Nice Outfit, Number One

I had more compliments on this outfit from colleagues at work than I've had in years - it was like the Before Times!
Most of them said, "Star Trek!" or thought it looked very mod (but not "Maude" mod, one clarified). I definitely am giving that mid-60s groovy mod vibe from this ensemble.

  • Dress - Bruno Ierullo, thrifted; purchased here for $39.98
  • Boots - Warhol F-Trip, Fluevog; last worn here in March with some reader-requested pattern mixing

I have Reader Leanne in Australia to thank for the suggestion of wearing this new-to-me modern dress with these funky Fluevog boots.
Leanne, great suggestion - they go so well! A round of applause for you!

I removed the three gold initial buttons from the black neck accents, and added a bunch of brass Brutalist jewelry pieces.
My colleague Keith, who has famously not registered a single outfit I've worn to work in the 12.5 years I've worked with him, said, "Nice outfit!"

I've named it my "Number One" dress because I'm a Star Trek fan - my favourite series are Next Generation, and current shows "Lower Decks" and "Strange New Worlds."
One of my favourite characters is Una or "Number One" (second in command) on SNW - a cool article here (link 'cause I love) about how the actress Rebecca Romijn wanted to have a dress as a wardrobe option on the show. She's a badass but is still feminine, plus she's 50, what a role model!

Incognito.
I was super-tempted to wear my communicator badge...maybe next time!

The stuff:
These boots always get a lot of "WHOA"s on their own. So comfy and soft.

Brutalist bling:
Although neither my dress nor my boots are from the groovy mod era, my jewelry is!

  • Brass/glass necklace and ring - Rafael, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage mall

  2. I haven’t seen a Star Trek episode or movie since the early Jean-Luc Picard days but nonetheless the dress evokes everything that makes the Star Trek look iconic and so perfect with those boots! Is Keith a Trekkie?

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Keith is not a Trekkie, but knows enough that it caught his eye, Laurie. Such a good match with the boots, right??

  4. Leanne's suggestion was spot on! This outfit must be one of my favourites of yours, ever!
I'm definitely getting Star Trek vibes, but then again it also reminds me of 1960s outfit for Francie, Barbie's MODern cousin - no caps lock error, this was how she was marketed!
Her boots, however, do pale in comparison to yours! xxx

    1. It was - I might have figured this out on my own, but I love that she knows my wardrobe better than me, ha ha! Yes, I loved Francie - it's definitely MODern! These boots are so fabulous, I concur.

  6. I love the sixties vibes. The dress and the boots are a match made in heaven.
The Star Trek vibes are there and I'm all for it.
I'm looking forward to seeing you styling this dress again.
Maybe you can wear it with same boots but add tights once it gets colder.

  8. My first thought on seeing the pic and not the text was Star trek! I love it! Oh please do wear the communicator badge! I do remember in the 1990's, there was a cool shop in Ilford called Jeffery Rogers and I saw in Mizz magazine that they had created a Star trek dress. Oh, how I wish I had bought it at the time! So cool! The boots were an INSPIRED companion!x
