Velvet Faux and a Pencil Skirt Flashback

Today's ensemble is the result of a surge of outfit planning, to ensure I get wearings in of some of my favourite items, like this gorgeous Ted Baker skirt. I love it so much, we're going to have a Flashback on it!

I paired it with my new-to-me "FAUX" velvet t-shirt.

  • Jacket - Dolce & Gabbana menswear, consignment; last worn here in February with my periodontal armour
  • Velvet "Faux" tee - Forever 21, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Skirt - Ted Baker, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in June 2022 with pinks and blues
  • Velvet boots - Ishshoes Chatterbox, Fluevog; last worn here in November 2022 with Monday sunshine
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last seen here in February

Hilariously, the lettering on this tee does not show AT ALL in pictures. Proof here that it says, "FAUX" across the front.
I say "fox" when I talk about it, because I am silly like that.

I wore my D&G menswear jacket over it (minor Velvet Creep) for a sporty vibe.
I liked how it contrasted with the floral painty design on the skirt. Hard and soft.

Stripes!
My temperature varied throughout the day, so I took the jacket off a few times.

You can kind of see the FAUX there.
I think I'll keep the top out for spring/summer - it was fun to wear and I like the shiny velvet, but it can't be layered with anything or I'll get Velvet Rage.

Zipped up.
I only zipped it to put my sleeveless coat on.

It was sunny in the morning.
But grey by the early evening, so no sunglasses needed.

Accoutrements:
This scarf was soft and warm - love the bright colour. Thank you, Mom!

  • Scarf - Vera, vintage, Mom's, acquired here
  • Gloves - Parkhurst

The stuff:
These boots are still comfy for me to wear - I even gave a tour of the office and building in them.

Blue and silver bling:
I used the starburst pin to cover up the D&G logo on the jacket.

  • Brooch - Eaton's, c. 2001
  • Kyanite/silver ring - consignment
  • Sodalite/silver ring - Scotland, 1996
  • Fulvia Ring/lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Hinged cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Crystal bangle - Juicy Couture, consignment

And now...*drumroll*...a Flashback! It's been a while - life is busy.

Flashback: Ted Baker Abstract Floral Pencil Skirt

This pencil skirt was purchased on one of our pre-pandemic massive Anniversary Weekends back here in March 2019. L and I always splurge on shopping when we go to Vancouver and that trip was no exception.
I was agog at the gorgeous pattern. This is called the Sinda skirt.

The fabric is a thick synthetic, almost a neoprene - it's very comfortable to wear.
There's a meagre slit at the back - it always rides up with when I'm walking.

I bought it at Turnabout on Main St in Vancouver, new with tags, so I could see that it retailed for $219.00.
Turnabout does constant markdowns to keep their stock from getting stale - I paid $47.99 for this.

I first wore it in April 2019, accompanied by Vizzini. That wonderful vintage wool sweater finally disintegrated a couple of years ago.
The salamander brooch broke - it's now permanently sewn to the Fuzzy Flamingo pink coat.

Trying out the skirt with pops of orange in September 2019.
I let go of that sweater (so sheer) but I still have everything else.

Having a snuggle with the Vizz-meister in November 2019, and wearing the same earrings and boots as today's outfit. If you're wondering, that's my hair all grown out to its natural colour.
I have a candy-pink blouse on (gone to the Great Giveaway Pile), and I've also let go of that Emporio Armani jacket.

Ah, one of my blue-hair phases - this is in the middle of the pandemic, May 2021.
There was a wearing pause while I cut back on the chocolate. My favourite clothes motivate me to behave myself and not eat all the chips and chocolate.

I love all the matchy in this June 2022 ensemble.
I'm definitely going to wear that jacket and skirt together again!

Mathy stuff: I've worn this skirt 6 times so far in 4 years, which brings my cost-per-wear to $8.00. That's solid, but I know I'll bring that down even further eventually. I keep it out all year.

  4. I loved the flashbacks, especially the last picture with the jabot (???) spilling out of the front of the jacket. I love the combination of edgy and prim! And thank baby cat jebus, I can finally leave a comment, even though I don't really have anything to say. Blogger was making me crazy! So I switched browsers, and here I am, nattering away about nothing. :D

  5. How versatile is that skirt?! All of your outfits are lovely, but my favourites (if forced to choose) are the ones where you've teamed it with the more casual sporty and denim jackets. I always think stripes and florals seem like an unlikely combination but always look incredible together.

  6. I bet that skirt's from the same collection as the Ted Baker dressing gown I scored the other week. I love it with the denim jacket and striped top, a fabulous outfit. xxx
