Sneaky Casual: The Most 80s Blazer With White Jeans

Since today's my Friday I decided to go Sneaky Casual with my work outfit.
I am pretty sure my boss didn't notice these are jeans - he was reeling from the visual impact of my Most 80s Blazer Ever.

  • Blazer - Escada by Margaretha Ley, vintage 80s, thrifted, Powell River; first worn here in September 2022 with polka dots
  • Top - AWear, vintage 90s, thrifted; last seen here in April when Mom and I got lost on the way to Heritage Acres
  • Jeans - Articles of Society, thrifted; last worn here for a Mom-Day earlier this month
  • Shoes - Karl Lagerfeld; last seen here with these jeans

Seriously, it's really something, isn't it?
Giant shoulder pads, tiger stripes AND masses of butterflies.

It's almost better from the back. It has two big pockets on the front, and the pattern is lined up so beautifully - there is actually a seam down the center of the back.
I thrifted this beauty in Powell River a year ago for $15.00 - what a thrill to find vintage 80s Escada (100% cotton! made in Germany!). It was smooshed into a sad wrinkled mess in a smelly, disorganized thrift store, but my steamer and some Folex helped bring it back to life.

I layered a classic 90s mesh top underneath - I hear the cool kids are way into these.
The white jeans are my preferred pair - the others are in the giveaway bag now.

I only took the blazer off when I first arrived at work. I get a good glow on after zooming up 6 flights of stairs.
Also demonstrating the frustrating lack of front pockets by slinging my thumbs through the belt loops. I would have skipped the belt loops and had pockets instead! Just sayin', designers!

Incognito.
I'm practically invisible!

The stuff:
These patent leather ballet flats are totally trendy right now - I've had them for years.

Matchy bling:
The sparkly bug brooch was camouflaged in the jacket's pattern.

  • Silk butterfly scarf - vintage, consignment
  • Orange bracelet - consignment, Sidney
  • Black and white bracelet - vintage fair
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Flower ring - Sidney
  • Earrings - vintage, vintage fair
  • Brooch - vintage fair

And now, I'm officially on vacation! Woo! Whatever am I doing to do with my time? STUFF. Y'all will just have to tune in and see!

  1. I’m literally weeping with laughter at the thought of your manager reeling from the impact of that astounding blazer! Thankyou for your constant cheeriness and humour Sheila, you are a bright and uplifting presence in the increasingly odd and unreliable world (and internet) we live in. I am so grateful for your attitude and your daring and inspiring approach to fashion. Leanne from Australia.

    1. My boss is pretty used to my wacky style but this is a rather bright and in-your-face blazer - it was a lot before his first coffee, lol. Aw, thank you so much for the sweet comment, Leanne! Big hugs to you, my dear.

  2. Your blazer reminds me of the Jedi Mind Trick: There are no jeans to see here. ;)

This is an outfit to wash away even the grayest of days or the lowest of moods! It’s the Start of Vacation Energizer!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. It's pretty hard to even notice the jeans with that blazer going on, isn't it, Laurie? Thank you!

  3. I love that Escada!! It would pair with your yellow leather skirt, too!!

  4. Are you not allowed to wear jeans to work then? Apparently, our colleagues in Miami have a whole list of items they cannot wear, including jeans, strappy tops or dresses and ... sandals! I'm shuddering at the thought.
Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised at all if your boss was reeling from the sight of your "Most 80s Blazer Ever". It definitely couldn't have been more 80s if it tried. And wow, finding vintage Escada in a thrift store is absolutely amazing!
Have a fantastic vacation whatever you're up to Sheila. Can't wait to read about the stuff you'll be doing! xxx

    1. Wait, they are not allowed to wear dresses? That does sound super strict.

    2. We are, on Fridays, but post-Pandemic, every day is Friday. We aren't supposed to wear them (much less ones with distressing/tears on them), but everyone just ignores that "rule." We have those same rules about straps, but they are gender discriminatory. Sandals seems like too much, but I'm sure they're trying to avoid beach-wear.

I know, I love this blazer! It's so fun, and was such a deal. Thank you, dear Ann!

    3. Ivana, she means dresses with thin straps, that basically show a lot of skin or one's bra. Always aimed at women, how rude.

  5. You have certainly styled your white jeans fabulously. I absolutely love the lively blazer. The pattern is so pretty. I love how it matches both your white jeans and the yellow shoes. The white and yellow in the pattern matches the jeans and the shoes perfectly! Great styling, super pretty look on overall!

To me white jeans almost don't feel like jeans. They just don't feel casual the way a pair of blue jeans does. The same goes for a pair of black jeans. Wearing white or black jeans with blazers doesn't give those casual vibes. It looks professional and elegant.

I think that most workplaces that aren't keen on jeans as an office attire, will permit a pair of white jeans when styled well. I don't wear jeans to work even though in my present school there's no rule against it. However, maybe this school year / next semester, we'll get a more stricter code of dressing. I just lost the habit of wearing jeans to work but I might try with a white pair soon!

    1. Thank you, Ivana! I liked how the white jeans went with the funky blazer - I really liked this look. I agree, coloured and white and black jeans just don't feel like jeans, especially with a blazer or other professional styling.

I agree - I'm in IT, and our dress code is pretty relaxed (even more on the West Coast of Canada vs. Montreal or Toronto). I just find blue jeans a bit boring - I'd rather wear a more interesting garment.

  7. Jeans, what jeans? Boss man, It's your eyes playing tricks on you.
That blazer couldn't be more Eighties if it tried! xxx

  8. They don't look like jeans! I would never know! I think only blue ones count as jeans! The guys at my work wear Chinos all the time which are a lot scruffier than jeans! We aren't allowed jeans either!
Most 80s Blazer Ever- ha, yep! That's true! I love the thought of your boss reeling! My boss reeled when I asked him if his shoes were from Fly London (they were) and another time when I said, "Look,we've got the same shoes on!" We did indeed have almost identical brogue boots. Mine were men's boots! :-) x

    1. I agree, Kezzie - but it still feels like I "got away with" something, you know? Chinos can look really scruffy, same with khakis - there are even men at my work who wear Lululemon trousers!

My boss is pretty sanguine about clothes, but he definitely blinked a few times over this blazer! It's so bright! Wow, you're a secret shoe matcher!

  9. Escada is such a quality brand. As the jacket shows. An I am a bit envious of your yellow ballet flats, even though I know they don't look good on my flat feet.
