Every so often, when I'm looking up my "last seen here" posts, I scroll through and re-read them, reliving the day, events and shopping that may or may not have occurred. On one of these recent digressions, I realized I'd completely forgotten about this new-to-me dress!
I'd set it aside for a special occasion, and then it had gotten buried under a mound of other things.
- Jacket - Tahari, consignment; last worn here in February for a Mom-Day Adventure
- Dress - Desigual, thrifted; purchased here for $23.95
- Boots - Prepare Map, Fluevog; last seen here in December 2020 with sequins and stripes
- Coat (below) - River Island, consignment; last worn here on the weekend
I love the pattern of the fabric, which is a shemozzle of florals and abstract designs.
It has a lot of reds and purples in it - and you know I have a lot of those colours in my closet!
The jacket is a dark purple - the body is velvet and the sleeves are a stretchy fabric.
It bookended the boots/tights nicely, even though they are different shades of purple.
It does up like a motorcycle jacket.
I like that the sides have a sort of pannier-like shape to them. It's an interesting detail, and I am all about the details!
Here's the dress without the jacket, so you can see how it looks solo.
The material is twisted over the hip, which is extra-super-duper flattering.
Whomp-whomp, the upper back is solid black.
And while that's normally a deal-breaker for me (we are seen from all sides, designers!), I knew I'd wear a jacket with this most of the time.
Masked up - a purple one!
The dress is a thin viscose knit, so I've layered a vintage slip under it - it really helped it sit smoothly, not grab at my tights, and added a bit of warmth.
Outerwear - we're in for rain rain rain for the next several days.
But I'm ready! Bring it on! Of course, it did not rain at all and I was completed over-accoutrement-ed.
My trusty purple wool is excellent in the rain - I just tuck my hair inside it. However, I carried it and the scarf home.
- Beret - consignment
- Gloves - Danier Leather
- Scarf - Elaine Gold, Lazy Susan's
- Mask - by Mom
I'm ashamed that I haven't worn these boots in over a year! They have to be laced on - no zipper - so I have to commit to wearing them and dealing with the
kitty spaghetti leather laces. I wore them to the hairdresser after work so that I could show them to Kaitlyn (returning her not-to-be disintegrating faux leather jacket to her), and then walked home in them. Lest you think I'm crazy for walking in heels, there's a 1.5 inch platform in the front - these are a net 1 inch heel.
I like my sparkly purple set.
- Necklace/bracelet/earrings - Myka, gifts from L
- Brooch - The Bay, c. 2000
- Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
- Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
Very nice dress. Like the boots, too. I'm surprised with the volume and frequency of your shopping that you don't overlook purchases more often. There simply aren't enough days in the year for our cute outfits!ReplyDelete
I usually plan outfits for new items immediately, or I stash them in my off-season spot. I held this dress out as I thought I might wear it while L and I are on vacation, and then forgot about it under a pile of sweaters.Delete
Oh, tell me about it! I have more clothes than days in the calendar!
Fantastic ensemble! That purple velvet motorcycle jacket is such a cool piece! It instantly made me wonder why we don't see more moto jackets in velvet. It is a soft, often flexible fabric that is right at home in the rock and roll environ inherent to this type of topper.ReplyDelete

I stalked that jacket until it went on sale at the Velvet Crease. I love the rich colour and the elegant cut. Thanks, Autumn!Delete
That dress is so you Sheila! It shows your figure perfectly. I love the big floral design as well. Great idea to wear a slip under it for more warmth. Fabulous jacket and coat as well.ReplyDelete
I hope you've been doing well. I'm taking a break from blogging so I'm not commenting as much.
I noticed you hadn't been around, Ivana - I hope you are doing okay and enjoying your break. :)Delete
Thank you so much! I love it too!
I love the bold floral print of that dress and the kick ass boots. How wonderful to have inherited your Dad's ring. xxxReplyDelete
I've had Dad's ring since he died in 1997 - I wear it frequently. :)Delete
Echoing everyone’s positive comments about your outfit. It is refreshing and uplifting, klassy (also with a “c” :)) and exudes vibes of strength.ReplyDelete
Ah, the rain didn’t come to Victoria. Well, the wet snow has been falling in my neck of New York since 9:45 this morning! It is a winter-into-spring snow, wet, white, and not sticking to roads.
Yay, I'm glad you liked it, Laurie, thank you.Delete
No, it's been really nice and sunny here today, although very windy. Snow?? Yuck!
I often re-read old posts too, in particular the pre-Covid and other stuff ones, which make me realize we were living in the age of innocence back then. And yes, it sometimes reminds me of particular half-forgotten items of clothing as well.ReplyDelete
The dress's pattern is gorgeous - I love the word "shemozzle" - and it looks great bookended in purple. The neglected boots are fabulous and it's always lovely to see that marvellous coat. Sorry to hear you're in for some rainy days. Ours has upped and left, but I swear I didn't send it your way! xxx
I enjoy going down Memory Lane with them, Ann. We really did live in halcyon times, didn't we? Shemozzle is a Yiddish word, I believe.Delete
Thank you! I'm kicking myself for not wearing these boots sooner and more often this year. The rain has held off and we're enjoying sun (and wind) right now.
That's a fantastic dress! And those boots would drive me mad, but it would be worth it.ReplyDelete
Yes, the lacing is a pain, and the leather laces are really delicate too. Plus the wooden beads knock against each other and the shoes, which means I sound like a rain-stick when I'm walking. :)Delete
Love the funky boots and floral dress…great outfit!ReplyDelete
So beautiful dress, love its colours and the cool floral print, and love that you bookended it with purple!. Lovely jacket and lovely boots, they rock together!. Your purple jewellery is so amazing!ReplyDelete
Always love some purple velvet!
It's a really comfy dress and I loved it with purple. Thanks so much!Delete
