Teddy Sweater and the Christmas Tree Skirt

This is it, my friends! One more easy day tomorrow, and then I am off.

Today's outfit was a hit. Of course it was!
Who wouldn't love a teddy bear sweater, and a skirt that looks like I nicked it from under my Christmas tree?

  • Top - H&M, consignment; last worn here in October with my October skirt (how appropriate)
  • Skirt - handmade, vintage 60s, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) right around this holiday time in December 2017
  • Shoes - Aldo, thrifted; last worn here (5th outfit, past the closet pictures) in October with plaid pants
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather; last seen here a week ago

Today was busy, getting ready to shut things down in the office for nearly two weeks, so I opted for pure comfort.
It was like being hugged by a teddy bear all day. I let my coworkers pet my arms. So soft!

This is actually not a sweater; it's woven plush/faux fur, fully lined with a stretch polyester. It's WARM.
The skirt is such a crazy thing. I imagine a woman in the early 60s seeing a bunch of yards of this and thinking, "I know! I'll make a skirt for Christmas!" And then she wore it every year. Just like I do!

The fabric is woven of lurex and some sort of synthetic (nylon or polyester), and it's much softer and drapier than it looks. Here's a close-up.
The red roses feel fuzzy.

It is in good condition, although some of the lurex is fraying at the hem (Vizzini likes to lick it, weird cat).
Although the skirt is cut somewhat slim, I have plenty of room in it for walking.

Outerwear - I actually clipped up my hair and pinned it under my toque, almost as soon as I got outside. We are having major storms!
I can hear the wind howling outside now!

  • Fur toque/scarf/leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
Totally the perfect shoes, right? Gold heels! My feet were very happy in these after my recent bout of higher heels.

Spiky bling:
I wear this jewelry set once a year too.

  • Ring - Sarah Coventry, vintage shop, Powell River
  • Bracelet/earrings - Metropolitan Museum Gift Shop, NYC

Here's a better look.
As I noted last year (here) when I wore them:

I always think of this bracelet and earring set as Christmassy, but it's actually different stars, a compass point and a snowflake, all from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. I bought them in NYC ten years ago, in the Met gift shop - I first showed them on the blog here in June 2009. The bracelet is actually somewhat painful to wear - those points are sharp!

My friends, I will be back on Sunday with my weekend wrap-up. I know all of you will be busy over the holidays, doing your thing, but I just want to thank you all so much for reading, for visiting my world. I have met some amazing people here over the 10+ years I've been doing this, and have made some great friends. I appreciate every comment that you take the time to leave. I wish all of you peace, joy and good times, always.

    1. P.S., I had a dream last night. I dreamt I flew back and returned to Victoria to visit you and had a really good time. What made it special was you allowed me to wear my fancy new custom-made dress during our socializing and that freedom thrilled me to pieces. Thanks for the nice dream!

  6. What a fab skirt Sheila! I would like to steal it from you to wear with my lemon sweater with feather trimmed sleeves! I love your bracelet, I had one that was a little similar which I bought on holiday in Turkey many years ago and sadly it got stolen. It's lovely to wear jewelry at special times.

  8. Wow, Sheila, what a fabulously festive outfit. That skirt is simply amazing! It's lovely that you're wearing it each Christmas, maybe continuing a tradition started by its original owner. Love the shoes and your outerwear too. The fur toque and scarf are a wonderful contrast with the red. Have a great vacation, Sheila. Mine has just started and it feels slightly unreal ... xxx

  9. The damask pattern skirt is absolutely stunning Sheila. Yes to red and warm faux fur, or even the real thing if rescued from vintage,
Enjoy some wonderful days ahead of where you will not be observing your very busy work schedule.
    Happy holidays!
    Smashing outfit!
