Two-Fer Catch-Up: Monday Cobalt and Digital Irises, and Tuesday Thrifted Marni and Houndstooth

Vacation? What vacation? We're back to outfits, gentle readers, after that bigass weekend (here, if you missed it).

So here's a Two-Fer for y'all, as in "two for the price of one." Monday's outfit was all about Colour As Armour.
I didn't actually wear the cobalt blue silk jacket all day - it was outerwear - but I couldn't resist a stair pose with all this glorious colour.

  • Dress - Tahari, consignment; last seen here in October 2022 with green shoes
  • Cobalt blazer - no label, thrifted; last worn here in June with chevrons
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July with blue and orange

Do I look tired here? I was tired.
Must distract my coworkers with this amazingly cool dress. The print is very fine stripes in the background, with digitally-manipulated irises on the rest.

I had to dash out during the day to run some errands, and a lovely gent at a crosswalk complimented me.
"What a great dress!" Why thank you, kind person.

I love the pops of neon yellow around the zipper and in the kick-pleats.
There are also "racing stripes" down the sides, which you can see in some of the pics.

But that blue! Cobalt is such a rich colour.
I'm doing well with this blazer - I've had it just over a year and have worn it 3 times. Not bad for $14.95.

Incognito.
Of course it's not me, don't be silly.

The stuff:
Pile on all the orange, including these shoes, just to match the orange piping at the neck of the dress.

Orange-y bling:
My vintage Yves Saint Laurent scarf was made for this outfit!

  • Silk scarf - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Wooden earrings - vintage expo
  • Orange bangle - consignment, Sidney
  • Plastic cuff/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Lucite/steel ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted

I crashed after dinner, exhausted.

Tuesday/today was a busier day in the office, but I felt back to my old self.
I played around in my closet and built an outfit around this new-to-me thrifted Marni top.

  • Sweater - Marni, thrifted; purchased here in Vancouver for $35.00
  • Skirt - Talbots, consignment; last seen here with pops of orange in June 2022 (I let go of that top)
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in July with graphic mesh and leopard

My colleague Jessica admired the contrasting pattern on the sleeves.
I rolled them once to bring the cuff up to a better point on my arm.

I realized when I had the top on, that it's one continuous knit, with the only seams at the shoulders and sleeves.
There are no side seams - that's a quality mark of a custom knit vs. "cut and sew" which is how many modern knits are assembled.

So that buttoned split at the bottom is also custom knit into this top. Amazing.
The skirt is me still working on achieving Peak Houndstooth skirt. I like it, but I don't love it.

Incognito.
I tied the ends of my scarf together to connect them into sleeves for sun coverage.

The stuff:
These shoes are a favourite summer pair - I can wear them barefoot.

Bold bling:
The pattern on the top's sleeves has a bit of mossy green - I really liked the green bracelet with it.

  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Silver/Lucite bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Metal/green stone bracelet - vintage 1930s, vintage mall
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Silver/stone poison ring - Mexican, Karen's
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neumann, Sweden, vintage mall

And now I'm all caught up! Phew!

  1. That dress with the cobalt blue blazer is indeed stunning. I love stripes and floral print together. But i think that any print goes well with stripes.

  2. Cobalt blue - you and I have each sworn our devotion to that luscious color! I like how the colors of the dress, which are already vibrant, seem to pop even more against the blazer. And of course, I am a fan of ALL this outfit's accessories. My eyes have always been drawn to shoes, jewelry (especially earrings) and bags.

Tickled (but not surprised ;-)) to see the wearing of your Vancouver weekend sweater purchase. The sleeve pattern and the back flourishes give the sweater pizazz. The top reminded me of another recent top you purchased with the white lace insets and the red & white stripes. Both tops elevate the "t shirt" style.

Thanks for the "two-fer" - enjoyable and uplifting to appreciate your outfits and vicariously tag along on excursions with your Mom, hubby or friends.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. It is easily my favourite shade of blue, Laurie. Aw, thank you so much - I felt awesome in all this colour.

Yes, I was excited to wear this top, and it was a quick and easy styling choice. Agreed, very similar to the vibe of the striped/lace top - another good quality piece. I put a plain orange thin sweater in the giveaway as this sweater is a definite upgrade.

Glad you are enjoying my posts, dear friend. Give my best to Fred and Robin, and big hugs to you, Laurie!

  4. Hearing you on having to wear Colour as Armour after such a full-on weekend of fun! I would have needed an extra day! The Digital Iris dress is a stunner, as is that cobalt blue jacket, and I LOVE how you picked up the orange piping at the neck of the dress with your shoes and bling!
I wasn't sure about the Marni top, but it looks fantastic on, and the pattern mixing of the sleeves, shoes and houndstooth skirt is just perfect! And yay for shoes one can wear barefoot! xxx

    1. Oh, gosh, I so needed the extra day off, but no rest for the wicked, right, Ann? Next time! I think I've done orange accessories with this dress before, but I love how nicely it contrasts.

I really liked the Marni top - their clothes don't always appeal to me - and the quality was superb.

  6. I remember that dress. It has such a pretty and distinct pattern. It looks great worn with a blue blazer. The second styling is very chic too. I like the top with the contrasting sleeves. How would you describe the shade? It looks red on the first (stairway picture) but orange on the indoor photos. Is it orange red or something like that? The skirt is lovely, and such a nice match with the shoes too.

    1. It's a very distinctive dress - I don't know how long I will keep it, but I'm not tired of it yet! The top is coral - very much a red-orange shade. Thanks, Ivana!

  7. The dress is indeed great. It looks very expensive and very good on you. The black and white outfit with the coral is also really good.
