Jul 11th - Outfits #11 and 12 - Zig-Zag, Turquoise and Lyle Lovett

Woo! I'm excited: tonight L and I are off to see Lyle Lovett! We're big fans, but have never seen him live.

I'm also excited because I've been wanting to wear this combination since I planned this capsule:
This is my turquoise dress again, last worn here on my Nerdy Mission. It's just lovely in warm weather.I'm wearing a black camisole with sequins under it (not part of the capsule).

The zigzag cardigan is a fresh item in June's capsule.
I thrifted this at the St. Vincent de Paul back in September 2011 for - get ready - $3.00. It's Le Chateau and is a poly blend. I wore it nearly identically here when I first got it, and also here (3rd outfit) back in January, going with the blue instead of turquoise as the "base" colour.

The stuff:
Everyone loves the zipper rose
The black sandals make another appearance (last worn here).

This is my first wear of this awesome black suede fringe-tie belt. It's vintage...I'd say late 80s/early 90s and is also Le Chateau - bonus: it's made in Canada! Yay! I paid $10.00 for it at a local vintage fair back in the winter. I don't know why I haven't worn it before now - not feeling as creative, I guess!

Cardigan (Le Chateau, thrifted), dress (no label, thrifted), shoes (Jones New York, consignment), belt (Le Chateau, vintage 80s/90s), zipper rose (Victoria & Albert Museum Gift Shop).

For the concert tonight, I wanted to be able to regulate my temperature for the walk down/home and being in the theatre (sometimes hot, sometimes cold, you never know). I'll take some pictures of the Royal Theatre tonight - it's a beautiful old vintage building.

So, I'm still wearing the turquoise jersey dress, but I removed the cardigan, added the same chain belt as yesterday, and put on my gold sandals for walkin'.
Left on the cami.

Even when it's hot here, it always cools off at night from being on the ocean. It's very rare that you wouldn't need a jacket or sweater in the evening. The black boyfriend jacket (last worn here, 1st outfit) saves the day!
And I can cover just my shoulders if I need to.

It's also a good physical sunblock for my very burnable skin.
I'm all ready for a nice mellow evening.

I wanted to wear this jewelry set L bought me about 5 years ago:
I know he bought the set of bracelet and clip-on earrings in an antique shop. I think it's from India. The gold and silver are incised into the metal "plates" which are locked onto their backing. I always love a safety chain on a bracelet. I'm sure the set is vintage, but what decade? I think early 60s.

Dress (no label, thrifted), jacket (Banana Republic, thrifted), shoes (consignment), belt (vintage 60s/70s, Mom's), jewelry (vintage, gift from L).

  2. This is a very pretty look. I have a hard time doing capsule challenges...although I really want to give it a whirl sometime soon.

I also want to tell you that I really like the name of your blog!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! It seemed like a very appropriate name, given the ephemeral nature of style and fashion.

  3. Beautiful day to date look! The turquoise is smashing, and that sweater is the reason we all thrift :) The bracelet and earrings set are so lovely and perfect for this outfit.

  4. I've never noticed this cardigan before until you've paired with with this dress! It's lovely together. I saw Lyle Lovett in concert with the KC Symphony a couple of years ago. The concert was open air in the Flint Hills and cowboys choreographed cattle to the music, believe it or not!

  5. Lovin' that zig zag sweater! And I totally remember the style of jewelry L bought you. I had a ring years ago that my aunt gave me. She lived in Vancouver, BC at the time. Maybe this is the other part to her set. ;)

  15. I remember this type of jewelery when I was a kid there was a shop at a local mall called Bombay. I thought the things in there were so exotic. I bought my mother a similar set for Christmas once. She never liked it because I guess 'exotic' wasn't her taste.
I have it now and love it. I bought it for her in 1963 and it was from India.

    1. How cool, Adrienne! That's about the timeline I was thinking for my jewelry.

  16. That's a lovely vintage jewelry set and I believe it's Damascene jewelry from Toledo, Spain. I have a similar set from the mid 70s but that kind of metalwork has been made for a long time and is still being made today. It was a popular souvenir from Spain in the 1960s and 1970s, but I bought mine new at a store in the US in the 70s.

I really enjoy your blog! You have such a great sense of style and I love seeing how you put outfits together. I've been in Weight Watchers for 22 months now and at goal for more than a year, so I do enjoy hearing about your going to meetings, etc.

    1. Mary, thank you so much for that info! I think mine is not real Damascene, but made in India as Adrienne notes above - just in the Damascene style, not the real deal.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Great work on hitting your goal!
