Jul 9th - Outfit #9 - Gold and Dots

Oh, Monday, you are a cruel day. Why must you last so long?

Anyway, I wore dots! And I'm visible for Visible Monday! Go check out the fab participants at Patti's "Not Dead Yet Style"!
This is a Smoking Lily dress that I've had since February 2010. I paid $40.00 in trade-in of my own clothes at Leche's for it. It has no silk-screening on it, but it's handmade. I wonder how many of these they made? I'm guessing not many.

I've also worn it previously here (April 2010), here (August 2010), and here (April 2011, aw, my lovely Inigo). It's a bit tricky to style due to the colours/pattern, so I'm hoping that something more creative will happen during this month!
I'm wearing a cream cami underneath (not part of the capsule), as well as a vintage half-slip. As the dress is a true wraparound, I like a little extra security in the wind! This dress is super comfy to wear and washes beautifully.

This is also the first capsule wear of these woven gold shoes; they were also "bought" here (in Jan 2010) via trade-in of my old clothes, for $32 (of which $30 was trade-in credit and $2.00 was what I paid out of pocket).
Gold! Shiny!
They are the infamous shoes that I mutilated with an Exacto blade on the heels to make them more comfortable. I'm happy to report that a year and a half later, they are nicely broken in - woven leather is nice and stretchy.

They've also been worn here (July 2011, 2nd outfit) and, here (April 2011, with the same dress!), but I know I've worn them much more. It's hard to search on my blog for Aldo as I have a lot of accessories from them.

The bracelet above is vintage, probably 1960s and is one of Mom's that I "liberated" from her jewelry box when I was a teenager. Heh.

Dress (Smoking Lily, consignment), cami (Plum), shoes (Aldo, consignment), cuff (vintage 60s, Mom's), earrings (Erica Weiner).

  1. Gorgeous dress. I've never seen anything like it from Smoking Lily. Love the cicada earrings too.

  2. Hello, fellow liberator :)

I find that most jersey dresses benefit from a good slip. Can't wait to see what else you do with this dress. I think Psyche recently put a wrap dress over a button front blouse, and it looked great.

Today was cruel. I'm glad I'm not the only person that thought it would never end. And rain finally broke the heat. Whew. Because I was about to not be responsible for myself ;p

  3. The dress has an interesting pattern--gold roses to break up the dots. I'll be curious to see the ways you find to style it this month.

  4. Yay! The awesome dot dress! Always fabulous. It really complements your hair. My favorite cuff I wore today was also "liberated" from my Mom.

Also I just realized how big those earrings are! JEEZUS. They're awesome.

(Also btw, I'm mailing you a jacket. I don't know if it will fit, but if it doesn't feel free to donate/consign. It's too big on me, I can't return it, so I'm passing it on)

    1. I know, they're massive, aren't they? But not heavy, or I wouldn't wear 'em.

Aw, thank you, hon! I will let you know when it arrives.

  5. I adore the dress. And the shoes. I have a pair of gold kitten heel shoes and they are comfortable and beautiful. Not as beautiful as YOUR gold pair though!
