Summer Brights and a Wee Shop

Hello, my friends - no Mom-Day Adventure today, as Helen is feeling tired by her (very) busy week. She also had a Covid scare (good news, she's negative), so that's added to her stress and exhaustion. Plus, that's part of Post-Polio Syndrome. Kindly send Mom your good vibes - we'll be back on schedule next week, I'm sure!

I did muster energy to get dressed and go out in public. I recently got some internal recognition at work that resulted in a couple of $100 gift cards, and I desperately needed new bras so that was my mission.
I just buy the same bras every time, so I don't try them on (Wacoal is my brand). I dressed to feel bright and cheery.

  • Jacket - Gap, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in June with blue and black tweed
  • Dress - Trina Turk, thrifted; first seen here in May with a jungle bomber
  • Boots - Doc Martens; last worn here in July for three days in Vancouver with my best gals!

This is how most people saw me.
I had a lovely chat on my walk to town with a skateboard dude who admired all my colours.

Lots of comments on my outfit today.
You couldn't miss me!

It was a bit too hot for the wool moto jacket, but it kept the sun off me while walking around town.
In addition to the stop at the Bay for my bras, I also had a good browse through the Velvet Crease, and the WIN store on Pandora.

It was so hot in there, I had to take my jacket off.
I layered a light yellow tank under the dress. Pockets!

I bought the tights several years ago for $1.00 in the thrift store.
My klassy festival bracelet got me an extra 10% off when I picked up a couple of CDs for L at Ditch.

Incognito.
It's still summer - I've got to wear my brights.

The stuff:
I like the mix of newer and vintage. The boots were great for shopping.

  • Leather purse - Julia Sanchez for Vendome, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Silk scarf - YSL by Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted

Colourful bling:
The brooch belonged to my grandmother, Mom's mom. I bet she wore it to church.

  • Earrings - consignment
  • Brooch (earrings not worn) - vintage 60s, Gram S.'s
  • Flower ring - Sidney
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's

I found the treasure of the day right away - I walked into the Velvet Crease and this pink leather backpack was sitting on top of a display.
SO. COOL.

I recognize this little symbol on the back.
I love this shade of pink.

It's real leather.
It has all the bells and whistles, and very little wear.

Inside zip wallet pocket, slots for bits and bobs.
There are eight zipper pockets on the front and sides, and all of them reveal good-sized real pockets. It's by Ash - I used to have boots by them, these last seen here, let go of them last year) - so I recognized the name. This is called the Angel backpack and it retailed for $320.00 - I paid $50.00.

On to WIN! I always keep my eye out for good men's shirts, either for L or for my other guy-friends.
The pattern of this one caught my eye.

I know these paisleys.
Brown, soft pinks and tan.

Etro is one of the old classic brands - they brought the paisley to prominence in the 60s. This shirt has a bit of age on it (maybe 10-15 years), but $14.95 is still a good deal for an Etro shirt.
They're at least $200 new, for the very cheapest ones.

I didn't find much for me, aside from this vintage camisole.
It has built-in shoulder pads! Hilarious! This is why we all looked like linebackers for a few years - you had shoulder pads in your camisole, your blouse, your blazer and your jacket.

This is now handy for those vintage shirts where the previous owner has removed the originals. I know I did that - I used to have a drawer-ful of the pads that I eventually threw away.
It was a bargain at $5.95. No tags, but this is from the late 80s.

And lastly, this little sparkly kitty jumped into my basket.
"Take me home!"

I can't resist - he'll go with my Hallowe'en decor.
A mere $1.95.

And now, my friends, as you may have surmised, I'm off to enjoy more concerts and festival festivities this weekend. I will be back on Sunday with tales of adventure, so please pop in. Thank you so much for visiting!

  1. I'm glad Helen is Covid-free. Liz's Mum Hazel (82) went down with it when Liz was in Greece and said it was much worse than the last time she caught it.
Loving those vibrantly bright shades and well done on the vouchers, how brilliant to be rewarded for your work.
Loving that Etro shirt and the sparkly kitty - I'd be tempted to put a few treats in that and watch Vizzini trying to ferret them out.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! xxx

    1. Me too! Mom hasn't had Covid at all (neither have L or I), and she's very careful about it.

Thank you! It's great having new bras.

Ha, putting kitty treats in the ceramic cat is just asking for it to get broken! Thank you, Vix!

  3. Hi Helen, yay for being Covid-free! Here’s to rest yielding relaxation yielding energy. ❤️

Sheila, great expression in the photo without the lush pink blazer! Makes me think of “Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?” And your expression says “Who me? Couldn’t be!” ;)

Your outfit speaks to pure fun in dressing for the day. Here’s to your upcoming second weekend of music, outfits and fun!

    Cheers, Laurie

  6. I admire your colourful outfit too.
I just love your vibrant colours. The tights are so fab. The scarf is so fun too.
I miss the colours....we have a new black and white dresscode at work. It's alright because it's not too strict but I miss my colourful stuff.
I hope your mother is feeling better.

    1. A black and white dress code at work? I've never heard of that! How odd that you can't wear colour. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, Ivana.
