit me like those fit you, I would definitely wear them.

Your new-to-you couch is so nice - it looks so cozy and inviting, and it's Vizzini-approved.
