Weekend Wrap-Up: Thousand-Dollar Sweater, Tiger Brunch, and Cat Pictures

This is my last quiet weekend of 2018, so we took advantage of it by...doing nothing.
Well, board games, brunch and cat-cuddling. That's pretty mellow - no bigass here.

  • Sweater - J. Crew Collection, thrifted; first worn here in May with grey pleats
  • Blouse - Renuar, thrifted; last seen here in September layered under velvet
  • Jeans - Levi Strauss, thrifted; last seen here in October with sparkles
  • Shoes - Hispanitas; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November with mustard and monkey arms
  • Suede coat (below) - Prosper & Devine, vintage mall; last worn here in March

A second wearing of my Thousand-Dollar Sweater (no kidding, it actually retailed for $1,400+). Most people at work thought this was all one piece, but I have a cream high-necked blouse layered under the sweater.
Layering is necessary due to all of the hand-sewn beads, plates, sequins and gewgaws on this sweater - it must weigh 5+ pounds at least!

Oh, and also needed for sweating - it's been a "glowy" week, shall we say.
Dressing down my swanky sweater with dark jeans. I liked this casual vibe.

Outerwear - I went full whackadoo.
 Friday face.

I popped out at lunch to do some Christmas shopping, and had four people comment on this fun suede jacket.

  • Fur scarf - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Gloves - Danier Leather

Action shot!
I can't resist clothes with movement.

The stuff:
These shoes only get comfier every time I wear them.

Sparkle bling:
Not much needed with all that bling on the sweater!

  • Earrings - Jacob
  • Crystal/silver ring - Soul Flower
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy

Vizzini has been very happy to have us home all weekend.
"Oh, are you home? I hadn't noticed."

We treated him to a new mousie toy.
"What deliciousness is this?"

We have to cut his mousies' ears, feet and tails off, as well as all tags.
"But those are the tastiest bits!"

Vizzini is rather violent with his toys.
"I eat you! I eat you!"

We generally steer clear of him until he settles down.
"Stay away from my mousie, Woman!"

He can get a little bitey protective about it.
"Ah, the sweet catnip centre."

A few more twists and turns...
"Claw, bite, claw, rake...die, mousie!"

And then a few last licks.
"Ah, this one put up a fine fight."

Ready for a nap now, Vizzini?
"I might be..."
One mousie is good for a few hours of quiet.

On Saturday, L and I walked to down for brunch at Floyd's.
It was cool and brisk - a perfect day to break out my tiger dress!

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style. What are you waiting for? Go!

  • Dress - Kenzo, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit - and it's exactly this combo!) in December 2017
  • Boots - BCBG Max Azri; last seen here (2nd outfit) in November for brunch with velvet
  • Cape (below) -  Coracle Clothes, pass-along from S. Adams, vintage 60s; last worn here in November

I love the bright pink and the heavily-embroidered tiger head.
I'm not usually a fan of wearing logos front and centre, but this is such an unusual piece that I will happily make an exception.

I wore dark purple tights (matching the tiger) and over-the-knee boots to mitigate the shortness of the dress.
It's made of the thickest fleece you've ever felt, and it's HOT to wear. I was very glowy over lunch.

That bumps it up a grade, for sure.

Outerwear - it was the perfect day for a cape!
Both L and I had tons of comments from people as we walked around.

  • Gloves - Danier Leather
  • Purse - vintage, vintage fair

Why not dress up?
 Every day is an occasion!

The stuff:
 Good walking boots.

Shiny bling:
 Some old favourites.

  • Brooch - The Bay, c. 2002
  • Earrings - Aldo Accessories
  • Pearl ring - Erth, consignment
  • Amethyst ring - c. 1985, gift from Dad
  • Amethyst/gold ring - c. 1965, Frances Jewelers, Dad's

Last night, Vizzini chilled out beside me while we played board games.
"I call this Yellow Steel."

He does have quite a penetrating stare.
"I call this Sleeping Cat."

But he's cutest when he's sleeping!

  1. Vizzini is so cute! :) As pretty as that embellished top is, and I liked the way you layered it, I'm really loving the Kenzo dress and cape together, such a great combo! :) We had a quiet weekend also - not many of them before Christmas now!

    1. Oh, he knows it! Thanks so much, Mica! I liked that outfit too. I know, these quiet weekends are so precious.

  2. Gorgeous outfits -- love, love, love all the beading. And that cape is so beautifully designed --love the placement of the pcokets.

  3. Everyday is an occasion to dress up, I agree! I love the fringey jacket and clothes with movement too, especially fringey things. X

  4. Your thousand dollar sweater looks brilliant with the blouse beneath it, you absolutely rock those levis and I'm not surprised you were admired in your pink fringed beast of a jacket, it's a beauty!
The Kenzo dress looks fantastic with the Welsh wool cape, the colours look so good together.
Do you think Vizzini goes extra mad when you're both about? Stephen Squirrel acts like an absolutely crazy thing sometimes, we tell him he's showing off. I'm sure if he was like that all the time, frank would leave home!
Glad you had a chilled weekend! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Vix! Even though I didn't wear the dress/cape outfit for long, it still made an impact.

Oh, definitely - Vizzini leaves things alone when we are not around, and then as soon as we're home, he's back to being a little monster for our attention! Cats are such show-offs!

  5. I do love wearing a comfy sweater in colder weather - but I don't think I would pay that much for one!

  6. Love your sweater layered over a blouse, it looks fab (and comfy!) and love your jeans&sweater style, with the fringed jacket, so cool!!
And the hot pink dress is stunning, the color is magnificent and it looks so perfect with your cape!! Lots of fabulousness and attitude! and lovely purple accessories!
Vizzini looks adorable even when bitting that poor toy! and he rocks a 'yellow steel' look! ;DDD

    1. Thank you, Monica! I had fun with these outfits.

      Hee, he is so funny!

  7. Love that cape! So exciting. And while the sweater may be expensive, I believe the suede jacket steals the show. You look good in pieces with pizzazz.

    1. It totally does - the jacket is such a statement piece. Thanks, Ally - I totally agree. Give me pizzazz!

  8. I couldn't agree more: every day is an occasion to dress up! Why waste it wearing drab clothes? Love your mad fringe-tastic jacket and your Kenzo dress with the Welsh wool cape on top is utterly fabulous! Oh, that cape, it's the stuff of dreams, I'm sure. Isn't Vizzini funny? Phoebe does love a mousie too, but only if I play along! xxx

    1. Why would I even want to wear drab clothes? I just don't understand that. Thank you, Ann! I knew you would love the cape.

Ha, Phoebe sounds like she wants to play with YOU!

  9. Sylvester loves a new catnip toy too, and he will throw it around, pounce on it and lick it until it's an icky wet mess.

I think I would be afraid to wear that sweater - I'm sure it can't be cleaned with all the embellishments, and I am a stain magnet. The Kenzo dress is more my style, and at least it could be washed.

You have the coolest collection of outerwear! The fringed jacket and the welsh cape are both wonderful pieces.

    1. Oh, Vizzini's mousies are disgusting when he's done with them. Ugh.

I can't be afraid to wear something - it's just a thing and wear and tear happens. Besides, it's not like I paid $1,000 for it! I only paid $19.99!

Thank you! I love getting a few wears in of both of these fun pieces!

  10. I love how you integrate Vizzini's photos and commentary throughout your blog! We have three cats and I recognize many of his attitudes, postures and actions in ours. Of course, I enjoy seeing your creative outfits as well. Thank you for such an entertaining blog!

    1. He's part of my family, so he gets included. Aw, aren't kitties the best? Thank you so much for your sweet comment, Susan!

  11. I love Cats! We have two Mainecoons, they are just as dogs! Your Tiger dress and boots are fabulous!

  12. Once again, you've found some great pieces. As amazing as your $1000 top and fringe jacket are, I'm loving the Enzo dress<3!

  13. I cannot believe the original price of the sweater - outrageous! It is a gorgeous item though and I loved how you styled it. The pink Kenzo dress is lovely and I loved the pairing of the blue cape and blue handbag with it. It's so nice to have a quiet, stay at home weekend now and again.

Vizzini is a terror with his mousies - do they really have catnip inside them and is that why he gets in such a frenzy with them? Not having a cat I'm not very up on cat habits...

    1. You know I didn't pay that, Vronni! I only paid $19.99. Thank you so much - and yes, I so needed the quiet weekend!

Yes, most of the brands here come with catnip, or have a little pouch that you can stuff 'nip into.

  14. It's not often we see you in jeans Sheila, but these Levi's are the ultimate in cool. And the top, well it's awesomeness wows every time! The pink fringed jacket wins my vote as fave piece of the feature though - love that shimmy!

    Anna x

    1. Yeah, I really don't wear them that much, Anna. Thank you so much - I know, I LOVE that coat.

  15. Well you are certainly one of the cool girls in that sweater. I always wonder WHO buys these things at retail.
You know I never thought of it but its true, garments that are so intricate in the making, as beads, need to be layered so the need to wash is not that frequent. I do not know how it is in Canada but here humidity is crazy. Like I wore a skirt the other day and a few weeks later i want to wear it again and its covered in green fuzzy mold....
Oh and the Kenzo dress ... you wore it like a queen - marvellous layering.

    1. I know - who BUYS this at full price? If I layer things, I will rarely wash the outer piece unless I sweat in it. That's insane about the humidity there! Wow!
