West Coast Cowgirl

Last day for our VP in town, so I thought I'd give him a chuckle. He's from Calgary, aka Cow Town - home of the Calgary Stampede, and a city where the Canadian Tuxedo is not unusual at all
He loved it so much, he took a picture of me in front of the office Christmas tree.

  • Velvet blazer - Jacob, thrifted; last worn here in January with taupe
  • White shirt - no label, thrifted; last seen here in September with a jammy coat
  • Skirt - Mondi, vintage 80s, vintage fair; last worn here in November 2017 with green
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) on a November weekend
  • Leather jacket (below) - Danier Leather, thrifted; last worn here in November

The dudes in my office are encouraged to wear a tie when VPs are in town (I run the office of a tech company office of about 200 people - not a lot of ties going on usually), so I played with that variation. I built my whole outfit around my new-to-me bolo tie.
Bolo ties restrict the type of shirt you can wear with them - I have a couple of plain shirts like this white one for these kinds of situations. Sometimes you just need a plain shirt.

Then a blazer looks nice over that (good for temperature control too - I have been hot-flashing all over the place this week). I wore it open like this all day.
 Hmmm...what skirt shall I wear?

I think the silver lame (lah-MAY, darlings!) one?
Oh yes, indeed! This skirt is wonderfully swooshy and soft to wear, even though it's 18% metal.

"Where the heck is Friday?" face.
I only wore the velvet blazer done up when it was under my coat, but I do like how it looks buttoned.

Outerwear - double blazer! This is why it's handy sometimes to have your coats be a little big: it makes them easier to get on over blazers.
Plus my furry accoutrements. It started raining again on the way home, so I tucked my hair into my toque.

  • Fur toque/scarf/leather gloves - Danier Leather

The stuff:
I wore my boots all day, including walking to and from work. I don't usually wear these to work (maybe on a casual Friday), but I felt they added much-needed authenticity to my West Coast cowgirl look.

Cowgirl bling:
You knew I'd be wearing both Shi Studio pieces together, didn't you??

  • Leather belt - Leatherworld
  • Buckle - Shi Studio
  • Bolo tie - Shi Studio, thrifted; purchased here for $7.00
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. I love it! Agirl can never have too much silver lame! I've been wearing my tall boots a lot lately at work, this dodgy rainy weather is getting to me, but it is better than snow. I have to say you've helped me up my fashion game, I'm mixing patterns & colours, visiting consignment stores more regularly and finding nice stuff!

  4. I am loving this Sheila - what a fun skirt and the VP reaction was so good too! I was in a meeting today wearing a big crystal statement necklace and the very much more senior person kept commenting on it, haha! She loved it. It's nice when people appreciate the outfits we wear! :)

    1. Thanks, Mica! Isn't it amazing when you can bring a little sunshine into someone's life, or even encourage them to try it too? Great story.

  6. I'm not surprised your VP wanted to take your photograph. That outfit is fantastic, and I'm sure you've turned many heads yesterday, not only your VP's! That silver lah-MAY skirt is satisfyingly wacky, and if you want to be a cowgirl, Western style boots are the only right choice, aren't they? And yes, I knew you would be wearing both Shi Studio pieces together! xxx

  8. OMG that skirt is awesome! Great accessorizing too Shiela and of course you had to wear both of those together. The jacket looks lovely buttoned up, but there again I do like that finished look, even over a crazy skirt like this.

    1. It's such a fun piece to wear, Anna. Thank you! I like the jacket buttoned up too - maybe if it were colder out.

  9. I do love a good cowgirl look! I'm sure you brightened the VP's day. I love wearing boots and sometimes come off as a bit cowgirl-ish. I've been told by students that I look like a pirate and a cowgirl on different occasions and I take it as a compliment! X
