Pattern Clash: Stripes, Dots and Plaid

I only worked a half-day today/Friday, but I still had to do a full outfit. At this point, so fresh in my spring/summer wardrobe, it's almost too overwhelming to choose a single outfit. So many good things available! What to choose?
I actually sort of dressed for the weather - it's still chilly, windy, rainy and sunny, so layers are my friend in springtime. I also do enjoy a good pattern clash.

  • Jacket - Dex, consignment; last worn here in July 2019 with orangey-red
  • Top - Bellessa, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in May 2019 for a weekend shopping trip
  • Skirt - Baraschi, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) on a weekend shop (I miss my weekend shopping trips!) in April 2019
  • Shoes - Truths Pilgrim, Fluevog; last seen here in January with rainbow colour therapy
  • Coat (below) - L'Atiste, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in March

I started with the jacket, because it's nice and thick, and I adore the ragged ruffles all over it.
"Your jacket's not finished," L helpfully noted when he saw me this morning. It's deliberate! Silly man.

I very much liked how this jacket went with this dotted and floral skirt.
The skirt is lined, but it's cotton, so it's very lightweight. I have nylons on - no bare legs here yet!

I could have done a plain coloured top but instead, I pulled this sleeveless black and white striped mock-neck.
That's a nice neutral stripe and I like how it went with the skirt.

As I was getting my outerwear together, I noticed Vizzini looking balefully at me.
"You're going to work? But we have to cuddle!"

We did have a cuddle, but I had to rush to get out the door! I've gotten used to sleeping in!

Outerwear - this was not warm enough with the wind and rain. I got soaked on the way to work.
And it was so windy on the way home, I had to stuff my hat in a bag. Then it was sunny. Then more rain. Ah, spring. No wonder T.S. Eliot said, "April is the cruelest month."

  • Hat - vintage, thrifted, Vancouver
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Since I only did a half-day, I didn't feel like wearing heels. There were only 4 of us in the office again.

Simple bling:
With all that pattern, I just kept things minimal. I'm happy to have these vintage white clip-on hoops back.

  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - vintage 70s?, vintage fair

My arrival at home was greeted with much joyful rolling around - by Vizzini, of course, although L was also happy to see me.
"You're home! Rub my tum!"

My friends, I will be back later this weekend with tales of silliness! Stay safe and healthy, and thank you so much for dropping by.

  2. Pattern mixing isn't something most people can do; or at least can't do well. You have a knack for getting it right and it certainly is a gift. I either don't have the knack, or the daring, or both - sigh. I am merely an appreciator of art.

I'm glad you were warmly welcomed home and I hope you have a wonderful weekend (if it ain't out of keeping with the situation).

    Keep well.

  8. That jacket and those shoes are amazing! Love, love, love them! Just the entire entire ensemble is so fun, Sheila!

I'm glad somebody is getting to go into their office. I'm still working from home, alas, and missing the camaraderie despite zoom meetings. Oh well, we press on! 🖤

The deconstructed jacket is like Chanel with attitude.

  10. You do pattern clashing very well. I am not so good with that, I actually shy away from it. I could do what you did but without the jacket. Well you know me... more conservative. Nevertheless I admire you for it.

  11. What a delightful outfit Sheila, it put a very big smile on my face! Such a wonderful mix of patterns. The print of that skirt is right up my street, and that ruffled jacket is all kinds of wonderful as well. The black and white striped top manages to pull both the skirt and the jacket together, and I love how you continued the black and white theme by wearing that marvellous plaid coat. It must have felt weird going out to work again on Friday, and for only half a day as well! I'm honestly not looking forward to Monday. I quite like being at home. Not that I've achieved much so far, but I've read and did a couple of little things that made me happy. Even managed a little walk earlier today. Looking forward to more tales of silliness! Enjoy! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Ann! I love the skirt - I like when the pattern mixing is already partly there!

Yes, it was really weird being out, but especially being dressed up, when most of the world is in pajamas! I like being home too, but back to work on Monday for me as well. I'm really glad you got in some reading and did some things that made you happy. Yay!

  16. Vizzini is a brat!!! But an adorable brat!!!! I adore your orange notes in the outfit- Vix was also wearing a brilliant orange dress in a post I read earlier - the orange goes well with your blog background! You are a genius at combining different patterns and textures!

Thank you! They are really close to red - oranges, reds and yellows are my favourites, hence the blog background.

  17. I miss coming home to a cat that was excited to see me. Sylvester is over the novelty of having me home all the time and has taken to disappearing for hours on end, and when I look for him, I find he's sleeping under the covers on my bed, which he rarely does. He's sick of me already!

    1. Vizzini always comes running - he gets fed when I get home, so it's totally "cupboard love"! Vizzini does that too - even though it's warm-ish in our house, he burrows under there when he's cold.
