Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Funky Friday in Lime, Paisley and Kenzo; Tiger Dress Brunch and a Wee Shop; Aqua Poppies Barbie at the Annual Winesday Pool Party, With Cobalt Velour

Welcome back, Gentle Readers! I have a plethora of outfits and good times to share with you, so let's get going. Fortify yourselves accordingly!

Friday's office outfit.
I hadn't yet worn this skirt this season - just working my way through my backward hangers.

  • Cardigan - Kenzo, consignment; last worn here in January to the grocery store
  • Sweater vest - Theory, thrifted; first seen here in June with mustard ruffles
  • Skirt - Vince Camuto, thrifted; last worn here in April with purple pleats
  • Boots - Slacker Vagabond, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in May for a party at the Park

A little casual, a little funky.
I also hadn't worn this lovely cotton cardigan yet this season. The cuffs both say "KENZO."

The white dots you see on my shoulders are an openwork knit design element, showing the top underneath.
Your eyes do not deceive you.

The back of the cardi is shorter than the front.
This skirt was nice and comfy (and a bit loose, yay).

The striped white sweater is being worn as a top this time.
I first wore it as a vest, layered over a black satin shirt.

Incognito.
This is how I looked when I ran into my ex for the second time this week (so weird, haven't seen him in 7+ years!). Phew, I looked good!

The stuff:
I walked to and from work in these so that I didn't have to lug them back and forth.

Bold bling:
Little bits of colour.

  • Green stone bracelet - vintage 1930s, vintage mall
  • Cuff - consignment
  • Earrings - Plum, c. 2010
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neumann, Sweden, vintage mall

Despite our tiredness from the busy past week, L and I were up till the wee hours playing boardgames and hanging out on Friday night. I enjoyed a sleep in Saturday morning, before getting ready for brunch with Nick at John's Place.
I haven't worn this dress yet this season, and it just felt like a tiger kind of day.

  • Dress - H&M X Kenzo, consignment; last seen here in February for a shop along Oak Bay Ave
  • Sandals - Sorel; last worn here (3rd outfit) in June in backyard goth for our last Winesday

We woke up to hazy skies - we're getting smoke from all the wildfires on Vancouver Island and on the mainland of BC - my province is on fire! I'm safe in the city, so please don't worry about me.
It was still warm, though, so this lovely silk dress was light and airy.

So much swoosh!
I wore a set of black sporty shorts and a tank top underneath - the dress is see-through otherwise.

Incognito.
I forgot to take a picture with my hands jammed in the pockets.

Tiger scarf on my head for driving with the top down.
Take me to town! Feed me! Let's go shopping!

Accoutrements:
The scarf is navy and cream, but I couldn't resist another tiger-ish pattern.

  • Purse - FiveLeft, thrifted; purchased here for $18.95
  • Silk scarf - Bill Blass, thrifted

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for a little walk around town after brunch.

Badass bling:
The dress always needs a belt - it is very voluminous.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Snake bangle - vintage mall
  • Studded leather cuff - vintage 90s
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment

After brunch, L and Nick had a look through Ditch Records, and I had a browse through Dots - they have their fall stock in, and I like to have a look early in case there are any suits or two-piece sets I have to have. I've learned if I wait, I miss out one of the pieces as they are sold separately (and in different areas of the store - you really have to look for matches).
They had a few tops and bottoms in velour (emerald green, purple) in assorted sizes, but because Dots sells samples, it's often hard to find pieces that go together...however, SUCCESS!

This cobalt blue velour (so KLASSY) lounging pajama sets was mine!
It has a hood! And pouch-style pockets in the front.

It's by B. Young, and was $34.99.
Regular price $88.00.

The bottoms.
Such a glorious rich colour.

They were $29.99, regular price $75.00.
I plan to wear these around the house, when company comes over for game nights, pool parties, etc.

After Ditch/Dots, we wandered down to Outlooks For Men to see if there was anything L needed from their sale (nope), and on the way, I spotted a new store - Rise Consignment (link here 'cause I love) on lower Yates Street, where I found this aqua brooch.
I'd  found the amber/silver earrings at Beacon Avenue Thrift when we were standing in line for John's earlier.

The earrings are real silver - there's the .925 stamp.
They were $15.00, a bargain for silver and amber.

Back to the brooch. It looks like vintage 1960s? to me.
Probably some sort of plastic - not Bakelite - you can see that it's been cut from longer strands. This was a dollar! $1.00! Bargain!

Back at home, I spent the afternoon getting ready for the Annual Winesday Pool Party at Marian's place!
The theme this year is Barbie!

  • Dress - Linda Originals, vintage 70s, vintage shop; purchased here for $40.00
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last worn here in July with my bubbles vintage dress

I did pink for the Barbie movie, but always knew I'd be doing aqua for the pool party.
Wig and all! I'm Aqua Poppies Barbie!

The dress is double-knit polyester so very warm.
I love the aqua poppies coming up from the bottom of dress.

I just kept adding green and blue until the outfit felt done.
This is what I wore until I changed into my vintage bathing suit for a swim in the pool.

Incognito.
And with my matchy purse.

The stuff:
These shoes are so comfy and were perfect with the outfit.

Blue and green bling:
My vintage Enid Collins bag gets an outing too.

  • Bag - Enid Collins "Roadrunner", vintage 70s, consignment
  • Green stones bracelet - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Green glass bangle - thrifted
  • Blue bangle - thrifted
  • Green glass cocktail ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Turquoise/silver ring - Glee
  • Earrings - Mangos
  • Butterfly brooch - vintage fair
  • Aqua brooch - consignment; purchased right above for $1.00
  • Green glass bead necklace - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Aqua bead necklace - thrifted

I redid my make-up.
Big winged eyeliner - I'm a vintage Barbie!

And lots of aqua eyeshadow!
I'm ready for a good time, Barbies!

I also planned for my post-swim outfit, when it got cooler out.
No surprise, I was going to wear my velour lounging suit!

  • Lounge suit - B. Young, purchased above for $34.99 and $29.99
  • T-shirt - Corey Hart concert tee; not tracked

Hood up.
All the jewelry off now - I also took the wig off, as it got a bit wet when I was in the pool.

This velour is so soft! My gals were stroking it all night.
It got chilly later on and I was happy to have this.

Without the jacket, but I never wore it like this.
I slept in the tee that night.

Are you ready for our Winesday adventure? Yvonne, Cat and I shared a cab out to Marian's place. You may remember the past Winesday Pool Parties - this is last year/2022 here, the previous year/2021 here and the original during the pandemic here

We arrived and entered the gate, into the house/barn/pool compound.
The far centre fence is the pool area, where our Barbies are waiting for us.

Hi, Barbies!
I see four people, already getting their cups filled.

The theme was Barbie, and the most outstanding outfit of the evening went to Cat, as Weird Barbie.
Stunning! Perfect dress, perfect piece of vintage Samsonite luggage (naturally, Weird Barbie carries a piece of luggage!).

And the make-up! Cat is wearing a wig backwards, with streaks of blue and pink in it, and you can see bits of her real hair hanging out the bottom.
Seriously, Cat, I think you could lean into the is look as you grow into Crone status with all of us...a little Iris Apfel, a little Weird Barbie...I need company in my Crone-age!

OMG, the shoes are so perfect.
These boots used to be mine way back in the day and those are a pair of Ross' socks. So perfect. Cat brought Converse and flip-flops - we all pack properly for these adventures.

Here's Jen with the flamingo she brought.
"Hey."

Petra brought her bestie, Jen from California, who had just arrived in Victoria hours before.
From left: CA Jen, Petra and our host, Malibu Marian - I see you peeking in there, Ali, in your pink wig!

Ali and Caro.
Nancy's unpacking in the background.

Nancy and Yvonne.
Looking gorg in your pinks, Barbies!

Me and Cat.
I mean, Aqua Poppies Barbie and Weird Barbie.

Jen and Petra, later on, when it started getting colder.
Jen, so good to have you - you're now an honourary Winesday Woman and you're welcome any time!

Lots of pics.
Jen, Petra and Ali.

Pics from Petra, Carolyn and me - all the good ones are not mine, ha ha.
Me and Petra. "Let's get that fabulous purse of yours in there!"

A table full of food, mostly summer salads, plus quiche, 7-layer dip, grapes, cheese.
We had a feast of chocolate later in the evening.

Look at these amazing cupcakes!
Jen (OG Jen, not CA Jen) made these. She didn't have a Barbie figure, so used a Bratz. Close enough.

She even made the chocolates on top!
These were confetti cake, with a surprise filling of either homemade jam or sprinkles, with a French vanilla frosting. Very sweet, but I gobbled one down (of course).

We sat and ate for a bit.
Enjoying the warm temps.

And then...time to go feed the sheep!
Marian and her daughter Tiki (ticky) led the way, with Caro right behind.

Tiki rode on her scooter down the driveway to the sheep enclosure.
She was racing away from Weird Barbie who chased her for a bit, to her delight. I love that Tiki will have all these bizarre memories of her Winesday Aunties.

Marian explaining how to feed the sheep.
Note the deer watching over the fence at all of this.

Caro being chased while she tried to take pictures.
The three white sheep are female and the male is black (his name is Oreo, but I didn't catch the others' names).

The sheep look on anxiously.
"Where is our food?"

As Ali, Caro (still taking pics) and Nancy look on.

Tiki will show us how it's done.
She's 9 years old now. How fast she's grown up!

Jen (in the green) and Nancy feeding them.
I did not participate. I'm not so much into animals eating from my hand.

Tiki went off to check on the deer.
"I think Oreo likes me!" said Nancy.

Caro's pic - I'm taking her pic here, see me? I'm kind of hard to miss, ha ha.
We all just stood around and tried not to step in sheep poop.

Back to the house!
Are y'all ready to jump in the pool?

I love how pretty it is with the sun going down.
Time to get in that pool, Barbies!

A bunch of us in the pool (that's me in the blue wig on the left side), and some went in the hot tub and ogled Rod (Marian's husband) doing laundry.
The pool was cold at first, but warmed up quickly. We bobbed, splashed and Ali and Tiki rose the flamingo, then sat poolside by candlelight and drank and ate till the wee hours, when our cab took me, Linda, Cat and Yvonne home.

So much love to my Winesday Women, and gratitude to Marian for hosting us again!
From left: CA Jen, OG Jen, Yvonne, Cat, me, Nancy, Caro and Ali (Marian took the pic).

Vizzini, did you miss me, bud?
"No, sleeping, go away."

Come on, how about some love for me?
"Food equals love, Woman."

And now, I'm off to enjoy some quality quiet time with L and Vizzini before another busy week begins. I hope y'all enjoyed my weekend adventures! Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the blogoverse.

  3. Echoing both the comments from a reader in Australia and Nancy. You and your friends are mistresses of fun, fashion and delightful frivolity! I especially liked your outfit - wig, dress, shoes, the whole ensemble. Same goes for your silk dress with belt worn for brunch. Gosh I admire your skill at pulling off maxi dresses with volume!

We monitor the air quality for Robin in Olympia and hope that the quality doesn’t impact him or you. A little bit of smoke is manageable; a lot, definitely not.

    Cheers,
    Laurie

    1. I have some amazing friends, Laurie - I love how into the theme they got! We're getting some haze, but nothing like a few years back...yet.

  4. Fabulous outfits as ever but my absolute favourite was Aqua Barbie! Loved the shoes with it, the Enid Collins bag (gorgeous) and the fab accessories. How amazing to go to a pool party. Loved all your friends outfits, too - what a fab group of women. Your new velour lounging pjs are ace! I also was very taken with your bargain aqua brooch and the fab amber and silver earrings; I would have snapped both of them up, too.

Glad you're safe from the fires as is OH's brother but how awful for the the people affected by them.

  5. Fabulous outfits as always Sheila, and doesn't it feel good running into one's ex when one is looking good? I haven't seen mine in ages, although I did see another ex of many, many years ago recently, after 30 years perhaps. That was very weird!
Anyway, it's great to see your H&M X Kenzo dress again, and your Winesday Pool Party outfit - which is my favourite - is an absolute stunner! Loving the aqua wig. And I'm really coveting the aqua brooch you found!
Great score on the velour two-piece set. They do sell sets separately at Think Twice as well. I wish they didn't do that, though! xxx

    1. Thank you, dear Ann! Yes, I was glad I was looking my best, ha ha! Thanks so much - I always move matching pieces next to each other in the vintage sections of thrift stores.

    2. Me too!! Why would you separate a vintage suit? It feels like a crime they were made to be together. Julie in Melbourne

  8. Beautiful outfits. The Barbie outfit is my fav. You look adorable! I love the blue wig on you. This shade of blue is so fabulous on you. Maybe you can consider it as a hair colour. What a fun idea to do a Barbie party!

    1. Thanks, Ivana! I had a lot of fun dressing up for the pool party! I have dyed my hair blue in the past, but it makes my skin look really pink. I'll stick with lavender.

  9. As soon as I heard about the wildfires on the radio last week I tuned into your blog to check that all was well, I'm so relieved that it is.
Come on, Barbie, let's go party! I love Aqua's Barbie Girl and your Aqua Barbie outfit!
You have so much fun with the gang, thanks for sharing! Weird Barbie rocks ('[d wear that dress in a heartbeat!)

    1. We've just had smoke and haze here, Vix - although there is a campfire ban province-wide, and there have been some fires on the Island.

I love that song too! Woo! We had a great time - Weird Barbie is the best!

  10. I love the wig! You look so perfect for a Barbie themed pool party! I really like the way you coordinated everything, and Cat looks amazing as Weird Barbie.

It's good you are safe from the fires. My sister was in Canada recently and it got a bit scary when all her gorgeous landscape pics became smoke filled landscape pics. The last day or two of the tour the itinerary changed to be safe from the fires, but I really don't think she was that close. I know she was in BC but it's very very large so still quite a distance from you, and hopefully from the fires! She stayed in Vancouver for a bit, that is where her friend lives.

    1. It was such a fun time, Mica! Thank you!

Yes, BC is huge - the Vancouver area was mostly safe, although we were all impacted by the smoke. Glad she had fun!
