Chrysanthemums and Acid Wash

When I've worn an outfit I've been dissatisfied with like yesterday's, I tend to fall back on either a dress the next day, or an outfit full of old faves.
Well, it's not a dress, so it must be old faves.

  • Denim vest - Chiqle, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in May for a concert
  • Shirt - Eddie Bauer, consignment; last seen here in July with a red leopard suit for another concert
  • Skirt - Vivienne Tam, 2000 Fall Ready-to-Wear, consignment; last worn here in May 2022 with lavender
  • Shoes - Enneagram Individualist, Fluevog; last seen here in June with blue and tweed

My lovely chrysanthemum skirt is on its 20th wearing with me over the 13 years I've owned it - that's a lot for me!
Add a white shirt.

And an acid wash 80s-inspired vest, because duh. Acid wash!
And there you go.

I was slammed today at work, doing a lot of head-down finance stuff.
No time to chit-chat with my colleagues (boo). It's almost like the Before Times.

Incognito.
I had a plan to tie the scarf around my head (aka the Movie Star Wrap) if rain started, but it cleared up - sunshine is back, at least temporarily.

The stuff:
Superbly comfy shoes. And such vivid colours.

Heart bling:
Although I didn't build my outfit around the new-to-me silk scarf or velvet earrings, I keep my not-yet-worn accessories in eye range so that I remember I have them.

  • Scarf - Roberto Cavalli, thrifted, Vancouver; purchased here for $15.00
  • Belt - Lady Foot Locker, vintage, thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - Dolls Kill, thrifted; purchased here for $7.95

  3. I love the combination of that floral skirt and those shoes. A white shirt is always a good pick. The denim vest is fabulous as well. The scarf is very pretty. You look chic.

    1. Thanks, Ivana - I agree, I like a white shirt. Sometimes you just need something plain for all the bright stuff to shine.

  4. How beautifully the shirt and the shoes match! It's a fabulous outfit and I liked the scarf tied cowgirl style with the buttoned up waistcoat. Glad to hear you have sunshine - it was the same here and was 25 degrees - yippee!

  6. Surely this outfit more than makes up for yesterday's disappointing one.
I'm loving the colour extravaganza supplied by your skirt and scarf, and those shoes have me swooning! xxx

  7. Skirt, earrings, scarf and shoes and in between the white blouse and acid wash vest…the latter two making it possible for the rest to brighten the day. Cheerful outfit so I hope your colleagues at least saw it, even if there wasn’t time to chat with them! I especially appreciate that an old favorite still tickles your fancy. I recently tried on a favored 3 year old dress and was chagrined to see it wasn’t making my heart sing. No fears…it will get another season to see how I feel about it!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I ascribe to the "Cake and Icing" method of dressing, where the white shirt and denim vest are my "cake", balancing off the "icing" of all the bright colours and pattern. I don't think I saw too many people that day, so I'm glad you're here! Aw, sorry to hear your old fave didn't sing for you - time to let it go, maybe?

    2. Hmm, the dress has sentimental value…I bought it when shopping with Robin’s at-the-time partner of 6 years. She and I have remained in touch. Hence I’m willing to give it one more season. Or maybe do what you do with some of your older shoes and consign it to, in this case, a museum of sentimental pieces in a clothing bin.

    3. Aw, that is nice that you have this memory, Laurie. Give it another shot, but if you are keeping it purely for the memories, then archive it.

  8. Love how you've styled your denim vest with a crisp white shirt. I have a vintage Wrangler denim waistcoat that I rarely wear as I just can't seem to make it work for me, but equally, I can't bear to part with it. You've inspired me to persevere! x

    1. I love vests for adding that extra something to an outfit, Claire. Ooh, sounds like you have a treasure - I hope you can style it to your satisfaction!

  9. I love the layering of the best and how well it works with that pencil skirt to create the perfect office outfit for you :) I'm starting to feel a bit lost with office style now I'm back in the office more days a week. There's the super casual people (one of the guys was in shorts the other day) and then people back in office wear and I'm not really loving my pencil skirts as much as I did pre pandemic. I think I just need to keep trying more things and find what works now.

    1. Thanks so much, Mica! I know, office style is challenging in these hybrid times! What to wear?? One doesn't want to be too casual, but a suit feels like too much. Play around until you find what is right for you.

    1. I love a good classic pencil skirt, even a black one - and it doesn't surprise me that you go for black, Nancy! :D

  11. It is a fabulous skirt so no wonder it's hung around for so long. I really like it with the white shirt and denim vest.

    1. It really is - if it stops fitting me (it's snug), I'll archive it, never for us to part.
