Oct 23rd - Outfit #23 - A Winning Combo

In looking at my handy-dandy tracking spreadsheet, I've just realized that every single time I've worn this blouse this month, it's been with this skirt.
Of course, I don't have any other solid-coloured skirt in the capsule that goes with this blouse, so I guess that's to be expected.

Anyway, I last wore the blouse and the red pencil skirt together here with my orange velvet blazer over it. I previously wore them both together here (2nd outfit) - even the shoes are the same there! At least I'm wearing different black patterned tights every time.
The shoes were last worn here, with my barn skirt. I actually liked this simple blouse and skirt combination. I went with heavier accessories: my braided black leather belt, my rocker chick necklace and matching earrings (and of course, a finger party).

Hey, if it works, it's all good.

Sadly, this red pencil skirt is not going to remain in my wardrobe after this capsule. It's become a wrinkle-monster, and I spilled some salad dressing on it a few weeks ago, and haven't been able to get it out. And yes, I've tried Folex, talc, soaking it, washing it, spot washing it, corn starch. It's some kind of indelible salad dressing. Besides, it's photographing too pink, which means it has too much of a blue undertone and not enough of an orange one for my taste.

I'm kind of bummed. I thought my red vintage suede pencil skirt (from my March capsule) was It, but it unzipped on me every time I sat down. Suede or possibly wool is my ideal composition, and pencil is definitely the cut, though, so I'll keep looking at the thrift/consignment stores.

The search for the perfect red pencil skirt continues...

Blouse (Marcona, thrifted), skirt (Jacob, thrifted), shoes (QTee Minis, Fluevog, consignment), belt (Gap), necklace (gift from Tina), earrings (gift from Megan Mae), my usual rings (snake, spider, silver/red).

  1. I love this outfit, Sheila. The hose and shoes are awes!! Sorry about the unzipping skirt. I hate to get something that would otherwise be perfect, but have to acknowledge a fatal flaw in it!

  2. The hunt is fun, at least! Love this blouse with a fitted skirt and those cool shoes.

  3. I think, for gentle pattern mixing, this shirt would go with yesterday's plaid skirt, esp if tempered by a solid belt and cardi or jacket...

  4. Shame you're not going to keep the pencil skirt after your challenge. It looks really nice, I hope you can find a better replacement one :) I do really like the bold colour against the printed blouse :)

  5. Hey Sheila, so sorry about the salad dressing on your skirt. Just one more suggestion, Spray and Wash, that stuff gets out anything even oil! But if the skirt isn't the right color for you then I guess it doesn't matter.
That blouse/skirt combo looks completely different each time you've worn it. I especially like it with the blazer. It's really amazing how an outfit can change just by wearing the blouse tucked in or out, tossing a sweater over it or switching out accessories.

  6. I have been lurking for a long time. Love your blog! I am ready for my first Fluevogs and think you may have had an influence. :)
As far as removing a grease stain, I use Sunlight laundry bar soap. Red wine and other such fun gets Amway LOC multi purpose cleaner [no I do not sell the stuff!] It just works.

  8. I do like the combo, but I understand about the skirt. Just gives you an excuse to head out on more shopping adventures right? :)

  9. Of all your blouses, this is still my favourite, so good luck in finding a skirt to go with the blouse - it may not be red, so don't get caught in the red rack at the shop. Peg - UI

  10. I've loved this combo everytime you've worm it!! Such a shame about the skirt, though!!
I'm still looking for the perfect denim skirt myself. I love your trumpet one and want one similar to it!

  11. I've been hunting the perfect red skirt. I think I've found it but the lining needs to be tacked down. Red skirts are one of those easy-in-theory, impossible-to-find pieces - like good black pants.

  12. The perfection of your Mini Q-Tees with Awesome Blouse just about knocks me over! Add the tights to the perfect list too, love the combination of pattern scale. I have every faith that the perfect red pencil skirt will yet find its way to you.

  13. Could you not get the zip replaced in the suede one, then?

    1. Jo, I am so colossally lazy, it would just sit there for years making me feel guilty before I would MAYBE get around to doing that. But yes, I could have. But no, I didn't. :-)
