Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Fancy Friday in High-Low; Incognito in White Jeans; Primary Book Club Brunch

Welcome back, my friends! It's been a busy weekend, and I have a football game to get caught up on, so let's get right to it! Be ready for a Friday work outfit, Saturday outing ensemble, some kitty shenanigans, plus Book Club on Sunday. Woo, I need another weekend, stat.

Let's start with Friday's work outfit - I had to leave mid-morning for a dentist appointment (nothing nasty, just a quick cleaning), so I wanted to be comfy.
This dress definitely fits the bill.

  • Dress - Romeo Gigli, vintage 90s consignment; last worn here in February 2022 with pops of blue and red
  • Skater boots - consignment, Powell River; last seen here in December 2022 with acid-wash and lace
  • Sweetums cape (below) - last worn here a week ago

I was amused by the mix of high- and low-end pieces in this outfit.
The dress is a Real Designer, Romeo Gigli. I'm also showing off my vintage Valentino earrings here.

The belt is Christian Dior (so classy!).
The tights were even expensive! Good thing my mother-in-law bought them for me years ago!

The booties are crap quality, even though they LOOK classy.
Oh well, I'll just wave my extra-long sleeves at that and move on.

Masked up.
My ginormous earrings steal the show.

Outerwear.
It was supposed to pour rain today...and it did not.

Accoutrements:
First wearing of this lovely plum-coloured wool felt hat.

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Hat - Club Monaco, thrifted; purchased here for $12.95
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I love the fabric of these boots, but everything else about them frustrates me. One of the "skater" hooks fell off today. The soles feel like cardboard!

Couture bling:
While I LOVE the earrings so much, they are major hair-snaggers - I'll have to remember to wear my hair up next time. They also pinched quite a bit over the course of the day, so I adjusted them slightly by ever-so-gently pulling the back out a fraction of a millimeter.

  • Belt - Christian Dior, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - Valentino, vintage 70s, vintage mall; purchased here for $45.00
  • Bangle - fake Gucci, gift from Italy from Mom & Dad
  • Cuff - D'Orlan, vintage 60s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's

I see bangles just like mine advertised as real vintage Gucci all over the internet. They are not Gucci - Mom bought mine from a street vendor in Italy. She would never go into a Gucci store! (no diss to Mom, I asked her!).

L and I listed to new albums and played boardgames on Friday night, then slept in a little before doing our weekly grocery run. Cat and Ross came over on Saturday night for a game of Arkham Horror, and of course hijinks and hilarity ensued.
I wore the same outfit all day. We had a little bit of sun, woo hoo!

  • Sweatshirt - The Kooples, thrifted; last see here (2nd outfit) in November 2022 with lime green and purple
  • Jeans - Cambio; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November 2022 with sparkly sneakers and vintage silk
  • Boots - Prepare Map, Fluevog; last seen here in March 2022 with floral and purple velvet
  • Cape (below) - Arola by Pirkko Maki, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in October 2022

I have my Frank Turner tour shirt on underneath.
And my "Go away, I'm introverting" socks on.

Trying not to laugh at L.
My jeans are starting to pick up spots here and there.

I probably should have covered myself in plastic before eating tacos for lunch. Into the wash they go!
I only paid $5.00 for them, and they have proven to be a good purchase, so I'll be on the lookout for an upgrade (Always Be Upgrading!).

Masked up.
For the grocery store, and I also popped into favourite local gift shop Oscar & Libby's and bought all my Book Club gals (including me!) new books bags. Both Janaki and I lost our favourite totes recently, and who doesn't like a pretty new bag?

Incognito!
I reveled in wearing my shades again! Prescription sunglasses were such a good purchase.

A little extra warmth for my hands.
My purse is on underneath the cape - that's the only way to wear a crossbody bag with a cape.

Accoutrements:
Purples and greys.

  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Scarf - Fluevog
  • Arm warmers - the Earth Store, fair trade; purchased here for $16.00
  • Mask - by Mom

I really appreciated the arm warmers!

The stuff:
I realized when we arrived at the grocery store that I'd lost one of my boot heels! Fortunately, L located it in the car. Phew! A bit of super-glue and they're right as rain.

Badass bling:
Some easy pieces to leave on till the wee hours.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Studded cuff - vintage 80s
  • Leather cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/Kyanite ring - consignment
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair
  • Silver earrings - Israel, consignment

Vizzini, what are you doing sleeping on my Monster Vest?
"You told me not to."

That is correct. Reverse psychology works really well on him.

I don't mind if he sleeps on it. It's snuggly warm (I was wearing it for boardgaming), and his medication makes him cold.
"You spoiled all my fun!"

Sorry, bud. No more sleeping my fur vest, okay? That's right out! Also, don't go hiding in your little leopard house either...

Although I was the "host" of Book Club this Sunday, due to it being NFL football playoffs (and house favourite Miami in the hunt for a Wild Card spot!), I chose to host it in a pub.
Some bright primary colours to wake you up in the morning!

  • Cardigan - Banana Republic, consignment; first worn here in October 2022 with my brightest brights
  • Turtleneck - Yest; last seen here in December 2022 layered under a silk tunic
  • Dress - Emoji x Peacebird, consignment; first worn here in October 2022 with Boss Pants
  • Boots - Original Sabado, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in November 2022 with a sequined dress for Linda's birthday

Last time I wore this dress, it was with trousers - this time, it's fleece-lined leggings.
It was only a quick walk to Bear & Joey restaurant (with no TVs showing football) and back home.

I wanted to be cozy and comfy.
A bit swath of yellow wool will do the trick nicely.

The weird decorations on this dress.
It says, "To My Best Friend" and a wee arrow that says "Next."

Masked up.
I like the little person waving from the pocket.

Accoutrements.
This was fine - it was very mild and I walked quickly, although the wind was cold on the way home.

Accoutrements:
I snagged this ginormous scarf from L's collection (I bought it for him earlier this year, second-hand, of course).

  • Purse - Danier, thrifted
  • Scarf - consignment
  • Gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
Easy walking boots.

Minimal bling:
A few favourites.

  • Mesh bracelet - Sidney
  • Cuff with crystals - Juicy Couture, consignment
  • Hematite ring - thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Kyanite ring - consignment
  • Ball earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver

We met up for a lovely brunch.
Bear & Joey (named after cats, just like Oscar & Libby's!) is a lovely local brunch spot.

I'm amused by the "retro" 80s décor colours - remember when this pink and green were super-trendy? I'm not really on board for a revival of it.
Janaki, Ciara and Mindy.

Caro and Yvonne.
It was soooo good to see everyone!

Me and Cat.
We ordered drinks and tucked in.
I had mushroom toast with a poached egg, baba ghanoush, pickled radish, mascarpone, and truffle oil - so decadent!

Everyone thought I'd dressed to match the book we were discussing, Cat's pick, "The Sentence" by Louise Erdrich.
Nope, just a coincidence! I loved that book, though - highly recommended.

Bonus pics from Yvonne!
Embrace the matchy!

All of us!
From left: Yvonne, Janaki, Ciara, Mindy, me, Cat, Caro. Love you amazing women!

Our next book is Ciara's pick: "Feminist City: A Field Guide" (non-fiction) by Leslie Kern.
And that's the tote I ended up with after everyone grabbed the design they wanted.

I arrived home to sadly find that Miami had not won their Wild Card - no more playoffs for our beloved Dolphins. I hoped Vizzini would be consoling L, but he was nowhere to be found.
"The Man was yelling a lot."

Vizzini, there you are!
"Yes, here I am."

Snug as a bug, in a leopard cave!
"I'll thank you to leave me to sleep, Woman."

Maybe I can entice him out for a couple of cuddles.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

  1. Hi Sheila! Happy New Year my friend Love your look in that great Gigli dress- you have it down packed with the Dior belt especially! You are a wiz at finding these gems. Also, those blue boots are incredible!

  2. What a fun weekend! The Gigli dress looks so cosy and luxe and I'm loving both your hair and the fun primary colours in your Book Club outfit. Well done to L for finding the heel tip of those ace boots - eagle eyes!
I love the Cole and Sons 1950s Miami wallpaper, I couldn't bring myself to pay £118 a roll but papered one of my dolls house rooms in it instead! I'm dribbling over the keyboard at your lunch - wow!
Vizzini looks so snug and cute! xxx

  3. You did match the book cover. You have inspired me to look for a cape for spring and fall. My Vikings went the way of your Dolphins. Now I truly have no one to root for or against. I don't care about any teams left.

  4. I'm sorry that I missed a lot last week, my father passed away.
How good it is to be with friends right. Love the black dress, as you could have guessed, lol.

  5. How did you match the book cover so perfectly? Lovely outfit. All the outfits were fab and you have some gorgeous capes to boot! Glad you had some sun and some milder weather; we're about to have another very cold spell here....

Vizzini is just way too cute!

  6. Wow, that's such a fun and action packed weekend, Sheila. Mine was rather tame in comparison, particularly since after the office move I was too tired to do much.
Friday's outfit looks super cozy as well as classy, and I'm swooning over Friday's and Saturday's capes. What a relief that L. found the boot heel in the car!
My favourite outfit is Sunday's primary coloured book club one. What a sight for sore and sun-starved eyes! I can't get over how well it matches the Louise Erdrich book cover. I'll be on the lookout for that book, since it comes highly recommended by you.
How cute Vizzini looks in his leopard cave, although I can't blame him for sleeping on your monster vest! xxx

  7. I really like that first outfit - the dress and belt were made for each other, but your book club outfit is my favourite, it's just so cheerful! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the Sentence - it took me such a long time to get into, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would!

  8. Lovely outfit; looks like you won a lottery. And meeting girlfriends is always fun. I wish I could do that more.

  9. Looking fabulous in your designer dress and magnificent jewellery. I hear you on those earrings, some of my dangling ones are scarf-snaggers (so annoying!). Love that your tights match your cape colours, and such a fabulous cape!. Same for the second cape, totally in love with it!. Great tips on wearing your bag under the cape, and also about wristwarmers!
Love your outfit in bold colours, ready to meet your friends and match the book (embrace the matchy!). Looking fab!
    besos

  10. Something about the high blue boots plus the combo of red and the yellow items makes me think Wonder Woman! That's a fabulous outfit.
