With Bells On

Ah, deep breath - the weekend is nearly upon us. Am I ready for it?
Do you know the phrase, "With bells on"?

  • Sweater - Boohoo, thrifted; first worn here for my birthday in October
  • Trousers - Alexander McQueen, Fall 2003 collection, thrifted; last seen here in July with red checkers
  • Booties - Maleika Conquer, Fluevog; last worn here in October with the only wearing of that jacket
  • Coat (below) - Forever 21, thrifted; last worn last night here

It means "with extra enthusiasm", as in, "Will you be at the party on Saturday?"

"Oh yes! I'll be there with bells on!"*

Today, I wore all the bells. Bell sleeves, bell bottoms, and abstract bell shapes. Not literal bells.
My company holiday party is this Saturday, so I've been asking and answering that question all week. The next most frequent inquiry is, "What are you wearing??" I'm wearing this (spoiler alert!) here. I'm also loaning this dress here to my coworker, Samantha - she'll be my 3rd coworker to wear it!

Someone (it might have been me, but my day's a blur in the rearview mirror) said, "With bells on!" and I realized that I am actually wearing a lot of bell-like things. I love the ginormous bell sleeves on this pink sweater, for example.
And these bell-bottom-ish ALEXANDER MCQUEEN trousers! Aren't they fabulous?

This outfit had loads of admirers. Many of my coworkers noted how my hair and the sweater complemented each other so well.
That's my "get through this day" face. Game on! One more day! And Friday's are easy!

Outerwear - it was danged cold this morning, but I skipped the toque, scarf and gloves by the end of the day.
Grape Ape, twice in two days!

  • Fur toque, scarf (hidden), leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
Because the trousers are hugely long, I have to wear quite a high heel with them. These platform booties were perfect, even though you can only see the toes peeking out. Comfy, too!

Bell bling:
I actually built the outfit around the necklace. The pendant pieces look like bells, kind of.

  • Necklace - vintage fair; purchased here for $22.00 - first wearing
  • Crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Crystal/gold ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Earrings - Lazy Susan's

Well, my friends, the weekend calls - I have oodles of plans, including said party, so I will be back on Sunday with my and L's swanky outfits to show you. Peace out!

*If you're a word nerd like me, here's the origin of this English idiom.

  12. You have certainly got ALL the bells on! I was going to mention about your hair and sweater coordinating very nicely. Those are great trousers.

  13. It is indeed a perfect outfit. Alexander McQueen, my lord, you would never find such a thing in a second hand shop here. It is awesome. One little remark (never done this with you before..) I think pointy shoes would be better with these trousers. If you haven’t got pointy shoes high enough, you could simply have the trousers shortened a bit. Oh well, just my take on things.

PS, from experience: bell bottoms and pointy toed shoes make you fall a lot. Quite dangerous. Maybe my suggestion wasn’t that good😂

    1. You don't see it much here, either, Greetje! I agree, pointy shoes would be better, but I'm limited by needing to wear a really high heel or platform with them. No way am I ever tailoring a real piece of McQueeen!!

LOL, oh, I am aware of the perils of bell-bottoms - do you remember my Danger Pants? Thanks, Greetje! I love your comments.

  14. I had not noticed that the trousers were also wide legged. This looks so good. I don't know if I had mentioned it before but OMG YOUR HAIR looks fabulous in that shade.
