Jul 16th - Outfit #18 - The Periodic Table of Backward Awesomeness

Happy Monday! I'm normally all "boo, I hate Mondays" but it was a lovely sunny warm day and I felt good. Must be hormonal.

I have been wanting to try this wardrobe piece of trickery since I read about it in one of Sal's Already Pretty links of the week many months ago - I'm so sorry I don't remember who it was, but I'm spreading her wonderful idea.
Did you figure it out? I'm wearing my Periodic Table of Awesome cardigan...backwards! Muahahah
I last wore this cardigan here, and that's my navy blue swingy skirt again (last worn here). Ever since I did my June neutral capsule, I have been really interested in mixing neutrals. Here, the bits of turquoise help tie the grey and the navy together.

My grey sandals make another appearance (last worn here).
There's a spore on my boob!
I wanted to really make this look like a regular top, so I added this new-to-me thrifted silk scarf (purchased back here for $3.50) to help make the neckline look more deliberate. Belting the cardigan also made the t-shirt material look less casual.

I have a black slip on underneath everything as well, just to make sure it all laid flat and there would be no surprises if a button popped open (it didn't).

Someone had to come and see what I was up to.
NOT looking psychotic, for once
He's becoming a much more lovey boy - we give him lots of attention and affection and he's starting to get used to it. Don't get me wrong; he's still the most difficult cat I've ever owned. But we love him.

*ahem* Yes, the outfit. Right.

Here's the little surprise in the back:
Crow!
That's a bit more ink than I like to show at work, but I figured that clients wouldn't see it, and I was appropriately modest from the front.

I accented the neutrals with turquoise and silver:
I really liked how all of these worked together. I tried to find jewelry shapes and designs that echoed the shapes of the spores that are also screened on the cardi.

I'm participating in Visible Monday over at Patti's "Not Dead Yet Style." Check it out!

Cardigan (Smoking Lily on American Apparel), skirt (Tobias, thrifted), shoes (Qupid), belt (Bianca Nyggard), scarf (thrifted), bracelet (Fossil), silver ring (Nine West), earrings (Lavichy), lapis ring (Wendy Brandes).

  1. What a fabulous idea! A great way to enjoy this print multiple ways. I'm not sure I'd be bold enough to try this, but I love it on other people.

So glad the Viz is getting sweeter. Our boys are so rotten when they're alone or with someone - well, not me. They have zero sense of self-preservation and run headlong into anywhere that will actually fit their head. Curiosity killed the cat indeed! I put their collars on yesterday and Mom has reported back that they've both already slipped them.

    1. I bet you could do it! You're young!

Yes, he's still a little monster, but he has his good moments now.

  2. I LOVE this. The backward sweater is very clever, but all the matchy elements work so well too.

Ooooh, fun sandals too! I did not realize they were ombre from the front. Clever!

    1. Thanks, Lorena. No, I wouldn't wear them together - it wouldn't look right to me. Too much.

  4. I love this idea - the backwards cardigan. It looks so cool from both sides and you made it shine with your silver/teal accents. I've gotta wear something backwards tomorrow, just as a challenge du jour : > Hi Vizzini - keep loving your mom and even better things will come your way!

  6. I really like this cardi worn backwards! I just don't think I have the right pieces. I'll need to think, maybe a jumper worn backwards? I do have a dress I want to wear backwards, just never get round to it.

  8. I love the backwards cardigan. I remember doing that in Grade 7 and liking it.

The scarf and belt really tie this together perfectly and the silver jewellery is perfect with those shoes. Good thing we don't have the same size feet!

  9. I like this backwards! At first I didn't recognize it and I thought, what a cool pullover sweater! Then I remembered when you showed it earlier. I really like how this turned out and I love your back "surprise" :) And I always love your kitty!

  11. There are so many things I love about this outfit. The sweater, worn backwards is even more adorable than worn correctly. I'm not much for letter graphics on clothing....but this one is very, very special. Your accessories tied everything in perfectly. And...the navy swingy skirt...oh my. I want one so badly..but this is not an easy item to find. I find it difficult to find swingy skirts in any color. A great outfit..but then all of yours are.

  12. What is it that makes some cats "difficult"?! All the love in the world and they're still sort of stand-offish and not as appreciative as a normal cat would be of their people. They must still have more of the genes of a wildcat (who is willing to put up with people in order to take advantage of people's giveaways) than a domestic cat (who actually chooses to be with people because s/he likes people). In my experience, it has been the gray & black tabbies who are least tolerant of love - they even LOOK most like wildcats! But to balance out the ones who don't seem to like me all that much (unless I'm giving them treats), I have Allistair, who sat on the coffee table while I was exercising this morning looking at me with his blue eyes and said, "EEP!" and then purred when I picked him up and snuggled him. :)

    1. Christie, I know! I think the issue with Vizzini is that he was born in the wild - it's taking him a lot of time to warm up to us, to snuggling, even to petting. He still flinches if we come at him too quickly. It's been a hard adjustment after Inigo (who was SO affectionate and loving), but Vizzini's his own cat.

He likes to sit on us now, and his purrs (which used to be very whuffly and intermittent) are now solid.

Aw, that's so sweet about Allistair. :)

  15. I remember the same link and thinking it was a brilliant idea. And you are demonstrating that it is. The turquoise accents give the ensemble a spark of color.

  16. I think your ink looks like the perfect accessory for that party in th' back! I'm also fascinated by the clasp on that gorgeous skinny belt.

Plus, that cat looks good, and he knows it :P
