Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Adidas Plastic and a Thousand Nipples; Skater Tiger Dress; Tsarina Vest Brunch, and Art Project Update (Pink Fluevogs)

Welcome back, my friends! It's been a fairly quiet weekend here, but I still have three outfits to share, I bought a couple of scarves, and I worked on my latest art project. Whew, that seems like a lot. 

Let's get this party started with my Funky Friday outfit. 

I loved showing this jacket to people - you could hear it!

Yes, hear it - the thermoplastic sounds like a thick plastic bag being crumpled up. 

I enjoyed my "out there" ensemble, although it was a quiet day in the office and I didn't see too many people. 

This jacket represents another one of my growing Adidas collection (including my Stella McCartney jacket here, my weird mullet dress here and my tulle skirt here), and a slow lean into sporty looks. 

This jacket is an XS, can you believe it? It felt massive on. I was a little worried about it being overly warm, but it was fine. 

For its first wearing, I went with safe black and white - it's the return of the Dress of a Thousand Nipples! 

I ended up rolling the sleeve cuffs back once and wearing them shoved up on my arms like this, where they stuck tight. 

I layered a plain white tee and a short white slip underneath - it's a very sheer dress. 

I wore the outfit like this for a little while after I arrived at work, as I was glowing from running up the stairs.

Outerwear - I like to make sure my outer presentation is as fun as my underneath outfit. 

I got several comments on my look after work, when I indulged in a wee browse in some seldom-visited shops.

I enjoyed the Zen calm of browsing through Cheers/Csinos, a curated vintage collective store. So much stuff from the 90s (so hard to call that vintage!), including this scarf which was made only a few blocks away. 

This is one of Smoking Lily's original silk bug scarves, from c. 1996. I got one as a wedding shower gift - they were around $90 back then, as they were handmade and silkscreened by local awesome store Smoking Lily (link here 'cause I love - they ship!).

They started out in a tiny little store on Johnson Street (literally, it was the size of a closet), and these scarves are all they sold at first. They branched out into clothing - I've had tons of their stuff over the decades, and it's fabulous quality. 

I recently got a burgundy and black bug scarf via Mom's closet (this one), and enjoy a really early post from July 2009 here where I'm wearing my wedding shower gift gold/cream scarf - I even note at the end that I got it from Janet as a gift.

I also have a grosgrain ribbon-trimmed pink and chartreuse scarf from a bit later, maybe 1998ish, that I still love (post of a great outfit with it here). 

On Saturday, we met up with Nick for brunch at the Ruby. Time to sneak in an annual wearing of one of my treasured Kenzo pieces, this thick fleece skater dress. 

I went with maximum impact with my neon green lace-up boots - I even matched my tights!

I'm not a huge fan of the skater dress shape, but for this dress I make an exception.

Oh, I don't know - Kenzo?

It's been snug in the top since I bought it, but I love the thick warm fleece.

I always wear little athletic shorts under it for modesty (you can just see them here). That's a very short skirt! 

Outerwear - it's been cold and windy all weekend, but also sunny. 

Confusing weather! I had oodles of compliments on this look, particularly in the grocery store where people seemed to be extra chatty. 

Accoutrements: 

I realized once I'd already done my pics that my Missoni scarf (this one) would have been the perfect match. Next time!

L had to run an errand after brunch, so I popped back into Cheers/Csinos for a scarf that I'd put back the night before. Regret-me-not! 

I love the lime yellow, emerald green and navy blue Celtic-inspired print. It's 100% silk with hand-rolled/hand-sewn edges, and as you can see, it's by Bill Blass. The funky font was used in the 70s/80s - I think this this is from the 80s. It was $15.00. They have several scarves by him on 1stdibs for between $208 and $812 - yes, you read that right. 

L and I were up early on Sunday, after a late night of partying and board games on Saturday, to meet up with long-time old friends Steve and Bev at Floyd's Diner for brunch.

It was awesome to catch up with them - I haven't seen Bev in over 10 years!

Since we drove both ways, I was able to wear this plush sleeveless vest. 

I dubbed this my Tsarina vest when I first wore it, and it's tricky to wear. 

The weather has to be cold, but not too cold (since none of my coats fit over it). 

I need thick warm sleeves - this delightfully triply ruffled sweater is so good it's the only one I've worn with the vest so far. 

Such lovely embroidery. 

I liked that my sleeves and boots matched. 

I took the vest off while we ate and caught up. 

My "bark" skirt is still a favourite. 

I did up three of the 6 toggles down the front. 

The inside of the vest is all thick plush - so snuggly. 

Incognito. 

That's my pouting/annoyed face - who goes to all the trouble of making fake pockets and can't be bothered to put REAL pockets in a piece of outerwear? I demand pockets!

I spent my down-time on the weekend working on my pink Fluevogs - time for an update! 

Art Project: Pink Freedom Fluevogs

I last updated here, where I'd gotten to this point.

I'd drawn the lines, and added the circles. 

I added V-shapes to the circles, and now I'm colouring it all in black and grey.  

And it's looking so cool! The inspiration picture (in black and white) is in the background.

In progress. 

I start at the centre of each of the circles and then go from there. This is a pretty easy method for creating a pattern. Of course, I've messed up a couple of times, but eh, no one will notice. 

I sat on the couch under my electric throw, a cup of tea at the ready, when I felt like...someone had spotted me. 

"You look like you need a cat on your lap."

He watched me for a while. 

"Just in case you feel the urge to get up and give me treats."

He ended up sleeping on me under the blanket while I worked. And that, my friends, is a lovely thing.
