Bold Orange, and Reader Request Time!

I can tell the end of season is nearing, because I am feeling bored of my fall/winter wardrobe.
I paw listlessly at my skirts and jackets, trying to summon up energy to make outfits. Won't you help a gal out?

  • Jacket - Anthracite, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) for a stroll along Gorge Waterway with L in February
  • Dress - H&M, consignment; last seen here (and mislabeled as Zara) in January
  • Shoes - Wonders Ayers, Fluevog; last worn here with this same jacket in November 2022
  • Coat (below) - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment, Sidney; last seen here on the weekend

Clouds tinged with pink, and a wispy crescent of moon over the Castle.
It was cold out, but sunny and mostly clear all day. Some of the plum trees have started to bloom.

But here I am in fall/winter, grasping at colour.
A bold orange sweater dress getting another wearing.

I layered up this vintage 90s jacket over it for extra warmth.
Off, on, off, on - I changed it up all day.

Without the jacket.
I have a full vintage slip on under this - there's the wee-est peek of it at the top of the slit.

This dress was a good purchase.
But it will be put away for spring/summer. So many dresses, so little time.

Outerwear - I'd planned on wearing a cape with this, but it didn't fit over the jacket.
Then, as I was putting this coat on, a button flew off! I grabbed it, a needle and thread and stuffed them in my bag. I took a late afternoon break and sewed it back on.

Accoutrements:
The scarf looks like an exotic sea creature.

  • Scarf - vintage 90s, thrifted
  • Gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
I am fond of these shoes, which are 10 years old now.

Bronzy bling:
Some faves.

  • Belt - Suzi Roher, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Brass/copper cuff - Karen's
  • Cuff w/turquoise and pearls - Myka, consignment
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Brass ring - vintage mall

So - Gentle Readers! Help nudge me out of my wardrobe ennui by requesting what you'd like to see me wear for the next couple of weeks, until my Wardrobe Swap-Over (planned for early April).

I want your requests! They can be for specific items (shoes, skirts, dresses, accessories, whatever you want), colours, re-wears of full outfits, or interpretations of a theme. Suggest as many things as you like!

  1. Couple ideas:
    - oldest outfit: oldest pants, oldest top etc. combined from your winter wardrobe (unless the combination is really odd)
    - country theme: either flag colors or where clothes are made in. It seems that you're starting to have quite nice pieces from Finland for example ;)
    - inspirations from music videos

It's so nice that spring is coming and more light clothes can be dragged out from storage!

    Greetings from Finland!

    Best wishes,
    Maria

  3. This dress is simply perfect! Color, shape, style, all simply perfect.

Ooo, Maria’s ideas sound like fun possibilities. How about pattern mixing with items that haven’t been mixed together in the past. Taking your least favorite item (top or bottom) and pairing it with a much loved item (top or bottom) to see if doing so adds some love for the former.

The other item that sprang to mind are the boss lady jeans (memory says cream, a little blue and a little tan?) that you wore not that long ago. I really like those pants. Maybe style them with something you would never ordinarily choose, or that is definitely different from previously worn tops.

Looking forward to seeing reader suggestions and your choices unfold in outfits!

    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! I like your ideas too - those are challenging, for sure! I like those pants too - I know I can come up with something new for them!

  5. If you weren't already wearing it, I would have requested the Anthracite jacket! It looks amazing with the H&M sweater dress. A total mood-booster of an outfit!
I would love to see another outfit based around the wide legged blue and neon leopard trousers, unless you are keeping them out for Spring/Summer. Alternatively, any outfit featuring the orange Boss Lady pants, or the pleated L'Wren Scott blouse. xxx

    1. I am keeping those trousers out for spring, but I love the suggestion - it's on the list, as are the orange pants and the red blouse. Thanks, Ann!

  6. Firstly, I absolutely love this post’s outfit. I can completely fathom both fall (dark oranges, bronzes, olive greens) AND spring (turquoise, bright orange and yellow) themes in it. I know I am SO ready for those fresh colors to assert themselves through the mossier greens and grays of winter!
As for suggestions, I love Maria’s input, and I’ll add: what about color themes or outfits built around specific jewelry? Perhaps items with artistically significant prints on them (à la the matador skirt or ribcage sweater) as opposed to a mere pattern? Or items given to you by others/swaps?
I’m excited to see what everyone’s suggestions are and what you come up with from them!
    Yay! ReaderRita

  7. I'll chime in. If I remember correctly, you did one of these a couple of years ago but what about an outfit based on a scarf?

  8. The zingy orange dress and the groovy jacket! Fantastic!
So many clothes, I don't know what to suggest. I love Maria's suggestion of the Finnish skirt. I'd like to see that vest/waistcoat/gilet with the fake fur and the clasp fasteners, please! xxx

  9. Lots of great suggestions here so I won't add any, but I do get how you feel with the end of seasons approaching and feeling a bit uninspired. I'm ready for autumn weather, but we have had a later summer heatwave for most of March so far. It would be nice to layer again. Instead I went to the opshop and treated myself to a few summer pieces, haha! Just to get me motivated again until I can start thinking about jeans and scarves.

  10. This outfit is excellent. It is outstanding. Love it. OK, with the jacket it is rather official office gear but sometimes you need that too. To make an impression. The orange dress is a stunner on you and the shoes go so well.
    In my top 10.
