Mental Health Shop: Peacock, Jelly Deer, Green Lace and Trout Shoes

No Mom-Daughter day today, unfortunately, as Mom wasn't feeling up to it (nothing bad, just side effects from her PPS). Instead, I took advantage of a semi-sunny day and the start of my 5-day weekend and indulged in a Mental Health Shop

I had this skirt in mind when I woke up, so built the outfit around it.
Most people I saw gushed over my Trout shoes, but I also showed off the Peacock Jacket.

  • Peacock Jacket - /id collection/Peacock Jacket embellishments by me, thrifted; last worn here in March with Anna Sui
  • Jelly deer sweater - Kersh, print by Pena, thrifted; last seen here in May 2021 as Princess Jelly-deer
  • Skirt - Alfred Sung, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here in August 2021 with pink and plaid
  • Shoes - Miista; last seen here in February for a Mom-Day Adventure

I dressed for walking there and back, and for shopping.
I enjoyed the blue and green mix, with the bits of purple from the shoes and my freshly-coloured hair.
My hair's finally long enough to clip up again.

Without the jacket, although I only took it off when I was trying things on.
I've worn the Jelly-deer and this raggedly lace lame (lah-MAY, darlings!) skirt together before, in August 2019 (here).

Masked up - cases are on the rise again.
I masked up whenever I was in a store. I just don't want to get Covid, or give it to someone.

Incognito. No one will know it's me!
I liked the purple gloves - I'm in purple from fingertip to toe.

Accoutrements:
A good shopping bag and vintage suede gloves.

  • Purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Gloves - vintage, thrifted
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
My coworker called these "trout" (it's a car colour) when I first got them, which is nearly 50 wears ago!

  • Silver/aventurine ring - consignment
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver
I usually do minimal bling when I shop so it doesn't snag or get in the way.

I started at Good Things Consignment, a fabulous store on Oak Bay Ave that carries all kinds of household goods, purses, small furniture and jewelry. Today, I found this cool mirror with black and gold wood frame. Only $7.50!
They had a bunch of vintage copper, so I had to check it out.

I love this amazing statement necklace. It says "solid copper" on the hinge fastener.
I see myself! The ball in the center is actually a slightly squished sphere. This was $50.00.

I very seldom see copper rings, and they had two!
This one was $16.00.

And this one was $22..00.
The stone is glass, I think. I like the side pieces. All of these pieces are probably from the 1960s - real copper has only been popular that one time.

From Good Things, I strolled a couple of blocks down to Turnabout, where I discovered that the renovations have been done! New flooring, a warm soft pink on the walls, and some amazing new displays and seating - it looks fantastic!

I found a few treasures.
The giant pearl necklace has a very simple hook clasp, but the beads are all knotted and it sits nicely. It was $12.00.

The belt is an emerald green leather, lined with thick satin.
I love that the back of the slots for the tongue it's been reinforced. Quality!

It's by Lasso and was made in France.
It's vintage, likely from the 80s. I hear the cool kids are into wide belts again - and now I have a nice green one! This was around $28.00 (I can never remember the prices, and they cut the tags off, so I'm guessing based on the total bill).

I fell hard for this giant floor-length maxi skirt.
It's seriously swooshy too.

It makes a full circle!
You don't see that every day.

It has two ties attached on the side seams, and pulls on with that elastic waistband (nice and wide).
I like the mix of patterns. And it's got pockets!

This is the only tag on it - 100% cotton - so I'm going to have to name it or I'll never be able to find it.
I think this was around $79.00. I suspect it is not vintage - the sewing is not very neat - maybe from the 90s, as a tourist piece from somewhere hot?

I spotted this light coat on the sale rack.
Vizzini liked it too.

A better look. Beautifully lined-up pattern!
It is fully lined in burgundy - it's lightweight, so more like a long blazer-style coat, which how I'll probably wear it.

It's a Boss Lady Blazer!
The colours are rust, grey, burgundy and two stripes of mixed floral with brown, cream, orange and black.
It's a woven textile , and really pretty. I love the big heavy metal buttons.

It's got pockets!
The belt loops are there, but no belt. I'm going to cut them off.

It was made in Canada. The handwritten number is the CA number - this was made by Dreamstar Fashion Boutique, registered in 2002.
The 6 is the size.

The label says "Citrine" however.
Dreamstar might have been the parent company. There's nothing online about this, which is about right for 2002. This was marked down to $75.00.

Happy with my purchases, I crossed the Ave to Turnabout and had a good browse. Like at House of Savoy, I tried on between 12 and 18 items (shopping is hard work!), but only buy a few.

I really liked this dress - the print sold me, as well as the fit, which is kind of a flapper-ish shape.
I usually avoid any prints that have a white back-side - it looks cheap to me, but I let go of that this time.

I really appreciate a snap fastener at the cleavage.
Yes, thank you!

The skirt has four separate images on it, and all seem to hint at some sort of murder-mystery. I immediately thought of the game/movie Clue.
"Somewhere in Underground Montmarte" - Atelier Nr. 2, THE BASEMENT. Do you see the chameleon in the lower left?

"Somewhere in Tangiers, Morocco." Atelier Nr. 3, THE ROAD.
I spy a snake in the bottom left and a lobster in the upper right.

"Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere," at Altelier Nr. 1, THE BARN.
This is the weirdest murder-mystery ever!

And finally, "Somewhere in Parisian high society" - Atelier Nr. 4, THE VILLA.
So odd. It's a whodunnit!

Of course, it's Scotch & Soda by Maison Scotch.
"Dans la Nuit" means "In the night." This was $79.99. I spotted a couple on the interwebz for over $300!

I had tried this skirt on last time I was in Turnabout, but put it back because $149.95 was too expensive.
It's a lovely tweed in wool and mohair. Do you see the detail around the hem?

It's four rows of pointy "Christmas tree" studs.
Utterly badass.

It's by Miu Miu, made in Italy.
Marked down to $59.00. That's more like it.

Lovely to see the original content tag.
1stdibs has one in brown for $200 Canadian, noting that it was from the 2010s.

Miu Miu doesn't think much of Australians! Clearly, this says, "Do not wash, bleach and tumble dry" - I mean, it's right there.
So...why specific extra instructions "For Australia Only"? Those are literally the same instructions!

I was seduced by this black VELOUR (so danged KLASSY) evening leisure pajama set!
It was marked down from $89.99 to $27.00 for both the top and the velour pants.

This is all embroidery and beading and sequins on the front.
That shape is very late 90s/Y2K.

Check out the sides of the pants!
I feel like Dolly Parton in these!

The set is by Adrianna Papell's Evening Essentials.
That's very high Spandex content.

I promise you they will never leave the house!
They will be awesome for an evening of board games!

And with that, I'm now going to sign off for the long weekend. A very Happy Easter if that's your bag, and if not, a very happy weekend! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I love those irridescent trout shoes - and of course, the effing amazing peacock jacket!
How fabulous is your new jewellery? I love the arty shot with your bear;s head reflected in the mirror. I loathe white-backed fabric, too but would have made an exception for the dress - the print rocks! The cotton skirt is contemporary, they sell them on Colaba Causeway in Mumbai (or did when i was last there in Feb 2020) - the cotton is always super crisp.
You made me laugh over the velour jogging suit - my Mum used to go out in hers, I swear she only did it when I'd arranged to meet her in town just to show me up!
Have a fab long weekend, my dear friend (and Vizzini and L!) xxx

  2. The jelly deer and the peacock play well together, a nice combo! Your hauls from shopping had me nodding in agreement, in particular the copper necklace and rings, the boss lady jacket-coat, and the maxi skirt, which I was certain was going to open as wide-legged maxi pants (probably because that’s what I have a hankering for!)

Happy Easter to you, L, Vizzini and your Mom!

  3. Peacocks, jelly deer and trout: you're wearing a veritable menagerie there, Sheila! I love a green and blue mix, by the way!
Unlike me on today's shopping trip, you did well on your mental health shop. Loving the swooshy maxi skirt and the copper jewellery is absolutely stunning. Oh, and that coat is to die for too! I even love your velour "evening leisure pajama set", although I am relieved to hear you're not planning on wearing it outside the house! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Sheila! xxx

  4. Lovely outfit today - that jacket is a stunner! Good shopping haul especially the Mui Mui skirt - another major designer item in your closet. The 100% cotton skirt is cute - I like the black and white design of dots and stripes - reminds me of dots and dashes. So I would call the skirt the Dot Dot Dash Skirt! I love the Boss Lady Blazer too - looking forward to see what you wear it with. Happy Easter Long Weekend!

  5. I really like your blue and green outfit with that pretty blazer and you got so many great things shopping! I love the velour set! I still have my juicy couture sets from back in the day, perfect lazy loungewear, velour is so soft! :) Like you I don't wear it outside, and sadly mine doesn't have the fun sequins! I will email you back later today - just catching up on blogs before we have to go out for the day!

  6. As an Australian, I always appreciate extra instructions specifically for me. What is going on there???
I discovered your blog last year while in lockdown and enjoy it hugely. Thank you so much. Megan.

  9. That jacket is something to be proud of. Like you, I wear a mask in stores but now it seems I'm the only one left. People have given up trying to avoid the virus, even as we're dealing with more contagious strains. *sigh*

  10. I love how you combined the colours in this outfit to bring out the most out of every item. I always liked that Jelly Deer top and seeing it paired with that beautiful shiny green skirt is a joy. Your peacock jacket, a real work of art, matches beautifully both the top and the skirt. I love how the details on the peacock matches the pattern of the skirt. The shoes are very pretty too. I'm a big fan of this look!!!!

  13. I love the print on the pleated dress! The coat is lovely, as is the belt and necklace. I have a copper necklace with "solid copper" on the hinge that is likely from the same time period as yours. As much as I like copper, it's the only copper piece in my jewellery collection - I'm envious of your beautiful vintage pieces.

  16. What wonderful, wonderful finds! I think my favourite has to be the coat with the fab buttons and the amazing copper jewellery. The PJs/Leisure suit in black velour is scrumptious and I would wear it out with pride. Love the Murder Mystery dress and the fabulous cotton skirt. How amazing the Peacock jacket looks on. Hope you enjoy your long break.

  19. Sublime choice of skirts to partner with your GORGEOUS peacock jacket. IMO, you would be hard pressed to find a better suited skirt to team with that stunning hand illustrated topper.

What great finds! Your new Boss Lady Blazer in particular stole my breath away immediately. Those elegant, completely beguiling colours... swoon!!!
