Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Sparkly Double Denim; Orange Shorts Brunch; Red and Leopard Hang-Out

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you've had a lovely weekend - if you're in Canada, I hope that the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation found you in a good place (about it here).

Friday found me ready to bust out my sparkly double denim suit!
Aside from really wanting to wear it, I also was determined to wear these shoes, as they've been languishing in my closet for a while.

  • Denim suit - Cappopera, vintage 90s, consignment; purchased here for $68.00
  • T-shirt - Northern Reflections, thrifted; purchased here for $9.95
  • Shoes - Super Fine Eminence, Fluevog; last worn here in February 2022 with all-pink for V-Day

When I found this pink tee this past week in the WIN Boutique, I knew it was time.
I didn't take the jacket off all day, nor did I wear it unsnapped.

It's meant to be done up, so done up it shall be.
A solid rear view.

This is how most people saw me.
I had to run an errand mid-morning and ventured out into the Real World briefly.

I loved wearing this suit, and I know I'll style it for fall winter.
The jeans were more flared than they look in these pics, as I wore them unzipped all day.

Incognito.
Voila! We had lovely weather today - I needed the gloves only in the morning.

The stuff:
These shoes have the same brocade as last week's boots (here). I wasn't sure that I needed two pairs with the same fabric, but I think they are sufficiently different than the boots. They're also comfy as heck - that heel doesn't feel tall at all. I must make more of an effort to style them, though - this is only their 5th wearing.

  • Leather gloves - consignment
  • Silk scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment

Gold bling:
Only the amethyst ring is real gold, though.

  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Gold/crystal/tortoiseshell bracelet - J. Crew, consignment
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - thrifted

L and I hung out on Friday night, partaking in an evening of board games and music - it's our favourite thing to do. On Saturday, we were up early for brunch at John's Place.
It was Orange Shirt Day (about it here), and although I don't have an orange shirt, I do have ORANGE LEATHER SHORTS (sorry, they insist on all-caps).

  • Suede jacket - Pioneer Wear, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in May 2022 for the Day of Indolence
  • Sparkly sweater - Levi's, consignment; purchased here for $44.00
  • Shorts - Danier Leather, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in June 2022 for brunch and groceries
  • Suede boots - Coach, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in May with the murder-mystery blouse

Younger me would have been horrified at a nearly 56-year-old woman in ORANGE LEATHER SHORTS.
Older me doesn't give a flying fork.

I adore this suede jacket - it's so awesomely 80s.
Dig my pony-beads!

Without the coat, which I took off while we had brunch.
I love those ginormous pockets.

I featured this new-to-me sparkly sweater for the first time.
Not itchy (always a risk with sparkle) and very comfy. I predict I will get a lot of wear out of it.

Incognito.
We grocery shopped after brunch, then L and I had a browse in Vanity Fair Antique Mall for my upcoming birthday. Didn't find much, but that's okay - L always knows what to get me.

The stuff:
I considered a shop in the Fort Street second-hand shops, but only a few were actually open, and I didn't feel like walking home in that heel. It's not too high, but not really good for walking any distance.

  • Purse - Rebecca Minkoff, consignment
  • Prescriptions sunglasses - WOW

Black bling:
Just a few bold pieces.

  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Studded cuff - vintage 90s
  • Silver chain ring - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver earrings - consignment

Now that the weather's a little cooler, we've closed the screens on the enclosed deck, and one of the deck doors.
"But now I want to sit out here!"

After an entire summer of NOT sitting on the benches, the blankets, the chairs...NOW is the time you want to sit here, Vizzini?
"Sigh. You will never understand, Woman."

After an afternoon of revelry with friends (L) and a movie (for me), we rejoined on Saturday night and played some board games late into the evening. Our pal Spence joined us for breakfast and a football game on Sunday morning, then L and I walked to town to meet up with our usual crew for a long weekend hangout.
It's not a long weekend for me (I have to work tomorrow), but I'm always up to see my friends.

  • Dress - Diane Von Furstenberg, consignment; last worn here in May with snoots and snakes
  • Boots - Matisse, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in March with a velvet vest
  • Coat (below) - Cache, consignment; last worn here in November 2022 for brunch and a shop

Just like in my clothes closet, I have been checking for backwards hangers in my coat closet - this satin leopard beauty hadn't been worn in a long time.
"My coat goes with everything."

Some coats have to be planned for.

We met up at the Commons, where we chatted, ate and drank until close to 7pm.
This lovely red dress needed another wear before I pack it away.

It's very thin silk.
I layered a tank and tights under it.

Incognito.
Sunnies for the walk downtown...

...and accoutrements for when the sun goes down.
I'm happy to be wearing these boots again - Toe had an issue with them for a while.

Accoutrements:
Some luxe, second-hand things.

  • Leather purse - FiveLeft, handmade, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Pierre Balmain, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment

The stuff:
I should give these boots a polish - they are a bit scuffed. They're still a good height and comfy for walking.

Brassy bling:
I wear a lot of brass in the autumn - much of this will stay out for the fall/winter season.

  • Belt - consignment
  • Cuff - vintage 60s, consignment
  • Gold chain bracelet - Dad's
  • Leather/chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Gold-plated ear-cuffs - consignment
  • Gold hoops - 5th anniversary gift from L
  • Necklace/earrings - Raphael Canada, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall.

Vizzini, we're home now, ready for some cuddles!
"Are you sure? You've been out a lot lately."

Yes, bud, time for some attention and play.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend - thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. Love the outfits especially the denim trouser suit; the amazing pink shoes and the beautiful DVF dress. I thought it was a knitted dress at first. Fabulous bling and accoutrements with everything.

    Aren't cats contrary?

    Have a great week.

    1. Thanks so much, Vronni! Yes, the DVF dress is a very thin woven silk. Thank you! Yes, L and I were quite amused by Vizzini's antics.

  2. Fabulous outfits all around Sheila!
I'm swooning over the denim suit, and the pink tee and pink brocade shoes *suit* it perfectly.
The orange leather shorts definitely deserve all the CAPS, and that is one funky outfit you created with them!
My favourite must be Sunday's outfit though. The red dress - which like Vronni I thought was knitted - and satin leopard coat are a very classy combo!
Cats! What are they like! Typical cat behaviour, though! xxx

    1. Thank you, Ann! I have to go full-on funky every so often to remind myself that I can. Aw, thanks, I love that shade of dark red.

      Typical cats, right?

  3. The denim suit is amazing on you and I love it with the pink! It's great you could give those pretty shoes another wear :) I think my favourite outfit is the last one with the red dress and awesome leopard coat, but you know I have a soft spot for blue and orange so I like that cobalt jacket with the orange shorts too! :)

Thanks for joining the link up!

    1. Thank you so much! The shoes are tricky to style, but I did really enjoy them. I like the last one too - it's nice to have easy outfits like this. Glad to see you!

  4. You styled that suit very well with the pop of pink in the top and those awesome shoes.
I also liked the orange leather shorts with that sparkly top and the boots. Makes me regret having given away my blush pink leather shorts. Because I thought I was to old for that. I should not have cared.
