On Trend Stripes, Polka Dots and Dark Floral, Plus Toe-Veto Farewell Flashback

I just read Sylvia's latest email on Fall Fashion Trends for 2023 - link here (now fixed!) 'cause I love and met her at the Vancouver Blogger Meet-Up - we shopped together! She's lovely.

*ahem* Anyway, I always enjoying keeping abreast of the trends and looking for similar in the thrift/consignment shops. Everything old is new again!

I can also shop my closet for things I already have that are on-trend and combine them in new ways. It helps spur creativity.

  • Top - Marimekko, consignment; last worn here in July with orange and yellow brights
  • Skirt - Baraschi, consignment; last seen here in May 2022 with teal and purple
  • Shoes - Blaise Poser, Fluevog; last worn here in May with my neon orange jumpsuit

I'm wearing stripes, polka dots and dark floral from Sylvia's trend list - and it's all from my closet.
The stripes are a wonderful knitted Marimekko cotton top in vibrant shades of blue.

I love the polka dot/floral pattern mix and all the colours - I can match all kinds of colours with it.
The skirt is also a cotton blend, and it's fully-lined (and the lining is stitched to the hem, a wonderful detail).

And it's also ruched on the sides, so I could also add that trend.
I was dripping wet by the time I got home. Another day in the low 30s (feels like 37, yay!).

Incognito.
This was an easy combination - I would wear it again, with a blazer or other cute jacket when it's not so danged hot.

The stuff:
This is it for these shoes - they felt way too narrow and the heel rubbed a blister within an hour. Toe gave them a firm veto - they squished my toes like a bad handshake, and I could feel where my corns used to be. It's time to move them along - I have a wee Flashback below for you, to bid them adieu.

Bright bling:
I love all these colours together - my newly-thrifted bangle fit in well and did not bother me, even while I wielded a packing tape gun.

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Orange bracelet/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Blue bangle - thrifted; purchased here for 75 cents
  • Silver/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver

Flashback: Blaise Poser Fluevogs

Well, these didn't last very long in my closet, did they? I bought them here in January 2023 with gift cards for $203.99 - they were free...for me. Not so much for the people who bought me the gift cards - sorry! Toe wants what it wants.
I've had this same shoe in fuzzy purple wool (these ones seen here) and they are also gone to the great giveaway pile in the sky a couple of years ago.

I didn't learn my lesson! Don't buy shoes in this family anymore, Sheila!
While they are ever so pretty, I don't reach for them, and they killed my feet at work. I could not wait to get them off - and changed back in to my walking shoes before noon.

So, let's see how I've worn them. I had to style them up right away in January after I bought them.
This outfit hinted at the trouble they would cause. I struggled so much to style them, I had to resort to a plain white shirt (I know, so NOT me).

While I love this outfit from May 2023 - it's an orange jumpsuit, what's not to love? - I could have swapped the florals shoes out for any number of more comfortable pairs.
I did like the match with the necklace - it's the same one I wore today.

Mathy stuff: That's a whopping three wearings of these shoes, which...well, they can't all be winners, right? That's $68.00 per wear, but of course, they were free with gift cards which works out to zero per wear.

I will probably consign these versus giving them away - I've been pondering this route lately for some of my more swanky shoes and clothes - but either way, these are gone from my closet! And that is definitely Toe-Approved.

  2. Have you thought of the Flu(vog)Market for those shoes? Three wears is almost new & you could use the proceeds for more! Thanks for the inspiring blog.

    1. I don't sell online at all - I'll likely consign them at one of the local shops.

  3. Stripes and florals are a match made in heaven aren't they? I wore just such a combination yesterday. I'm always on the lookout for Breton tops.
That orange jumpsuit is always fabulous!

  5. Alas for those wonderful LOOKING shoes, but if the WEARING isn’t up to snuff for the toes then there is no alternative: Shoes Be Gone! Despite that, I love your entire outfit from head to toe and if you pair them again I’ll keep my eye attuned to what shoes you select.

I’m a big fan of blue tops; add stripes and I’m hooked! The skirt is perfect in every way, which means same for the entire outfit. Flattering and fun!

    Cheers, Laurie

  7. I'm swooning over this outfit, Sheila, and also sweating a bit as the temperature is slowly but steadily climbing towards 30°C here as well.
The dark floral and polka dot skirt is a delight and so are the Marimekko top and bright bling. And the shoes! Sigh! What a shame they don't agree with your feet :-( xxx

  8. Love a stripes&florals combo and yours is totally delightful!, the striped top, the dark florals, the necklace and even those evil shoes that are so beautiful!. But totally agree about pleasing our poor feet even if sometimes it's hard!

  10. I love the mash-up of stripes and florals, it's absolutely fabulous. Such a great outfit, minus the blister inducing footwear (ouch!)
Festivals are my catwalk, this year it's all about ultra low rise cargo pants, clumpy Buffalo-style trainers, mesh crop tops and Chinese prints - it's like the 1990s never happened! xxx

    1. It's one of my fave pattern mixes, for sure. I'm sad about the shoes...but not THAT sad. Ooh, love hearing what the kids are wearing! Very 90s-inspired! Thanks, Vix!
