Thousand-Dollar Vest, Passing the Pink and Purple

Back to work today - it felt like a Monday!

I built my outfit around my latest second-hand Thousand Dollar acquisition, this Ann Demeulemeester vest.

  • Blouse - Vince Camuto, consignment; last worn here in April with a matchy skirt
  • Vest - Ann Demeulemeester, thrifted; purchased here for $24.95
  • Trousers - Talbots, thrifted; first seen here (2nd outfit) in June with a pajama jacket
  • Shoes - Yuko Imanishi; last seen here in February with teal and dragons

"Latest"? Why, yes, I also have a Thousand Dollar Sweater (this one here retailed for over $1400!).
You don't find thousand-dollar items second-hand everyday!

Anyway, the vest itself was fine, but I did not like the rest of the outfit.
I am passing the pink and purple on to the Great Giveaway Bag.

The pants are baggy and got baggier as the day went on.
And although the winged blouse is very cool, it's also too big in the neckline, sliding around this way and that. Very annoying.

Incognito.
I didn't try my outfit on last night, so I've paid the price. Ah well, tomorrow is another day.

The stuff:
I haven't worn these shoes in months, due to bad Toe issues - they were lovely and comfy to wear again.

Amethyst bling:
Some of my oldest personal jewelry.

  • Scarf - Fluevog
  • Amethyst crystal pendant and silver/amethyst earrings/ring - gifts from Mom & Dad c. 1987-1993
  • Steel/stone bracelet - Maltese, vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Filigree metal/amethyst bracelet - vintage 1920s/30s, Gram S.

Mixing my metals, such a rebel.

  1. Holy Schamoley! What a find. This is why I always look in thrift stores in affluent neighborhoods. Rich women donate clothing with the same nonchalance as middle- and working-class women and those items are sometimes as nice as this vest.

    1. I know, I find it hard to believe someone donated Ann Demuelemeester! Sometimes these donations come from relatives cleaning out a house after a death too, and they may not know the "name" designers.

  2. Sentimental jewelry is the best because, for me, I feel like the previous owner is along for the ride with me. The lines of the shoes are striking, I like the off center/cross foot strap. And I say ‘good riddance’ to the pink and purple! No point keeping any piece that doesn’t make you smile.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I love wearing pieces that belonged to my relatives - it makes it so meaningful when I wear them. I liked that about these shoes too - no boring shoes for me, Laurie! Exactly - I don't find it hard to move things along that aren't working.

  3. What a shame about the baggy pants and misbehaving blouse! Better luck for the Thousand Dollar Vest's next outing! Glad to hear the shoes are comfy again, and I'm absolutely loving the Amethyst bling! xxx

    1. Ah, well, you can't win 'em all, Ann. They'll go to someone who loves them. I will try to re-style the vest again soon. *smile* Glad you enjoyed my "family" amethysts!

  4. Well I think you look fab but I don't blame you passing things on to the givaway pile. Life is too short. It took me a long time to realize that is I don't like something I do not have to wear it! All my clothes are second hand (love it better than buying new much more fun). those shoes and that jewelery ahh swoon and yes look forward to seeing how you style your thousand dollar vest! shazx

    1. Aw, thank you, Shaz! I only want to wear things that make me feel and look great - all others must go. I love that you're 100% second-hand - you go, girlfriend!

  5. From here the outfit looks fab but baggy trousers and a misbehaving blouse are things no woman can tolerate!
I've just Googled Ann Demeulemeester - I know the name but not the woman behind it. There's an amazing feather trimmed crop top (1992) and a sequined corset (2004) I'd kill for and if the goddess that is PJ Harvey wears her stuff you're in great company! xxx

    1. I nearly reconsidered when I saw the pics - it doesn't look too bad! But in reality, both pieces annoyed the crap out of me, Vix. I have only seen 1-2 other pieces by AD at high-end stores - they are super-rare.

  6. Jeepers! I'd never heard of Ann Demeulemeester. What a find! Love those sleeves. I will be making a note of that, although I doubt any of her stuff will turn up in our charity shops any time this century! x

    1. She's not very well-known - I'm glad to share the name around. You never know - now that you might recognize the name...? Maybe something will come your way!

  7. Oh isn't that so very irritating, when you wear a outfit all day you don't like! Waist of day. But the colour combination is pretty!
