First up, this is what I wore to work on Friday.
Sequins! Not just for parties!
Unlike cheap sequined dresses, it's not scratchy because all of the areas that touch my skin have fabric.
I have a navy floofy net skirt that would work with this to give it a bit more visual length.
And I know my blue boots (at least 2-3 pairs of them) will work with this dress.

Outerwear and incognito.
A little blurry, must be 7am. I walked to and from work like this (wearing my Docs) so this is how most people saw me.

Accoutrements:
The stuff:
I walked to town and back twice in my wonderful lemon Docs on Friday, as L and I and pal Casey went to see Boy Golden live at Wicket Hall that night.
I used the purse in the evening.
- Leather purse - Zara, consignment
- Wool gloves - Parkhurst
- Scarf - thrifted; purchased here for $3.95

Silver bling:
L and I had dinner before we headed back to town. While I was taking pics of my stuff after work, I felt little paws on my leg.
The dress also has blue and green - easy to pick bling!
- Chain cuff - consignment
- Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
- Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
- Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
- Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
- Silver/malachite ring - consignment
- Silver earrings - Brenda Schoenfeld, 1992
"Ahem, the food is that way."
He was fed quickly, for the safety of my sequins!
We had a great time at the Boy Golden gig, chilling and grooving with Casey at the Wicket Hall in the Strathcona Hotel. I had some flashbacks to previous shows there: K-OS, The Wooden Sky, Rock & Hyde, and Idle Eyes (going back to the 80s for those ones!).
About Boy Golden here (all links 'cause I love), and I highly recommend checking out this song here - that's a link to my favourite tune, "KD and Lunch Meat" (KD is what Canadians call Kraft Dinner or Mac & Cheese, as it's known in the rest of the world). The opening act, Fontine (she's a member of his band), was also very good.
L and I hung out when we got home, until we fell asleep on the couch. We slept in on Saturday morning, then headed down to John's Place for brunch followed by a grocery shop.
Feeling very vintage here - nearly everything I'm wearing is older than 20 years.
- Mesh top - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, consignment, Powell River; purchased here for $29.00
- Suede dress - Margaret Godfrey for Bagatelle, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in October 2022 with spooky velvet
- Boots - Donald J. Pliner, vintage 90s, consignment, Sidney; last worn here in May with a green cocoon
- Velvet blazer (below) - Talbots, thrifted; last seen here in March with red, leopard and gold critters
I love getting a wearing in of this wonderful thick suede dress - it's so very 1989.
I still haven't gotten around to making outfits from my as-yet-unworn purchases, but I liked how this leopard mesh D&G top worked under the dress. - Purse - Ted Lapidus, vintage 90s, vintage fair
- Velvet gloves - Principles, vintage 00s, thrifted
- Scarf - vintage 90s, thrifted; purchased here for $2.95
The stuff:
Toe didn't like these boots for several months (they are very narrow in the toe), but they were fine for a couple of hours out and about. Aren't they magnificent?
- Copper bracelet - vintage 50s, consignment, gift from L, Seattle; purchased here for $38.00 US, I think?
- Copper/turquoise squash blossom cuff - Bell Trading Post, vintage 50s, consignment, Powell River
- Copper ball ring - consignment
- Copper/turquoise ring - vintage, Grandma J's
- Copper/enamel earrings - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 50s, Grandma J's
- Copper/turquoise brooch - vintage, thrifted
While I was taking those pics, Vizzini was up on L's lap at the computer, "helping" as usual.
Vizz is a pen fiend. He loves to try to grab them with his paw and then bite them.
"They're very tasty."
Most of our writing implements have teeth marks on them.
While we stood in line at John's Place, I dashed into the Beacon Avenue Thrift Shop. "You have 10 minutes," said L.
I was boggled by the amount of pocketry - three on one inside flap alone!
The pocket at the "2" is actually split into two - one for a pen, the other side for what? a comb? The little black fabric tag says "50" and there are no other labels on it.

I did notice that someone had cut off what was probably a knit collar or hood. I'm not sure if this is older than 20 years (90s or early 00s), but it's not from the 70s, as I'd originally thought.
The suede is too soft and is thinner than the usual thick suede of 70s pieces. It fit L perfectly and was only $45.00. That felt like a really good deal.

Very well! L and I enjoyed a quiet Saturday, playing board games late into the evening, followed by a full day of football on Sunday.
And how was your weekend? Thank you so much for stopping by!
Fabulous outfits, those cowboy boots are something else and yes to daytime sequins!
ReplyDeleteLove the suede jacket you found on your speed shop, totally L's style and those pockets are amazing. 50 is European sizing - you subtract 10 - making it a 40" chest.
Vizzini is such a scamp, attacking dresses and ravaging pens but looks so sweet and innocent snuggled up in your monster vest, bless him! xxx
Love the RL dress. The next outfit is exquisite. The skinny scarf just makes it. Lise
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and funky jammy dress! To my eye the length is fine as is, especially with the darker tights. What did it feel like to sit on sequins?
ReplyDeleteI like your brunch outfit, casual elegance (the dress) with a wink to having fun and making your own rules (leopard top and boots). The dress looks fabulous on your frame.
Nice haul on the jacket for L. Vizzini wonders where his goodies are…ah, he says, I’ll settle for a pen. ;)
Cheers, Laurie
Loving the daytime sequins worn with the navy tights and those fabulous lemon Docs. Saturday's outfit is my favourite, though. I mean: those boots!! The suede dress! the leopard mesh top! Not to mention the copper/turquoise bling and that gorgeous striped scarf!
ReplyDeleteWell done on finding that gorgeous suede coat for L. during your 10-minute shop!
I had to giggle at Vizzini's fascination for pens! Bess says she understands entirely ... xxx
I wrote a hole story about suede because I wore it a lot in 1989,1990. But couldn't publish it as a comment. So this is the second attempt. You had a pretty good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI bet L was glad you went into the thrift store. What a fab jacket! I can't envision it with a knitted collar but it looks just as good without.
ReplyDeleteYour outfits were lovely and as for the cowboy boots - indeed they are magnificent!
Vizzini is such a character...
xxx
I'd say 50 of the brown suede jacket refers to the size. At least we have size 50 for men in Europe.
ReplyDeleteAs for the top outfit...love the dress with the yellow/lime boots.
