Woven Jammy Dress and Copper Bits

I had lunch out with a work committee today - we did fabulous sushi at local restaurant Toro. I had to dress funky if I was seeing my lovely colleagues after days, weeks and months.
Nothing new here, just a remix of a few things in my closet and jewelry collection.

  • Dress - Trina Turk, consignment; last worn here in June 2022 with these same sneakers for a Mom-Day at Colquitz River Park
  • Sneakers - Steve Madden, thrifted; last seen here in July for a Flouncy Friday
  • Jacket (below) - Dolce & Gabbana menswear, consignment; last worn here in June with mustard ruffles and black satin

I am a fan of black and white prints, but it's even better when it's a woven pattern.
This Trina Turk dress is cotton, with a loose/tight weave - I like how the bottom is rotated - and as you can see, it has pockets!

It's also made in the US, and the lining has a deep hem of black lace which peeked out when I was sitting at my desk.
It's just a great jammy dress. Peak Jammy!

I am wearing nylons, full disclosure.
This dress is rather short, and they gave me a sense of security, as well as covering up my veiny, speckled and scarred legs. That skin has seen things!

Incognito.
I wanted sun coverage for my walk commute, plus this jacket has a kajillion pockets. Of course it does - it's made for men. Sigh.

The stuff:
I have not achieve Peak Sneaker yet, but these will certainly do for now. Black, white, metallic, copper, comfy!

Copper bling:
Black and white clothes make a good backdrop for my copper bits.

  • Copper necklace - Renoir, vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Copper link bracelet/earrings - Renoir, vintage 50s, vintage fair
  • Black cuff - vintage mall; purchased here for $12.00
  • Copper ball ring - consignment
  • Copper ring - Glee

The new black cuff was made for this dress! Loved it.

  2. Black and white jammy dress, perhaps among the easiest patterns to style. I checked out the designer’s website and Oo La La her clothes are not inexpensive, so super to find this dress in one of your “wee” shops.

Interesting comment about pockets in men’s jackets…I have long thought that boys clothing was better made than girls, my focus being on outfitting young children. We didn’t have girls but comparing notes with others it seemed like boys clothes were made for rough and tumble wear but not so for girls. Back in the 80s and early 90s I did bemoan that the vibrant colors and patterns tended to be for girls but not boys. Boys clothing had durability; girls clothing had pizzazz!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Yes, Trina Turk is not cheap, which is why I leapt at this for I think it was $52? Especially for made in the US!

Oh, there are definitely different standards for boys/girls - it's absolutely gendered. You're right about the pizzazz, though - L often bemoans how hard it is to find bright and colourful and funky things for men.

    2. You’d think there would be a market for a budding designer to make their niche in colorful and interesting menswear.

    3. You would think that! I guess there are not that many men who want to "peacock" like L does.

  8. I've not posted an everyday outfit photo in an age but I wore a 1960s psych mini dress with trainers and one of my floral Adidas trakkie tops to go swimming the other day - great minds think alike! xxx
