Orange Suede and Teal

I met up with Tierre (the lovely hat-making lady) today after work to discuss style and of course hats! I am having a custom hat made for a wedding later this month. I have no idea what it will look like, because as I learned from my tattoo artist, an artist needs a little room to do his or her thing. I gave Tierre lots of ideas of what I like, what my style is and how I plan to wear the hat. I am so excited to see what she comes up with!

Anyway, know I'd be seeing her and that she'd only ever met me in full-on whackitude mode, I thought I'd dress in more of a "Sheila style":The orange suede skirt is new-to-me, purchased at the thrift boutique on the weekend. I am really becoming a suede and leather junkie these days! I fell in love with the vibrant colour (I mean, how often do you see orange suede?), so echoed it by wearing my pumpkin tights again.

I love this jacket so much.
I'm wearing a cami and a brown satin blouse underneath it, but I kept the jacket done up all day.

The stuff:
These shoes are getting pretty thrashed - they're cheap quality, not leather and I wear them pretty frequently. They are start to crack a bit inside and the colour is flaking off a bit. Ah well. A few more wears then they can go.

Oh, and I paid $24.50 for the skirt:
I'm not familiar with the brand at all (Co & Eddy - anyone?), but it seems to be nice quality, all lined.

Jacket (Le Chateau, consignment), blouse (Mexx), cami/earrings (Plum), skirt (Co & Eddy, thrifted), tights (Esprit), shoes (Le Chateau, consignment).

  1. Lovely! The orange suede skirt is gorg! I keep running across a pair of (really awful) teal leather pants at good will. They have a super high waist band and pleating and just.. really awful, but the color is amazing! A lot like your shoes. Pity those are wearing out so fast. I hate when I find shoes I love that aren't real leather.

  3. Fab! I haven't seen a lot of colored suede (I live in hooterville) and this skirt is so, so great-looking. Vizzini = shoe stalker.

  4. That skirt is seriously awesome! I haven't seen anything like it in ANY fabric, let alone suede!

  5. Shiela, I just love your style. That jacket is right up my alley as I dearly love anything embroidered. I love your color mixing. The orange skirt is as Megan said gorg!

  6. Orange suede! What could be more beautiful! Thank you for the introduction to the milliner who is making your hat. Can't wait to see her creation. I have added her to my 'hat bookmarks' as another find for The Hat Detective.

  7. For some sad reason here things that are made my hand/crafts are less available.
There are no shoemakers, shirt makers and most seamstresses just alter stuff and don't make much things from scratch.
So to hear that there are hat makers still around it's a true joy :)
I look forward to seeing your hat .

  8. I have a very similar pair of turqouise heels (and they're cheap too but I love the colour!) Great orange skirt- hmm that's something I don't have... Getting a custom made hat is so neat!

  9. Fabulous jacket! I love embroidery (and I do some myself but not often) but sometimes I shy off from wearing it, I think it's so lovely that should only be put for some special occasions. I have to remind myself that every day is quite special on itself.

under your influence I start to become a suede / leather clothes junkie myself :) I already own a lovely suede skirt (from Adrienne Vittadini and also thrifted!), something unthinkable for me before.

  10. I. Want. That. Skirt. Now. And I'm astonished by the color pairing between tights and shoes. So gorgeous! I continue to marvel at color pairings that would never occur to me. You have the eye!

  11. Megan, thanks! Those pants sound very 80s! The one thing we can say about the 80s is that the colours were great (aside from seafoam and peach, blech).

    Barbara, thank you!

    Pam, ha, thank you!

Patti, I don't see much of it either - I think most of it is neutrals.

Ki, thank you! It really caught my eye.

Debbi, thank you so much, that's so kind of you!

Judith, isn't it lovely? I am so excited about my hat!

Lorena, that's so odd, and rather sad. :(

Tinfoil Tiaras, thank you so much for reading and commenting!

Victoria, thanks! I love embellishment on clothing! You should definitely wear your special things - life is short! Ooh, your skirt sounds awesome! Way to expand your horizons!

    Anne, ha, thank you!

  12. Did you know you can modpodge/ collage fabric onto shoes (use the outdoor version of the goopy stuff, if you can find it)? A simple pair like this would be easy to do. There are instructions, maybe even a video, online if you search for the how to. I'm planning to try it fairly soon myself!

    LOVE the skirt.

  13. Et, that's a great idea, thank you! I am far too lazy to do that, but maybe the modpodge fairy will visit my closet. Thanks!
