Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Fancy Friday in Frills; Jungle, Polka Dots and Regret-Me-Not Sandals; Cat Pictures

Welcome back, my friends! It's been a lovely long break, but now back to business. We have outfits to look at!

My Fancy Friday outfit was based around my shoes, since I had a haircut after work.
I walked there, then walked home - I probably walked for more than an hour, including to work in the morning.

  • Wrap cardigan - Wolford, thrifted; last seen here in May 2021 with a vintage green skirt
  • Skirt - Faithfull the Brand, consignment; last worn here in September 2021 for a Mom-Day Adventure
  • Boots - Official Sabado, Fluevog; last seen here in early May for Caro's surprise birthday
  • Jacket (below) - Smoking Lily; last worn here in August 2021 for another Mom-Day Adventure

Besides showing off the boots nicely, this skirt is such a pretty colour.
Many of the people I saw today enjoyed its rich mustard-y yellow.

The top is a plain black camisole (not tracked), plus my cotton/silk Wolford wrap-around ballet cardigan.
Black bookends!

I spilled coffee down the front of the skirt while I was unclogging the coffee machine in the lunchroom, so in the wash the skirt goes.
The boots performed admirably, as I knew they would.

Masked up.
Much matchy!

Outerwear - it was much nicer on Friday, with blue skies and little puffy clouds.
This jacket is a thin stretch denim that's been brushed with silver to make it shiny.

When I pulled out the new scarf to go with the jacket, I remembered that the cuffs flip back to expose fabric with a touch of baby blue.
The last time I wore this jacket with the cuffs flipped back was way back in September 2018 (here).

Accoutrements:
Kudos to Unknown reader, who noted that the swirly bits and colours in this scarf are very similar to our rugs. Yup, I'm a maximalist in my taste - bring on all the gewgaws!

  • Scarf - Echo, thrifted; purchased here yesterday for $9.95
  • Leather gloves - vintage, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The design on the gloves is actually piercing in the leather - the gloves are unlined. Even my mask has fancy details.

The stuff:
Great glorious boots! If this nice weather continues, they'll be too hot to wear.

Bold bling:
The matchy necklace and earrings are looking at you...

  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Necklace - Monet, vintage, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage, vintage fair (bought at the same time as the necklace)
  • Leafy bracelet - thrifted, Sidney

Vizzini was happy to have us home.
"Feed me, or the boots get it."

He was so happy to have us home for most of the weekend, although with the sunny(!!) weather, he's been eschewing our laps for the warm deck.
"That's right, this chair is my new you."

On Saturday, L and I joined our friends for the first game of Ultimate Frisbee of the season - it was so good to run around on a grassy field under clear blue skies, full of the sheer joy of just being able to play.
"Sounds horrifying."

After Ulti, we strolled down to the Fernwood Inn for brunch, followed by much napping and lolling about (most cat-like) until the evening, when L and I spent many hours playing boardgames and listening to music.

On Sunday, we spent a lazy morning having breakfast and planning for our late afternoon outing to Chris and Ali's for a long weekend barbecue with our friends, the Family We Choose.
"Better make sure your toes are ready for this, Woman."

Aw, look at that pink tongue! Good reminder, Vizzini! I painted my toenails for the first time in many months for the regret-me-not wearing of my black sandals.
I'm also getting in the inaugural outfit with these new white jeans.

  • Blazer - Zara, consignment; last worn here in June 2021 with bronze and baby blue
  • Silk blouse - Gino Collection, vintage 80s, thrifted; first seen here in May 2021 with a patchwork skirt
  • Jeans - Cambio; purchased here for $4.99
  • Sandals - Dr. Scholls, consignment; rescued from the giveaway pile here; last seen here in July 2019
  • Sweetums cape (below) - vintage 70s, consignment; first worn here in April

Chris and Ali's back patio is somewhat sheltered and while we didn't have full blue skies on Sunday, it was still bright and warm.
Layers are key.

Will I be warm enough later?
Their back area is in the shade in the afternoon.

The polka dot blouse is silk, and the jungle-print blazer is lined. I love this pattern mix.
The jeans are thin (but I love them, super comfy). I managed to avoid spilling anything on them (a minor miracle), and forewent the orange-dust-coated snacks, which were very tempting but bad for white clothing.

Without the jacket - check out those shoulderpads!
If it were warmer, I would have worn just this. I didn't take the blazer off all afternoon/evening, but I did show the shoulderpads.

I had to cinch the belt tight as the pants are very loose in the waist.
Once the belt is undone, I can pull them off without undoing them.

Masked up for the cab.
You never know. Safety first, kids!

I added my pink and yellow silk skull scarf for neck warmth.
Time to break out my sweet little round purse.

I wasn't taking any chances on the weather. Sweetums the Cape, plus gloves, for later in the evening. Sweetums makes a good blanket!
I was snug and warm in this, and it protected me from the mosquitoes as well. I amused the crowd by passing my drink inside the cape to the other hand. Magic!

Accoutrements:
I love pops of pink.

  • Purse - Street Level, thrifted
  • Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
A silver lining of the pandemic: my feet have substantially repaired themselves from all the standing and running around I used to do in heels in the Before Times - even my bunion has almost disappeared! These were excellent, and I'm glad I took them back into my closet - they are a true regret-me-not.

Colourful bling:
The bug brooches were hidden in the jungle print of my blazer.

  • Bracelet/earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Bronze/jeweled cuff - Mika, consignment
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Pink/green/gold ring - Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Butterfly brooch - vintage fair
  • Bee brooch - gift from Megan Mae

L dressed up as well. Too bad he shut his eyes - anticipating a calm evening surrounded by our favourite people, no doubt.
He's in a straw hat, a vintage blazer, a Boston Bruins tee and Boston Hawaiian shirt, and daisy-printed Fluevog boots. Snazzy!

We hung out from 3pm until nearly 10pm - the sun had gone down, and the time had flown by. L and I cabbed home and enjoyed a quiet late evening of a few more boardgames and the company of Vizzini.
"Make way, I'm comin' in for some lovin'."

Aw, these two are so fond of each other.
"I love the Man."

I love Vizzini's little white blaze on his chest.

Now he becomes intrusive and all needy for attention.
"We all know who's important here."

Sometimes he settles down on L's knees and paws at our games. Other times he writhes around until he gets bitey. This time, he realized I was taking pictures.
"The paparazzi has spotted me. Hello to all my fans."

And now, off to enjoy our final day of this now-cloudy long weekend. I hope you're all having a good start to your week! Thank you so much for visiting!

  2. Glad you had a relaxing weekend and got back to Ulti. I loved the mustard skirt and the unusual denim silver coated jacket with it but the white jeans outfit was my favourite. Loved the pink spots and jungle print blazer together. I think Vix has a similar bag to your round one - you both have great taste. Congratulations for making it through the evening with your jeans still white - that's an achievement! L looked very cool and of course Vizzini was the coolest of the lot and he knows it....

  4. I really like the first outfit - especially with all the layers, you picked such beautiful pieces that work so well together and that skirt is just gorgeous.
Your weekend style is amazing too with the fun print mix and all the pink! Glad you had a nice weekend :)

  5. Love the cheery pink polkadots and blazer. It’s nice we are finally getting some warm weather. I adore white jeans and have a couple of pairs, but there is always the danger element of something being spilled on them every time I wear them. My little floofy dog gets bitey like Vizinni and then she gets banished to the floor. I have now decided to keep an eye out for a cape, I have several large shawls I use in the in-between weather, but think a button cape would be perfect. Loved your first outfit and your boots are so badass!

  6. Two fabulous outfits, Sheila! That mustard skirt is so uplifting and it looks absolutely perfect bookended in black. I do hope the coffee you spilled on it didn't do any lasting damage. Coffee stains can be nasty!
Well done on not spilling anything on those white jeans, though. Wearing white is a definite danger zone to me, and white trousers or a white skirt would probably be stainless for all of five minutes :-) But how amazing you look in those jeans! The pattern mixing of the polka dot blouse and jungle print blazer is fantastic too.
Love those photos of your two guys! xxx

  7. Vronni's right, we are bag twins - I wore mine around Greece last week!
Two fab outfits, love the mustard skirt, it's perfect with those amazing boots and that photo of you and L in all your killer colour is fantastic. Look at Vizzini lapping up all that fuss from his Dad, he's just the cutest! xxx

  8. Ditto Polyester Princess - two fabulous outfits! I love your evening outfit - it is says Springing into Summer!

Oof, I hear your (occasional) pain regarding spills on clothes…I used to blame food on my clothes on parenting young children. That excuse didn't fly when it still occurred 20 years later. ;-)

Yay for finally getting the thrill of team movement for Ulti, for spiffing up with L for your night with friends, for Vizinni contentedly preening for the camera, and just overall good vibes!

    1. PS Of course those black boots are comfy and awesome…they are the siblings of your awesome blue boots! (from Laurie)

  9. I love how you two love your cat. My twin sister, could not have kids. I got all her eggs! A common phenomena in identical twin girls. One set in 4 one twin will get all the eggs on splitting. So I got all the children and she got all the bills. Like braces, trips to Europe, school clothes, expensive gifts for high school and college, and graduate school. I got to raise the little buggers. My sissie and her husband have cats and they are so funny. Love all the outfits by the way.

  10. What a fabulous weekend you had! Spending time with friends is so good!! I only wished that Gerben liked to play boardgames with me. That cape is ideal for evenings like that. Snug, warm, and stylish! Can it get any better.

  11. lovely outfit with the black boots. I can believe they are comfortable. Your outfit with the white trousers and black sandals (and pink nail varnish) is even better (IMHO). Together with L you two are a colourful pair. People will turn their heads.
I am with Vizzini... running around, sounds horrifying.

  12. Those kitty cuddles photos are endlessly darling!

Awesome outfits both. The first one made my heart skip ample beats, as it is SO my style.

Isn't it a delightful marker of spring/summer's return when we paint our toenails again for the first time in many months (no doubt some people keep the act up all year round, but I rarely see the point when my feet are enrobed in thermal socks and arctic grade snow boots 😄).
