Autumn Whites and Acid-Wash Denim

I wore a semi-profesh outfit, just in case there was anyone in the office today.
I only saw two other people all day!

  • Blazer - Moda International, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Bodysuit - Madewell, thrifted; last worn here in January
  • Skirt - Jazzino, vintage 80s, consignment; purchased here for $53.00
  • Shoes - Ishshoes Zoomies, Fluevog; last seen here in April with dots and patterns

So I'm extra-grateful for you readers out there. No outfit goes to waste!
I'm wearing a lot of new-to-me items in this outfit, with the goal of squeezing in my recent purchases before I do the Great Fall Closet Swap-Over (coming soon).

This is the blazer from the striped suit that I thrifted last week, and although I love "autumn whites" it will be packed away soon until spring.
This amazing acid-wash studded and embroidered skirt just couldn't wait any longer to be worn. Nice big pockets in the skirt made up for zero pockets on the blazer.

Not as exciting from the back.
I was less than thrilled that the little studs on the front of the skirt grabbed and snagged at my nylons (destroying them utterly) and my skin (ouch, a few scratches).

I'm thinking of a crafty solution, like hot-gluing some thin ribbon over the back seams of the denim skirt.
Other than the studs, this was an awesome skirt to wear. Will I keep it out for fall? Not sure yet.

Incognito.
It was overcast and mild in the morning, but by the end of the day, there was a steady downpour of rain.

Accoutrements:
I switched to Movie Star Wrap (minus the shades) for the walk home, which kept my hair dry. That dark green "shadow" on the scarf is water - it's hanging up to dry.

  • Wool scarf - Pierre Cardin, vintage, thrifted; purchased here for $3.95
  • Leather gloves - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
More white in autumn! I don't keep these out, but I do have other white shoes that say in my closet all year.

White, gold and black bling:
Finding good quality gold-coloured metal is hard when you shop second-hand. Most of the "gold" out there is junk.

  • Belt - Banana Republic, thrifted
  • Necklace - J. Crew, thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Filigree bracelet - thrifted, Sidney
  • Gold-tone bangle - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Bird brooch - consignment

The bird brooch was worn high up on my blazer's lapel.

  2. Please keep the skirt out for autumn...denim and flowers? Yes! I am imagining the outfits you could make. Gluing ribbon or hemtape over the back of the studs should work. I'd use fabric glue which is washable.

    1. I did not, Kathy - it just feels like a more springy piece to me. Good call on the fabric tape, thank you!

  3. That skirt is such a stunner, Sheila. Just wow! Shame about the tights-eating and leg-scratching studs, but I think you'll be able to remedy that with your proposed thin ribbon and glue-gun trick. I was going to suggest layering it with a half-slip/underskirt, but I suppose the studs will then just eat that instead ... xxx

    1. Yes, that was a nasty surprise - very pokey! I might even stitch a thin lining across the whole front. I would never risk one of my (increasingly rare) vintage slips on it - I agree!
