Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Funky Friday Paisley and Bold Gold; Vintage Cheese Curls and a 5-Minute Shop; Cat Pics

Welcome back, my friends! Did you have a good weekend? We had a nice relaxing few days. Let me tell you all about it!

Here's Friday's funky ensemble - wearing some things I haven't featured yet this season.
This is entirely shopped from my closet - nothing new.

  • Silk blouse - INC, thrifted; last worn here in June 2022 with vintage Versace
  • Leather skirt - Danier Leather, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in February for a visit with Mom
  • Shoes - Arnold Churgin, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in May with picnic plaid

This lovely silk paisley blouse has been with me since 2016.
It's a classic mid-90s look, post-shoulder-pad era.

Look how the pattern is mirrored - such quality!
They don't make them like this anymore.

I'm still a bit iffy on the skirt - I love the colour, but it marks if you even look at it.
I love the long pencil skirt style, though - I did this look back in 1987-ish, which is how old this piece is.

Incognito.
It's me!

The stuff:
My Barbie shoes! I haven't been able to wear them for a long time due to Toe - I was so happy to wear them for a quiet day in the office. I adore this shape of shoe and the short heel. They are really comfy...when I'm not having foot issues!

Bold gold bling:
Check out that groovy gold belt - classic 70s, can you dig it?

  • Belt - vintage 70s, consignment
  • Chain necklace - Monet, thrifted
  • Earrings - Biko, consignment
  • Brutalist ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's

L and I spent our Friday night chilling out and listening to music and playing board games till the wee hours, and were up on Saturday morning for our usual brunch. Nick was off in the US for a concert, so longtime friend Andrew joined us at John's Place.

Vizzini, we're headed out - you good?
"Busy sleeping, go away,  Woman."

Oh, come on, not even a nose boop?
"Maybe later."

He was still sleeping on his post, a light breeze wafting over him, when we got home.

Brunch and grocery-shopping outfit. I dyed my hair in the morning - I'm freshly purpled.
Yeah, I couldn't wait to wear my Cheese Curls dress.

  • Dress - vintage 70s, consignment; purchased here for $65.00 (I forgot to note the price when I bought it)
  • Blouse - Sam & Zoe, thrifted; last seen here in June with white jeans
  • Sandals - Chie Mihara; last worn here in July with Dries and blinged-out denim

I layered this neon orange silk blouse over top of it for sun coverage. More frommage!
Gads, I love that bold print!

The orange matches the blouse perfectly.
I immediately felt warm due to the double-knit polyester. Bare legs was called for!

Without the blouse, as I know y'all want to see it.
I need to take the straps up slightly so that they cover my bra straps better.

But this was fine for today.
There's a back zip and a hook-and-eye at the top.

Incognito:
While we waited in line at John's Place (you know it's good when there's a line!), I popped into the Beacon Avenue Thrift Shop next door for a 5-minute shop.

Movie Star Wrap!
For tootling around in Vlad the Jaguar convertible. Drive me home, L!

Accoutrements:
I liked how nicely the scarf worked with the ensemble. I tied it to my purse when not wearing it.

  • Purse - Roots 73, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Lanvin, vintage 70s, consignment

The stuff:
The perfect platforms.

Bold bling:
Some favourites.

  • Black and white hexagonal cuff - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Black and white bangles - vintage, consignment
  • Earrings - West German, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Silver/amber ring - consignment
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Sweden, vintage mall

Beacon Ave Thrift is a true thrift store - it's very hit-or-miss, but I've found some amazing things there.

I spotted this amber drop on a white metal chain in the display case. I have smaller and more delicate silver chains that the drop will work on, but the bigger chain will be useful for some of my other pendants. It was $10.00.
The high-density plastic (possibly Bakelite?) bangle is marked there at $5.00 but it also had a 75 cent tag on it, and that's what they charged me. For 75 cents, I'll take it! It's nice and small for my tiny wrists, and is a fabulous colour.

I took a chance on this tunic because I liked the pattern and colours.
So groovy!

But it didn't work on me, so into the giveaway it goes.
Ah, well, it was only $10.00 (there's a tiny separation on one seam, easily fixed - "as is"). I actually gave it to Cat when she and Ross came over in the evening - it looks fab on her!

I rooted around in the $1.00 tie bin to see if there was anything good, and lo and behold, I found a lovely slim-line tie.
It's Italian-made silk, with red/orange, navy blue, grey on a brownish-grey background. L loved it.

I like the detailed floral pattern, and the jacquard-woven silk it's printed on.
I spy a name on there - that's a custom pattern for "Leonard", a brand of ties I recognize.

I've found Leonard ties for L before - they are $220.00 Canadian new (link here 'cause I love).
It is always jolting for me when I buy L a tie second-hand at "full" price (like the $60-dollar one I just bought at House of Savoy), but it always balances out when I only spend a dollar for equally nice ones.

Cat, Ross, L and I played Arkham Horror and laughed and partied till the wee hours.

Sunday's a day for quiet - a bit of reading, some board games with L (football season is starting soon, and that ends Sunday gaming for us), and of course...
"Tummy rubs!"

Vizzini loves having his tum scritched. Smile for the camera, bud!
"You're posting these??"

Gotta please your fans, little guy.

And with that, Gentle Readers, I'm going to go enjoy this roasting hot afternoon. Be chill, be well, and be groovy! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Hi Sheila, am still popping by for quick blog visits occasionally - the summer has been a bit nuts, but I enjoy seeing your outfits, and Vizzini updates. That maxi dress really is a stunner, but I can imagine the fabric is not great for the warm temperatures we've been having.

    1. So good to see you, Shelley! I totally get that (I'm massively behind in my comments). I don't mind the double-knit polyester as long as it has lots of room in it!

  2. Your dress reminds me of a jumpsuit, my brain kept wanting the skirt portion to be palazzo pants! Nonetheless, a super outfit; it could pass as a summer jammy dress.

The tie and blue bracelet caught me eye, as well as the red patterned tunic. I was hoping for a picture of it on Cat!

And then there’s Vizzini…handsomely soaking up sun, warmth and tummy rubs. ❤️
    Here’s to a wonderful week!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I know, when I saw the pics, I thought, "This would have made a great jumpsuit!" It's great for this weather, for sure.

Sorry, no pics on Cat (my friends tolerate my group pics, not so much the "let's try this on" pics!). Isn't my kitty a pretty boy? Happy week to you and Fred!

  3. You are taking me back with the pencil shape skirt and those shoes were the exact type of shoe I would wear with them back in the day! I too loved them. Great outfit and oh goodness is that vintage 70s dress looking good on you! the top for sensible sun coverage is a match made in heaven. All your accessories go perfectly. Loving your thrift finds too. Thanks for the bright spot in the day Shazx

    1. Right, Shaz! I'm totally feeling that late 80s vibe here, aren't I? Aw, thank you so much - I love the 70s nearly as much as I love the 80s! Sending you some sunshine, honey!

  4. Oh yes, I recognized that early 90's style, and agree with you that a fab pencil skirt rocks!. That blue one is really lovely and your Barbie shoes are such a classic!
Love the 'cheese curls' dress (I see chocolate curls! ;DD) and the cute orange shirt which adds another layer and a vivid colour. I could burn in flames if I wear polyester (or sleeves) in our damn hot weather, but I miss my layers!
And I love your bold jewellery, totally my kind of thing!
Sending some (virtual) tummy rubs to Vizzini!
    besos

    1. Thank you, Monica! It's funny what everyone sees in that dress' pattern! Ha, I'm picturing you erupting into flames in a polyester dress, ha ha! Thank you - Vizz is happy for the tummy rubs!

  6. I love that 1970s maxi, definitely pencil sharpenings in my eyes. The orange shirt is a fabulous addition.
Vizzini makes me smile. Lots of love to him (and you!) xxx

  7. Shame about the iffy skirt, but Friday's outfit is a stunner otherwise. That blouse looks like quality indeed and your Barbie shoes are a perfect match!
My favourite, though, is the cheese curls (although I still think they're wood shavings) dress.
It seems like you didn't do bad at all at the thrift store. Bar the groovy tunic, obviously, but I'm glad it has already gone to a good home. We've got quite a few hit-or-miss charity shops here, but they're always worth checking out once in while. Not sure the bracelet could be Bakelite, but at 75 cents I'd have picked it up too! xxx

    1. I'm hanging onto it for now, Ann - it's such a glorious colour. This blouse keeps on making the cut, year after year.

Wood shavings for you - noted! ha! I did pretty good for a quick 5-minute rushed look, didn't I? I agree, the bracelet is probably 1970s plastic, but still...75 cents is a deal.

  8. Such a beautiful blouse in the first outfit photo; I think the skirt length isn't right for you. I adored your 1970s maxi with the cheese curls prints and how brilliantly matched with the exact shade of orange blouse! Such a shame about the tunic; I loved it. Well done on finding the fabulous tie for L and the pendant and bangle were great finds, too. I found myself a Lanvin scarf in the animal charity shop in Donegal for 2 euros whilst I was away!

Give Vizzini a tummy rub from me...

    1. Welcome back, Vronni, and Vizzini is going to be spoiled from all these tummy rubs!

Thank you! Yes, I agree, it's overly long so throws my proportions off. WOW, Lanvin for 2 Euros is a STEAL - nicely done!

  9. That dress looks beautiful on you. I knew it would of course. But I love that dress a lot. We don't have cues here to enter a restaurant. Which probably say something about the quality of our restaurants....

    1. Thanks so much, Nancy! I love these old vintage dresses so much. Most of the brunch places here don't take reservations, so queue we must!

  10. I envy your "tiny wrists" -- I can't get most bangles over my large hands.

    1. The grass is always greener - there are very few small bracelets, and it seems like all I find just fly off my arms.
