Citrus Zest - Lace and Polka Dots

And back to work today - what strange times these are. Sometimes I feel like the only dressed up person in the world.
Especially when I am extra zesty with my colour mixes! The people I do see around are a LOT more casual than me.

  • Jacket - fake Gucci (Gookey!), thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in August 2019 to the Ulti field
  • Sleeveless blouse - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here in October 2019, layered under embroidered velvet
  • Skirt - Compania Fantastica, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here in August 2019 with a pattern clash
  • Shoes - Camper; first worn here (2nd outfit) in the middle of two snow days in January

I felt very citrus-y with this lovely orange skirt mixed with this rich green lace bomber - it's almost like the rind on a lime.

Ever since I've had this jacket, it's delighted me. This is its 11th wear since I bought it here in October 2017 for $5.00. It tickles me that it's fake Gucci; it's not sewn anywhere near as well as real Gucci is. I'm thrilled to wear it again.
The skirt is another favourite; I bought it last year when L and I went to Vancouver for our anniversary. It's such a glorious colour, and the swingy pleats gives it about a Swoosh Factor 7. It's also lined and has a wide elastic waist. It's comfier than jammies!
Polka dots are one of my favourite patterns. They're practically a neutral.

It's still chilly in the mornings, but it was up to 19 today!
Buttoned up on the walk to work...

...and worn open on the way home.
All those colours make me happy.

The stuff:
Super comfy shoes - and I love that the orange soles and heels went with the skirt.

Matchy bling:
I have a lot of "sets" of coloured jewelry that I like to wear together. Get used to seeing these two!

  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Cuff/ring - vintage 60s, Italian, vintage mall
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Aventurine/silver ring - consignment
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver

  1. You are the only dressed-up person I've seen all week! Great colour combination.

  2. Colour drenched today! It is obvious that you are thoroughly enjoying this ensemble; you are positively aglow! You are most definitely the most dressed up, stylish person I have seen in quite a while. Truthfully here at my house we don't put a lot of effort into getting dressed at the moment, but to our credit we are actually getting dressed every day and I still do make up and hair in the morning.

There are quite a few memes out there about home hair cuts and growing out your roots. I have to admit to both at the moment. Hair stylists are going to be the busiest people around when this is over and mine is not going to be happy with me, lol. You are managing to keep your do pretty fresh and I am jealous.

I hope your day turned out to be as happy as you look in today's picture.

Keep well. (Glad to see you bundled up).

    1. Thanks, Nana! I do feel an extra glow when I'm wearing something I really love. I almost feel guilty for dressing up, but I just can't do the alternative! It's not in my nature. Good for you - those kinds of things are important to your self-care!

Ha, ha, I have seen some of them! We'll certainly all appreciate our hairdressers when we can go back, won't we? Thanks! I've always coloured my own hair, and good thing I had a major chop just before the pandemic hit!

Thank you, my dear - it was lovely. Yes, mum, I wore a coat! ;-P

  4. Hey Sheila, beautiful Irish colours today! I love them. Isn't it interesting how comfy so-called "fancy" clothes can be? Your skirt is absolutely stunning and also easy to wear. I love clothing like that. The lacy green bomber is fab with it and your jewellery pulls everything together smoothly. Super outfit!

    1. Oh, I guess it is! I didn't even think of that, Juliana! Ha, I just wear what I like. This has been my argument for years - it's just as easy to be colourful and dressy and still be comfy! Thank you so much - I felt great in it.

  6. You probably are one of the few dressed up people left. I know I'm not, but mostly because I'm working from home and don't want cat hair and claw snags all over my nice work clothes. I always love the Gookey jacket!

  7. I often feel the same, and people seem to give me the side-eye even more than before. It's as if they think I'm crazy for dressing up at a time like this! So, it's such a breath of fresh air to come to blogland and see kindred souls doing the same. The Gookey jacket, of course, is an old favourite I love seeing again and again, but I'm absolutely head over heels with that swooshy orange polka dot skirt. For some reason, I went off polka dots for a while, but being simply irresistible, I am now fully embracing them again. I'm loving all your gorgeous, colourful bling too, with a special mention for the jelly necklace. Another old favourite! xxx P.S. Oh, and the shoes!

    1. I know, it's like we're supposed to be wearing dark, boring clothes! It's such a lift for me mentally when I dress up, as I'm sure it is for you, Ann. I know, I'm so relieved when I see people still dressing in bright colours and patterns. Thank gawd for us!

Oh, how could you have gone off polka dots?? I'm so glad you got over that, ha ha! Thank you so much - yes, the jello shot necklace is back for another year! That was $5 well spent!

  10. I am thoroughly smitten with this awesome colour palette. To me, it channels the tail end of summer, when there's still intense heat backed into the weather, but the first shifting signs of autumn's approach can be seen and felt as well. Gorgeous styling and palette composition, my sweet friend.

  12. I'd wear all of this exactly as you do Sheila - I particularly adore that zingy spotty skirt - what fun! It's a very strange time indeed and must be more so for you if you're in and not in to work like this. I'm so happy to see that you're keeping standards up dressing-wise!

    1. High praise, Anna! Thank you! The skirt is a firm favourite - I love polka dots. It is a weird schedule, but I like it - it keeps me from getting too slothful when I'm off!
