Two new-to-me items in today's outfit, and both of them are pink!
Why, yes, that is a salamander on my shoulder!- Cardigan - Theory, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in May with swooshy greens
- Top - INC, thrifted; purchased here for $6.50
- Skirt - Club Monaco, thrifted; last worn here in May with blue velvet boots and a long sweater
- Shoes - Effortless Vivian, Fluevog; last seen here in April in a winning combo
This was a good outfit for Monday. Nothing too fussy, lots of bling to distract from me being tired.
I like the pink top. It's fine - I have a collection of tops like this, purchased specifically for layering and ease of washing.
I'm very fond of the skirt - I like the crackly pattern.
The cardigan is wool and is not white, even though there's white in the skirt and the shoes.
Eh, close enough.
Just give me another coffee.
The stuff:
I love these shoes - very comfy!
Sparkly bling:
I pinned the salamander brooch up quite high, so that it would look like it was climbing my shoulder. I took the recommendation from the lady who sold it to me, to pin it through both garments (or use a scrap of fabric under the topmost item) so that it doesn't pull the fabric from the weight of the brooch. What a good tip!
- Salamander pin - vintage fair, first wear, purchased for $35.00
- Earrings/necklace - Sherman, vintage 60s, thrifted
- Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
I really like that skirt too - it would work with pretty much every colour you can imagine (except for maybe brown). The salamander brooch is definitely a statement piece.
ReplyDeleteIt has bits of pink, blue and even yellow and orange in it - it's a good pattern. I'm looking forward to doing the brooch on a jacket too.
DeleteI love your new salamander brooch, Sheila! It's so cool! I would have bought it too if I saw it! ;) I also love seeing your Sherman earrings and necklace again: the colour and sparkle is so pretty. XXX
ReplyDeleteI thought of you, Sasha! I knew you'd love it.
DeleteI love that salamander, it reminds me of the amazing jewellery Wallis Simpson wore.
ReplyDeleteFab outfit from head to toe - I love those white blocky heels. xxx
I know, it's so cool. Must find a cheetah one! Aw, thank you!
DeleteI love this outfit - you have done so well with your thrifting!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rebecca!
DeleteSmart to position the (crawling) salamander there and equally smart tip on pinning it to avoid drooping. I've wondered about that with heavy brooches.
ReplyDeleteThere you go - you learned something new. :)
DeleteFab outfit Sheila , what can I say the shoes and the salamander won me over !!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lesley!
DeleteWhat a great tip about the brooch. I love the pink on you and think it’s a perfect combination with the blue shoes and crinkly pattern skirt . LOVE that skirt!
ReplyDeleteI love insects and little critters in my brooches... I have no reason why that is. But I thought I would share that tidbit. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!

I know, such a good tip! It's so logical. Thank you, Elle! I love critters too - I have a collection of bugs, butterflies and even a snake or two! Happy week to you!
DeleteA bit of logic gives often goes a long way. I am so glad that I am not the sole fan of bugs and snakes..,then again, some of my favorite, but unattainable designers, do lots of bugs, butterflies and snakes....I think we may be on to something. Mhaw!
Delete❤️❤️ Elle
Snake designs were popular in the Victorian era! It's not a new thing by any means! I see lots of bugs and things at vintage fairs.
DeleteSubtle and elegant combination my dear Sheila - oh and the critter is already being worn, how cool. I know you had been looking for one since forever.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Lorena! It was fun having my little salamander on my shoulder.
DeleteOh that is a lovely outfit and the Salamander on the shoulder is a delightful touch!
ReplyDeleteGood tip about the double layer brooch pinning- I quite often have a problem with weighty brooches! The sparkles are lovely and so are the shoes!!!!
xx
Thanks, Kezzie! I know, such a great tip - glad to pass it on!
DeleteLove the salamander on the shoulder :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was a fun way to play with a brooch.
DeleteOh that brooch looks so good on! I wasn't sure how big it would be but it's a wonderful size - and plays nicely with your sparkly necklace too! I really like this outfit Sheila! I tried a pencil skirt and cardigan outfit recently and didn't love it but I'm going to give it a go again soon I think! You make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mica! Yeah, those 80s pieces can often be too much - I'm glad this one worked out. You are doing a great job on your outfits lately, Mica.
Deletewhat a fabulous outfit, love the colors, love the skirt (such a cool print!) and love the stunning accessorizing!, the salamander has stolen the show!
ReplyDelete(and such a great tip to wear heavy brooches!)
