Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Fringed Friday and Dries Circle; Statement Skirt at John's Place; Blue and Orange Winesday Business Burritos

Welcome back, Gentle Readers! I hope you had a smashingly fun weekend. I know I did, so let's get right to it and look at some clothes!

This is Friday's office outfit - I also went out to a pub after work to fete a now-retired colleague.
I wanted to wear my Dries Van Noten circle skirt, as well as my awesome upcycled jean jacket. Why not put them together?

  • Jean jacket - RicochetJackets, upcycled, consignment; first worn here a week ago for Mom-Day at Willows Beach
  • T-shirt - Cynthia Rowley, thrifted; purchased here yesterday for $6.95
  • Skirt - Dries Van Noten, consignment; last seen here in June 2022 for a Mom-Day in Sidney
  • Sandals - Chie Mihara; last worn here earlier this month with the Coffee Rings dress

I ran an errand during the day, and a passerby said, "You look beautiful!"
Aw, people can be so nice.

I wore my new-to-me basic tee under the jacket, after trying a few different tops and nothing quite working.
And this is why I like a white tee.

I showed off the jacket to my coworkers who were suitably impressed.
Which is to say, not at all. I'm so grateful to my fashion-loving blog readers, fellow bloggers and friends!

Without the jacket, which I did take off a few times.
I went with a neutral belt and shoes.

Incognito.
I love the fringe of tassels on the jacket. I like to pet them.

The stuff:
Platforms that are actually flatforms! I ran for the bus home!

Purple bling:
The triangular and center oval glass beads are Venetian glass and are vintage, from a broken old necklace that belonged to one of my great-grandmothers on Mom's side, so they are at least 75+ years old. I added the purple ball beads and all gold beads, and restrung this myself many years ago.

  • Belt and buckle - Shi Studios
  • Brass/glass Brutalist ring - Raphael Canada, vintage 70s, consignment, gift from L
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Necklace - remixed by me
  • Earrings - Kate Spade, consignment

After an evening of music and board-games, L and I got ready to meet Nick for brunch at John's Place, a local diner we haven't been to in ages. I first went there in 1985! About them here (link 'cause I love their food, and you would too).
Our lovely server remembered us, me from my old Weight Watchers days as a leader. What a sweetheart!

  • Blouse - J. Crew, thrifted; last seen here in August 2022 with my Picador Skirt
  • Skirt - Hooper, Austrian, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in June 2022 for a Mom-Day Adventure
  • Shoes - Geox, thrifted; first seen here earlier this month for a day with Mom at Swan Lake

L and I grocery shopped afterward - just a short jaunt out and about for a few things for Chris and Ali coming over for an evening of "Arkham Horror" (a big complicated board game).
But onto the clothes! I played with all the colours in this gorgeous vintage skirt - isn't it amazing?

Green in the pattern in the form of this silk blouse, which has little fuzzy dots all over it.
I matched the red shoes to the red lining.

And orange belt because orange, duh.
I love a big statement skirt. This is thick double-knit polyester, and was just right for a windy, not-too-warm day.

Incognito - I'm even a blur.
Probably talking to L.

The stuff:
A sparkly lady at the drugstore admired my puffy purse.

  • Purse - no label, consignment
  • Leather belt - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Chain cuff - consignment; purchased here for $12.00
  • Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Orange plastic cuff/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment

We had a blast hanging out with Chris and Ali, and L and I crashed when they left in the wee hours. I enjoyed a sleep-in before heading to town (with a stop or two on the way) to meet up with the Winesday Women for a quick business meeting.
Business meeting? We have plans underway for the coming weekend, and had to discuss and settle some stuff.

  • Jacket - Dolce & Gabbana, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in June with a pouf and Docs
  • Silk top - no label, thrifted; purchased here for $9.97
  • Skirt - H&M, thrifted; last seen here in August 2022 with neon bookends
  • Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) a couple of weeks ago with pink and orange

I strolled down a little early, as there was another bracelet/cuff at Vanity Fair Antique Mall that I'd eyed, but not bought. I had to look at it again. I did not buy it - it wasn't quite right and was too rich for me.
Shopping my closet and making outfits with new-to-me things.

The orange silk top is the new item.
It matches my orange shoes so well.

It was just a matter of finding a skirt to put in the middle.
And then the lighter blue denim studded jacket for sun coverage.

Without the jacket, although I never took it off.
The gals and I met up at Tacofino. I ordered burritos for dinner for L and I to go - he picked me up afterwards.

Incognito.
I think my friends will spot me, though!

The stuff:
I walked to WIN on Pandora Ave, and browsed around until it closed - Caro found me poking around.

Blue bling:
I'd forgotten about the silver and fire opal pendant that Mom brought me back from one of her overseas adventures to Australia years ago.

  • Purse - no label, consignment
  • Silver/opal pendant - gift from Mom
  • Earrings local
  • Glass stone bangle - vintage 1920s, vintage mall
  • Eelskin bangle - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Silver/lapis lazuli ring and Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

I had done the entire WIN store recently, so it was a little soon to re-shop there - I like to space out my visits so that I don't see the same things over and over. It takes about a month for the store to turn over.

I did find this twin to a burgundy one (pic link here, post link here ) I found in June 2022 for $6.95 only not as ginormous. I let go of the burgundy one in the last giveaway round, as it was too big!
I'm much happier with this smaller blue/gold/turquoise/green scarf - it's smaller, a better pattern, and interesting colours.

It's also Pierre Cardin, and likely 100% wool (feels like it) and made in Japan, same as the previous scarf.
And only $3.95? That's a steal!

I spotted this top in the short-sleeved shirt section, just as we were getting ready to check out. I thought it was kind of odd.
A high-necked lace yoke and paneled inserts...with stripes? Sure!

Even the back is nice.
I'm not sure about the stripes - I am not usually into this sort of top.

I was sold when I saw it was a Scotch & Soda (a lower-end line of Maison Scotch), and was only $6.95.
Made in India, and "Amsterdams Blauw" is their denim line (blauw meaning "blue" in Dutch). There were zero images of this top online, so I suspect it's from the early 00s - but a top with that handmade lace would have retailed easily over $150.00!

Whew! What a busy weekend! And now, off to enjoy the waning hours of it with my fam. I hope you all had a lovely few days - thank you so much for stopping by!

  1. What a fantastic sounding weekend! I'm not surprised your friends were impressed with the denim jacket, it really is something else.
Isn't lovely when you get complimented by strangers, particularly women ? Its such a lovely boost!
The vintage maxi skirt is fabulous, I'd happily give that beauty a home! xxx

    1. Yes, it's always such a rush to get a compliment - and yes, they do seem to mean more coming from women! Thanks so much Vix!

  2. The outfit with the maxi skirt is so stunning. I love the combination of colours.
Gorgeous outfits, all of them. The jacket in the first outfit is just wow.
Great finds, too! The striped blouse is a beauty!

  3. Wow, all three skirts are interesting and colorful pieces, though if I had to choose I’d take the short blue skirt in a heartbeat! Probably because I’m looking for comfortable short summer skirts, somewhat like the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, where all of a sudden you see the thing that you are thinking of buying or just bought all over the place. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch but I just learned the name for this phenomenon and was determined to find a place to use it!

The WIN find of the striped top with lace is super for its unusualness! Such visual interest! Definitely looking forward to seeing how you style it.

Appreciating the jewelry for all three outfits and especially for the shorter skirt. The silvers and blues resonate and all pieces are ones that speak softly while having big impact. Finally, the shoes! Each pair is perfect!

Eager to hear what’s up next weekend with your Winesday group. (Patience, Laurie!) Till the , here’s to a wonderful week!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Ha, I didn't even realize it was 3 skirts until you mentioned it, Laurie! I have never heard of Baader-Meinhof (off down the rabbit hole I go!), but that makes total sense to me.

It was such an unusual top - and for $6.95 I couldn't go wrong. Aw, I so appreciate that you see and comment on every detail, thank you.

Ha, we are all headed to Vancouver for the weekend. I am both excited and full of dread. :D

    2. Understood :) Something tells me you will all have a fabulously enjoyable adventure and the dread will dissipate.

    3. Well, we'll see - the ferries are a bit of a mess right now, so I'm really happy we have reservations!

  4. What fabulous outfits, Sheila! I can't decided whether Friday's or Saturday's outfit is my favourite. I may be slightly biased on the Dries skirt, which found its perfect match in the upcycled denim jacket. Can't believe it hardly got any love from your co-workers, though!
On the other hand, Saturday's vintage skirt is such a stunner, and I absolutely love how you picked up all its colours with the blouse, shoes and belt! xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! My coworkers are so used to my style, they never even blink at any of my outfits, sigh. I adore the Saturday skirt!

  5. *goes and searches eBay for Scotch and Soda striped top*
Your outfits are really gorgeous. I adore the denim jacket that you have customised. It is brilliantly striking and you deserve the compliments. I really like the combination of one plain top and then a patterned skirt in all these outfits. They just sing!!!

    1. I hope you find one! Aw, thank you so much, Kezzie! I cannot take credit for the denim jacket - I bought it decorated like that. Thank you!

  6. Both the jacket and the skirt of the first outfit are treasures. Me, being me, wouldn't have combined them, but you being you, certainly did.
