Wardrobe Challenge - Dress Like a Song

Today's Wardrobe Challenge is brought to you by Jane at Workthatwardrobe.

My song is "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" by Cake. This is a great song and a fun band.

The outfit:

That's my new black brocade jacket (as one of my co-workers pointed out, it would make a good vampire jacket!), and my blue wool suit skirt (the shortest skirt I own).

Here's the song, if you aren't familiar with it:

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond,
I want a girl who knows whats best,
I want a girl with shoes that cut,
And eyes that burn like cigarettes.
I want a girl with the right allocation,
Who's fast, and thorough, and sharp as a tack.
She's playing with her jewelry,
She's putting up her hair,
She's touring the facility and picking up slack.
I want a girl with a short skirt,
And a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong jacket.

I want a girl who gets up early,
I want a girl who stays up late,
I want a girl with uninterrupted prosperity,
Who uses a machete to cut through red tape.
With fingernails that shine like justice,
And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack,
She's touring the facility and picking up slack.
I want a girl with a short skirt,
And a long, long jacket.

I want a girl with a smooth liquidation,
I want a girl with good dividends.
At Citi Bank we will meet accidentally,
We'll start to talk when she borrows my pen.
She wants a car with a cupholder armrest,
She wants a car that will get her there,
She's changing her name from Kitty to Karen,
She's trading her MG for a white Chrysler Le Baron.
I want a girl with a short skirt,
And a loooooooooooooooooooooooong jacket.

My husband likes to sing this to me. I wish my fingernails shone like justice and my eyes burned like cigarettes! Ha!

Jacket (Rainbows), turtleneck (Reitman's), skirt (Le Chateau), tights (don't recall), boots (some cheap brand), necklace (Melanie Lynn), earrings (don't recall).

  1. I adore that song and CAKE. Excellent choice! Also, your coat is fabulous. I have a black brocade coat somewhere...I need to find it now!

  3. That jacket is the second piece I've seen on your blog by Rainbows. (The first was your holiday dress which I COVET.) Where did you find that brand? I'm really digging it.

P.S. I found your blog through Jane's dress like a song challenge.

  4. Truely one of my favorite bands! I last saw that at the Summit Big Brew in Minneapolis a few years back. One of the best concert bands ever!

Great idea for a song to dress to, you look great!

  7. Leigh-Anna: Aren't they a fun band? And black brocade is timeless - dig that jacket out!

WWWYG: welcome! Yes, you're totally welcome to add me to your blogroll - thanks!

Cat: welcome! I Googled Rainbows, but found nothing. It's a lot of very hippie-type of clothes. Lots of brocade, lace, velvet (kind of like Stevie Nicks). I got both my Rainbows items at different boutiques. It might be unique to Canada, although the clothes are made in China. I will come visit your blog!

Alison: I'm jealous - I would love to see Cake. I think they played here a few years ago. Thanks!

Kayleigh: thanks! I actually only have one really short skirt, and only two long jackets, so it wasn't hard to come up with an outfit once I picked the song.

Lady D: thank you! You look great in short skirts...it's a little harder for me to pull off. And it was the other way around: song first, then outfit.
