Regret-Me-Not Palm Tree Skirt

I need to book myself in for a session of outfit-making in my closet; I've run out of pre-done looks and have some items I need to plan for. Like this palm tree printed ruffled wrap-around skirt, for instance.
It's one I hauled out of the giveaway pile a few weeks ago. Will it be a regret-me-not and return to my closet, or will it go back to the giveaway pile?

  • Shirt - Yest; last seen here in March with green stripes
  • Skirt - Scotch & Soda, consignment; purchased and first worn here (2nd outfit) in July 2020!
  • Boots - Rockport, thrifted; last seen here earlier this month with roses and suede
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last worn here in December 2021

In case you're still reeling in shock from seeing me in a plain white shirt, I have done this before.
Um, at least once! See - here, in February 2018, with a different skirt, but same formula, basically.

Mostly, I defaulted to a white shirt because this skirt's pattern is tricky to match with. Aside from brown, it's orange, peach, with a bit of yellow/chartreuse, and the palm tree pattern says "summer" to me.
I only wore this skirt once - ONCE - before chucking it into the giveaway pile. Why? I really disliked the one and only outfit I wore it with, and then it sat in the closet as I struggled to put things with it.

Masked up.
I thought these boots were the right call with the high-low mullet hem. Maybe it's a fall item? But it's a palm tree print! I struggle!

Outerwear - I also really liked the skirt with this bright orange leather jacket.
It's a very full, swooshy wrap-around skirt, but it stayed done up, even in high winds on the walk home!

Incognito and locked and loaded.
It drives me nuts that this coat doesn't have external pockets - it has one internal one, but it's hard to get to when the coat's done up, grrr. However, that colour…I forgive the lack of pockets.

Accoutrements:
My classy vintage designer scarf.

  • Scarf - Lanvin, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren
  • Mask - by Mom
The perfect set of colours.

The stuff:
My knee was better today, but I did less physical work. These boots are practically flats - very comfy.

Copper bling:
One of my small collection of belt buckles worked perfectly with the skirt.

  • Belt - Leather World
  • Buckle - Shi Studio, thrifted
  • Cuff - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Bracelet - Renoir, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Necklace/earrings - Matisse by Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage expo
  • Thin copper ring - Glee
  • Copper ring - vintage, consignment

And so...am I keeping the skirt after all? Yes, I am. I'll try to make another outfit with it later when the weather it hotter, and it might work well in late September. I'm glad I took it back - regret-me-not!

  1. I always enjoy your outfits and adventures so much! I get a kind of feeling that could be described as magical or nostalgic or something of the sort. Peaceful? I just realised it reminds me of the feeling I used to get from a different blog (I shall not name) who used to have quirky Vintage finds but ended up moving too much into modern designer clothes instead! Thanks for filling that void!

  2. Great outfit Sheila, as usual! That skirt is a keeper in mho and looks fantastic with that orange jacket, great for right now but wonderful for Fall.

  3. It's a great skirt, Sheila, so I'm glad you're giving it another chance! As the orange leather jacket looks amazing with it, what about using that colour(or peach) for your top. Not sure if you've got something suitable in your wardrobe? As for the palm trees, I did think they were fireworks until you mentioned it ...
Your copper bling is fabulous - you've really got the most wonderful collection - and how gorgeous is that belt buckle! xxx

  5. Lol glad you're giving the skirt another go-you can always get rid of it for good if it never works out. I like it with the orange but I would have no clue how else to style it, but if anyone can rise to the challenge it's you! Off topic but you've mentioned periodontal cleaning before-I'm due to have my 1st root planing & scaling procedure in a month, have you had any bad side effects from it? I read that it can cause further gum recession which is weird since that's one of the issues it's supposed to treat. I have a lot of recession already, seems like damned if I do & damned if I don't. Anyway, great post as always:)

    1. I've been having that same procedure every 8 months for the past ~8 years, Patricia, and my teeth are in great condition, and my pockets aren't getting any deeper. I have big teeth to begin with (and a big smile), but no gum receding long-term. I get a Halcyon pill to calm my anxiety, pre-freezing, loads of needles, and then the tech goes to work. I do not have the drill as it makes me panic, so she does it by hand. I can only eat soup once the freezing wears off, and it's sore for a day (I take a Tylenol), but then it's great. I also feel a little queasy when I come down off the Halcyon. I am rabid about keeping the spaces in between my teeth clear of food, and use little interdental brushes (proxa-brush is one brand, I think) after I eat to help keep the scale at bay.

  6. Nice outfit. What stands out to me is the belt. It works perfectly.

  7. That skirt is beautiful, I'm glad you were able to give it another wear! it does seem tricky to style but it works so well in this outfit and with all the orange I wonder if you've found a blue top that works with it? It's very pretty indeed so hopefully you can make another outfit just as awesome as this next time you wear it :)

  8. I really like the skirt with the orange jacket, so it should probably stay with you for a while, although I'm not sure what other colour would go with it - maybe gold? Black would be a bit "Halloween".

  9. You just know I am swooning up a substantial storm over the timelessly gorgeous fall hues at play here.

Super lovely outfit. That orange jacket feels like it could have been made specifically to partner with your chic "mullet" hem palm tree print skirt.

  10. I know you resist a white shirt, but girl, this one looks so good on you. It gives all the glory to the skirt, so it is a fab combination. I love the boots with the outfit and you are right, the bright orange jacket is a perfect match with the skirt.
