Two-Fer: Monday Roses and Concert: Tuesday Jammy Dress and Cobalt Cardi

And I'm back!

On Monday night, L and I went to a concert! Jason Isbell came to Victoria for the first time ever, with opening act Kathleen Edwards (article from local paper here about the show, all links 'cause I love).
I was tempted to do separate outfits for the show and work, but time was tight, so this ensemble did double duty.

  • Embroidered moto jacket - Frank Lyman; last worn here (2nd outfit) in October 2022 with stripes
  • Bodysuit - Escada by Margaretha Ley, vintage 90s, thrifted; first seen here in April 2022 under a black suit
  • Skirt - Richard Quinn x Debenhams, consignment; last worn here in August 2022 with white
  • Shoes - Asos, consignment; last seen here in December 2022 with tartan trousers
  • Welsh poncho (below) - vintage, thrifted; last worn here in October 2022

I built the look around this long rose-patterned pencil skirt, which has been overdue a wearing in my fall/winter season.
I hadn't realized until I looked up the "last worn" that this is only the second wearing of my red Escada bodysuit.

The jacket is a rare retail buy, via gift cards years ago.
It's lushly embroidered faux leather.

All the studs are actual disco balls - they rip my hair out, so I always have to wear it up.
Such great detail.

I took the jacket off a few times at work, for dinner and at the theatre.
I also wore it just on my shoulders while I swanked around in the box seats at the theatre.

Done up.
I ended up not wearing the poncho in the evening - I would have if we'd walked home.

Incognito poncho-wearer!
Spring is in the air - I need to move some stuff around in my coat closet and store away my fur.

Accoutrements:
I also wore the scarf tied around my neck in a jaunty way.

  • Purse (above) - Danier, thrifted
  • Scarf - Smoking Lily, vintage 90s, consignment; purchased here for $15.00
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
Comfy shoes for a long day. I wore them for 15 hours.

Badass bling:
Lots of armour for being around people.

  • Belt - gift from Ruth
  • Crystal heart bracelet - Juicy Couture, consignment
  • Silver/malachite bangle - Mexican, thrifted, Sidney
  • Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/onyx ring - Tocara, vintage fair

After work, I bused home, fed Vizzini and then L and I drove back to town to meet up with some of L's former coworkers and their spouses for dinner.

From there, we walked up to the Royal Theatre for the show. I got my tour shirt, which I missed out on the first time we saw Jason Isbell in Portland, Oregon, back here in September 2017. Wow, that trip still feels recent, but it's been 5.5 years!
Both L and I bought the pink shirt with the white logo. I think I might actually wear this for a weekend outfit. It was $50 - thanks, L!

We ran into so many people we knew at the concert - of course, everyone spotted us, as we were in a box again!
We were in the mirror seats here.

The majestic Royal Theatre.
We were not permitted to take pics during the show. We enjoyed Kathleen Edwards - I didn't know any of her songs, although she's somewhat famous here in her native Canada (link to her site here).

I was very excited to see Jason Isbell again - I didn't know his music when we first saw him in 2017, as we were primarily at his show to see his opener, Frank Turner. Since then, L has picked up most of his albums, along with those of his his previous band, the Drive-By Truckers, so I'm fully immersed in his songs now.

Y'all may recall that I am a huge fan of "If We Were Vampires" (I encourage you to check out the song here and enjoy our "Vampire Anniversary" here).
But as the 1 hour, 40+ minute show went on...no "Vampires"! I was getting concerned! My favourite song! What if he doesn't sing it?

The encore came...they were slow coming out, and performed one song. "I usually do a rock & rollin' song," he said...as I (and several other audience members) shouted for their songs. And then they launched into a heartbreakingly atmospheric version of "Vampires." I sang along, tears rolling down my cheeks (you'll get it if you listen to the lyrics).

As soon as it was over, we ducked out the side door (one of the advantages of being in a loge/box is your own private stairway!), and headed home to our cranky kitty. How dare we be 2.5 hours late with his kitty treats!

Knowing I'd be emotionally wrung out and tired this morning, I planned an easy-peasy outfit
Jammy dress! This "urban camo" dress is a workhorse in my wardrobe - I'm on the 17th wearing of it, which is a lot of times for a dress!

  • Cardigan - Ports, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here in December 2022 over a striped dress
  • Dress - Dept, thrifted; last seen here in November 2021 with orange and blue
  • Boots - Clarks; last worn here in January with my Murder Mystery dress
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; last seen here in February

But I don't think I've ever worn it with this cobalt blue cardi - obviously an oversight!
This is a 100% wool cardi from the 80s - it is a miracle that the moths haven't gotten to it. I thank the Closet Gods!

Tuesday means an office full of people, which is welcome.
So nice to chat and show off my outfit!

And I didn't even feel like I was wearing "real" clothes.
That's the miracle of jammy dresses.

Without the cardi, although I never took it off. The blue lace you see peeking out is a vintage full slip.
I love the Urban Camo pattern of this dress - it goes with a lot, which is why it's lasted so long in my closet.

"Wait, you forgot your sunglasses."
I usually have to carry my cardi to work in a separate bag, as I hate it creeping up on my under a coat, but I had no issues with it this time.

There we go.
Snug as a bug in a vintage 1970s Halston fleece-lined Ultrasuede!

Accoutrements:
Such a dramatic colour combination.

  • Scarf - Vera, vintage 90s, Mom's
  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
These boots are starting to feel high for my feet. I'll be keeping my eyes out for a lower-heeled caramel boot now.

Minimal bling:
My treasured thrifted Fendi belt.

  • Belt - Fendi, thrifted; last worn here in January
  • Earrings - local
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. What a treat to visit the concert in that box and what a beautiful theatre. I don't know the artist, will listen to the music after reading this. Your outfit is superb! Also your second outfit, I love that colour combination! Have a great day!

  2. I know Muscle Shoals but am not familiar with Jason Isbell so I shall investigate further. How swanky to have a box for the gig!
Loving the rock chick vibes of your first outfit and that delicious royal blue cardi is always a joy especially teamed with orange.
Gorgeous photo of you and L! xxx

    1. I had to look up Muscle Shoals! I love the boxes - they are not too much more than regular good seats, and I love being able to stretch out.

      Thanks so much, Vix!

  3. Ah, both of your outfits are gloriously colorful, which I love! So psyched that you and L venture out for concerts and meals with friends at restaurants. Am impressed that you two were out and about on a work night, but then again, why not!

Seeing your nice thick jammy dress belt reminds me a thick belt is on my list for precisely the same reason, to use with dresses.

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Me too, Laurie! It feels good - things are mostly back to "normal" here overall. I know, a "school night"! We were both exhausted yesterday, lol.

I love thick belts - a soft obi-style version is really nice too.

Thanks for the visit, Laurie! Hugs to you and Fred!

  4. Monday's office and concert outfit is perfect in every way. I do remember Drive-By Truckers, and I'll have a listen to Jason Isbell later. I remember having a Kathleen Edwards song on a compilation cd somewhere. Haven't been to a concert for a long time and I'm hearing you on being emotionally wrung out and tired the day after. Not that you'd notice that you were, as your easy-going jammy dress outfit is absolutely fabulous. I'm swooning over that massive belt whenever I see you wearing it! xxx

    1. Thanks so much, Ann! Wow, I'm surprised you've heard of Drive-By Truckers! I think you will like Jason Isbell, if so. It was so tiring - being out amongst people, the emotional rollercoaster of the concert, and then just life. Thank you - I love that belt too.

  5. I love that "leather" jacket, but I particularly admire the way the pattern on your hose "rhymes" with your earrings. And the cobalt blue sweater is a dream and looks great with the dress!

    1. Thanks, Poppy! I appreciate that you noticed that detail - I did pick the tights and earrings specifically because they went together so well.

  6. I'm glad you enjoyed the show and got to hear your favourite song! I really love the outfit you wore - perfect for both the concert and work! The day after outfit is my favourite though, that cardigan is just made for that dress!
