Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Dubious Pants; Burgundy and Brown; Luxury Fluevogs; October Shopping

I've had a lovely relaxing weekend, and hope you all are too! The couch is calling, so let's dig into my weekend, starting with Friday's kooky outfit.

Every so often I buy something that requires trying it on with a bunch of things to figure out what the heck to wear with it.
These black cotton pants are a challenge, but I rose to it.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. Go, go, go!

  • Blouse - Sanctuary, thrifted; last seen here in June with pink leather
  • Pants - See By Chloe, thrifted; purchased here for $24.99
  • Shoes - Truths Pilgrim, Fluevog; last worn here with jammy and houndstooth in September
  • Leather coat (below) - Danier Leather; last seen here last week

I'd originally intended to wear a blouse tucked into the waistband, but it didn't look right when I tried it on the night before, so I kept trying. A boxy or cropped top seemed to work the best shape-wise.
I rolled the pant-legs to deliberately create a cropped look for the shoes. They are long enough to wear unrolled.

I had doubts when I saw this picture.
Zoiks. Some poses do not work with certain clothes!

These pants have amazing thigh-widening properties.
I think you could probably stuff in about 3 bags of marshmallows per leg.

A little better.
These are not the most flattering pants I own, but I'm kind of feeling this weird leg shape, you know?

Yes, yes, I'm definitely on board for whackadoodle pants. Tee hee!
I had fun showing them off to my coworkers, and salespeople when I shopped after work. They had many admirers. However, they are loose cotton, and they're going into the spring summer pile for next year, where I'll be happy and surprised to see them again.

Outerwear - chilly in the mornings and chilly in the evenings.
I was glad I had this coat by the time I walked home.

The stuff:
These shoes keep getting better and better. I love this heel.

Leather bling:
 I love my leather cuffs.

  • Red cuff - Rimanchik
  • Black cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver

I had a browse through the WIN store and the Patch after work on Friday, but nothing was really grabbing me. All the new fall stock is in, though.
I finally found this lovely deep forest green pencil skirt.

Trust me, it's deep forest green. It's a tricky colour to photograph.
This one is early Pink Tartan - I can tell it's early because it's made in Canada (they currently manufacture in China). The brand started in 2002, so this is probably within 2-3 years of that.

It was $16.95.
They have a green skirt on their site for $265.00, so yay! Score!

On Saturday, L and I were up early for brunch, followed by the official Spending of the Birthday Fluevog Gift Cards shop! Very exciting.
My outfit is built around the shoes and tights.

  • Velvet blazer - Vero Moda, thrifted; last worn here in August with the jelly-deer
  • Sweater - consignment; purchased for $10, first wear
  • Skirt - Kay Unger, thrifted; last worn here in November 2017 with these same boots
  • Boots - Babycakes Minis, Fluevog; last seen here in February with velvet and paisley (love that outfit)

If I'm going to the Fluevog store, I have to wear Fluevogs, and I have to be able to walk to town and back in them.
These tights were next in my ongoing "wear all the tights" mission. I love the rubberized gold design on them.

The skirt is metallic brown leather, and it's butter-soft. Don't you love the little ruffle around the bottom hem?
It was a gorgeous day out - I didn't need any outerwear at all. I love this loose, drapey velvet jacket. Perfect for jamming one's hands in to one's pockets.

The cream sweater is getting its first wear - I won't be tracking it, as it's label-less and just a plain sweater.
With all this other stuff going on, plain neutral tops are very versatile wardrobe pieces for me.

The stuff:
Such fabulous boots, and yes, I can really walk to town and back in them! I did!

Brassy bling:
I tried a couple of necklaces then remembered my homegrown vintage leopard scarf. Perfect!

  • Scarf - Fairweather, c. 1999
  • Cuffs - Jezebel Charms, gifts from L
  • Earrings - thrifted

So! What did I find at Fluevog?
The one on the left says "Luxury" and the one on the right says, "Freeze"

Sweet, sweet, crazy shoes!

I tried on about 8 pairs of shoes - I always try on tons at Fluevog, and I never buy the ones I think I'm going to! Their shoes are not like other shoes...they really have to be tried on, if you can.

If you're curious, here are links to all the ones I can find/remember trying (linking 'cause I love, of course - although I'm a good customer, I don't get anything from Fluevog aside from great customer service).

  • These gorgeous green and blue boots here - they were wide in the calf and quite high
  • These fabulous striped "Beetlejuice" booties here - these were L's favourite, but I didn't love them as much
  • These gold and black booties here - again, L loved them, but they were too much for me
  • These beautiful blue ankle boots here - I will watch for these to go on sale
  • These elaborate but gorgeous boots here - amazing, but too limiting for me (also very high)
  • These pretty polka-dotted shoes here - until I remembered I already have a shoe with that purple leather (these ones) and I also have at least 3 pairs of polka-dot shoes
  • These crazy shoes that I bought, the Lena Parfait Luxury Freeze - in berry, here

After trying all those shoes and boots on, I circled back to these goofy things. Although I liked a lot of the shoes I tried, none of them really made my heart sing. And then I put these on! I was grinning like an idiot as I pranced around the store - they're squishy and comfy and make my legs look a hundred miles long.

"These fill my heart with joy!" I exclaimed to the salesperson, to her bemusement. "I am filled with glee!" And that, my friends, is how you know you have the right shoes. Try them all and see what makes your heart sing.
The black front is a thick neoprene-like sock. The burgundy/cherry red is a patent suede (softer than patent leather).

Tabs to pull them on - I have skinny feet and ankles, and they are tight to get on and off.
Look at those fun heels! The soles are rubber.

This pair is called the Lena Parfait Luxury Freeze, and they were $445 less $320 in gift cards - thank you to L for topping up the rest.
It says, "Cool on a hot date" on the sole. And yes, that's an ice cream cone - the Luxury Freeze was an ice cream drive-in that John Fluevog's father owned way back in the day.

The heels remind me of a jar of maraschino cherries.
I didn't think I would like that bright pink sole, but I do! They only have these in blue on their site, so maybe the pink is a limited run. I already have an outfit picked out, so you'll be seeing these soon!

L bought himself these spectacular Toledo Gateways (link) in white and orange.
These will go with a lot in his wardrobe - he swapped in the alternate orange laces right away.
 Love all that detail!

Today, I walked to town to do my grocery shop (hurray for delivery!).
I'd seen signs for a garage sale featuring vintage clothing in my neighbourhood, so I checked it out afterward.

  • Dress - Joe Fresh, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) to see a movie with Elaine
  • Shoes - Star Wars by Irregular Choice; last seen here (4th outfit) for a shopping day in August
  • Coat - Danier Leather, consignment; last worn here in April

Another nice sunny day.
I also planned to check out the WIN Boutique on my way, so I wore clothes I could change out of easily.

I'm done with this dress. It's crappy quality.
I did pretty well on my cost-per-wear. I bought it here for $17.99 and I wore it seven times, so that's just over $2 a wear.

Outerwear - how most people saw me.
It's October, so time to break out my seasonal clothing.

  • Skull scarf - MetroWear, San Francisco, 2007
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

All buttoned up.
I love the cut and fit of this glorious orange leather jacket.

The stuff:
More walking shoes! I got a few comments on these as I strolled around.

Yoda and Luke!
 And simple earrings.

  • White gold earrings - Frances Jewelers, 10th anniversary gift from L

The garage sale was fantastic! It's run by a lovely lady named Suzy, who - like me - has been vintage and thrift shopping for years, and every so often she puts all her stuff out for sale. I marveled at the selection - she has a great eye - it was like shopping in my own closet!

I had to restrain myself, but I did find some great pieces, starting with this snake-print silk dress.
It's a lovely light silk (the bottom half is lined), with pockets. It's quite short, so good for summer, or over leggings or a skinny jean.

It's by T. Babaton. As always I pay little attention to the sizes, and just buy what fits.
It was $30.00. This brand is sold at Aritzia, and this dress is called the Bennett, and it retails at $165.

I also found these spectacular black denim printed jeans.
That is a wonderful wallpaper-like print in gold. I'm so in love.

They are by Seven7.
I actually used to own a pair of jeans by this brand (here's a flashback from 2009 when I got them in a swap from my sweets Caro).
These were $12.00. My interwebz research tells me they retailed for around $100 new.

I'm super-excited to try these!
I have always wanted jeans like this.

I also fell hard for this awesome skirt.
Very Hallowe'en-y! It's a shmozzle of threads felted together onto a wool backing.

Edged with bigass gems, because every skirt needs that.
I like the rough texture of it.

Even the pockets - yes, pockets! - have gem trim.
Super-klassy! This was $12.00 as well

The brand is Kateri, but I couldn't find anything about them online.
However, this wasn't cheap - the lining has the same K shape in their logo as on the tag. Little details...

Happy with my discoveries, I walked to the WIN Boutique. I found more useful tops, including this brushed gold metallic one.
 It's an easy care piece - machine-wash, tumble-dry.

By Calvin Klein, and was $15.95.
I'm not usually a fan of little pre-done jewelry-like pieces on clothing (I'll accessorize it myself, thank you), but I didn't mind this gold piece.

However, I don't like wearing blatant labels, so I'll turn it around.
 Sorry, Calvin.

I really loved the fit of this navy blue sparkly top.
 I already know it's a score - it's Ted Baker!

It's not a size 2, though. That's a Medium in Ted sizing.
Only $16.95? Get out of town. This was probably at least $100 new.

I'm always on the lookout for camis and tanks for wearing under tops and sweaters. I noted the other day that I needed a grey one.
This one has a great cut - it fits nice and snug and the fabric is thick.

It was $5.95 and is by Propaganda.
 Good deal.

I haven't had a denim skirt for a while - I find most of them too boring for my taste.
Nope, that is not boring at all! I love the grommets!

It also has a really high waist, so I'm hoping it won't ride up on me (I also have that issue with denim skirts).
I like that this has quite a bit of length with a back slit for walking. I must be able to stride about!

A few of the grommets are missing, but I don't care.
 Too fun!

The brand is Dare U, and it was $6.95
Again, can't find anything about this brand online, but I like it, and that's what matters!

Vizzini, what do you think of all these purchases?
"I care nothing for your clothing, Woman!"

He is mad at us for bring his post in from the deck. Only a little gap of the deck door is open for him to go out, and we'll have to close that soon too.
"This is completely unacceptable!"

He really seems to think we can control the weather getting colder.
"You must make it warm again!"

I wish I could, bud!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

    1. That dress is right up your alley, Mica! Buying on a whim is more like impulse-buying, I think. But if you love them, then build an outfit around them and wear them!

  6. Saturday's outfit is my favourite. I'm really digging those boots and tights. And I fully approve of your choice: those new Fluevog boots are fabulous! I had a look at all of your links, and I love these ones the most, and I like them even better in pink than in blue! Those wallpaper print trousers from the garage sales are gorgeous, and so is the snake-print dress. Look at Vizzini's disappointed little face. Phoebe's always mad at us when it rains! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! I liked that one too - I'd wear it to work - and it's always fun to do a more dressy outfit on the weekend. I tend to go simpler when I know I'll be shopping.

I'm super-excited to wear my new 'Vogs! and I'm also really looking forward to the new finds.

  8. What wonderful things you found at the vintage sale. I loved them all. Your weekend outfits were lovely; especially the velvet blazer, the fabulous orange leather jacket and those cute black trousers. They reminded me of a Japanese make of trousers beginning with an M that another blogger wears constantly and raves about. Sadly, I can't remember her name or her blog's name...

The new Fluevogs are astonishing; so many quirky details - almost a story in themselves! Loved L's purchase as well.

    Have a fab week.

  9. I'm loving the Japanese vibe of those structural trousers, those amazing tights and that stunner of an orange leather jacket. The pink platformed Fluevogs should be the Eighth Wonder of the World, they're like nothing I've ever seen before.
I bet Vizzini is super impressed with everything you found, our cats have the best taste - they chose us! xxx

  13. The See by Chloe pants are SO COOL - but i do know the feeling of having to try on several items with one garment until you find one that fits just right. I am wondering how these pants would look it you tuck in the top because the pockets are so strategically placed...

    1. I tried tucking a shirt in - it really makes for a long-looking waist, and was odd-looking to me. I might try something like a vest with them, to play with the proportions around the waist. They're really tricky!
