The Droopy Dress With Aqua

Happy Monday, my friends! I reconsidered my hasty pitching of this dress into the giveaway pile yesterday, and built an outfit with it. What could go wrong?
Turns out, I should have listened to my instincts. This dress is AWFUL. So droopy!

  • Dress - no label, thrifted; purchased here yesterday for $11.95
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last worn here in August 2021 with orange and bold pink
  • Coat (below) - Tadmor, vintage 60s, vintage mall; last seen here in March

It's been a blustery day, full of wind, hail, rain and sun. My view of the Castle this morning.
As you can tell from the stair picture, gusts of wind were attacking me!

Let's get this over with. This dress is horrible on me, particularly the top part. It's droopy, and the pockets land right on my boobs (an unfortunate button placement). I look like I'm melting.
I layered a grey lace half-slip on the bottom (it's Dior, so classy) and a pale pink and grey camisole on the top half. But this dress is SO sheer. It really needs a full lining.

And it is SO droopy.
I tried really hard to make it look right - half of the top is tucked into my leather wrap belt to try to pick up some of the volume in the front. It didn't work.

Oh, that is VERY sheer! Good thing I didn't see many people today.
I did determine that the fabric is a silk chiffon - it wafted beautifully and I admired the skirt while I went down the stairs.

Masked up. You can see it in my eyes.
"I hate this dress and I don't have time to change."

Outerwear - that's more like it.
At least my outerwear looked good.

Incognito.
On the way home, I had to wrap my scarf around my head against the rain/hail.

Accoutrements:
I love this scarf - totally worth the $1.95 I spent at the thrift store years ago.

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Danier Leather
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
My turquoise/aqua "set" is one of my go-tos for when I'm stuck - it goes with everything. I'm on my 57th wearing of these aqua shoes (you either love them or hate them, it's okay).

Aqua bling:
So much good jewelry, wasted on such a bad dress.

  • Leather belt - Bronsino, gift from L
  • Multi-stone/silver bracelet - gift from L
  • Mesh bracelet - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Turquoise/silver ring - Glee

You'll be relieved to know that the Droopy Dress is once again in the giveaway pile! I'll make up for it tomorrow, I promise!

    1. Me too! Turquoise is one of my favourite colours (so hard to pick one!).

  2. You really are quite tiny, and I think the droopiness would be less so on a less trim body,or bigger boned. You'll make someone happy who finds it after you as it is quite gorgeous. It could use one of those slip dresses under perhaps.

    1. Yup, I have a few friends that might rock this, Sam. I tried the slip thing - it looked weird as the pockets are lined.

  3. Maybe over a solid turtleneck and leggings and then cinched with a giant belt. You're right that it isn't working as is.
Everything else looked great though-beautiful blue accessories.

    1. Way too much work for a $12 dress, Goody, but I appreciate the suggestion! Thank you!

  4. I can see why you bought that dress - silk! - but the torso swamps you, you're right, it's gotta go. I absolutely love the turquoise accessories and I'm all over the shoes, they're ace as is the marvellous coat! xxx

    1. Gorgeous fabric, terrible design, Vix. Thank you so much - I'm so happy to have all my turquoise back. :)

  5. such a sad waste of silk chiffon. :( Does the waist have elastic? If so I would be tempted to cut off the over-large top and enjoy the 'skirt'...

    1. It is an elastic waist, plus a few rows of smocked elastic, but it's that kind of chiffon that frays REALLY easily - I considered it, but I don't like it as a skirt enough to do it. Thanks, Mame!

    2. oh well I am sure some (broad-shouldered long torso?) person will enjoy it!

  6. Totally hearing you on the droopiness of the dress, but well done for not only giving it a try but show us your efforts as well. The pattern is gorgeous, though, so I can see why you bought it. Such a shame you weren't able to try it on first.
But a lot has been redeemed by your turquoise bling, belt and shoes - I'll never get tired of seeing the latter - and the amazing coat which is making me slightly green-eyed! xxx

    1. Yup, it was worth a try, Ann! Hopefully one of my friends can make it work. :)

I also never get tired of those shoes - they are so fun. Happy to wear the coat again, even if the weather sucked!

  7. I love the dress, but I too do not like boob pockets, and I will not buy things that have them. Also love the turquoise things with it.

  8. Like you, I am a fan of turquoise and your accents are perfect, buoying the “ahem” dress that had its day, as you noted. Quite enjoyed seeing the Castle, a sure sign weather is changing as it beckons with its colorful roof!

    1. I'll do this full set again at some point, Laurie, but that dress...! Gone!

That sky with the Castle is so dramatic, isn't it? It foretold the torrential rains and wind we've been having for the past few days.

  9. It's a lovely fabric, too bad it's so droopy. The turquoise accents are beautiful!

  10. But it can never hurt to try again right. But this colour doesn't do it for you. But I appreciate that you show it anyway because that is also what real life is about isn't it. Sometimes wearing something that totally doesn't work. I know you will wear something gorgeous today!

    1. I am glad I tried it at least once, Nancy, but that's enough for me. It's good for me to show the failures as well as the successes in my outfits - I'm not perfect!

  11. I'll start with the good: turquoise has been my favourite colour since I was 7 so I'm all over the accessories. And the shoes are gawjus- bog off haters!
Silk would make me buy it too but I do agree that it doesn't flatter your shape once you point it out. Never mind!

No regrets, I'm glad I tried.

  13. What? Sheila is human? Your record of satorial success is so strong that a small failure stands out as exceptional. The rest of us experience this more frequently and our mistakes are worse than a merely-droopy dress. :)

    1. Lol, I don't f**k up as much as I used to, but it was worth a try to see if I could do it. We learn from our mistakes!

  14. I love the turquoise accessories with this but it's a shame it didn't live up to it's expectations - and definitely belongs on the giveaway pile! We can't always have a winning outfit every day, and at least you gave the dress a try!

  15. We all make mistakes with secondhand shopping - I've purchased a few things that seemed like great bargains in the store, and yet upon first wearing turned out to be NOT right for me after all. It's easier to give up something that you only paid $10 for than if it was purchased retail. It's made me more selective when I go thrift shopping.

  16. wow, this a killer outfit! I love how you incorporated all the aquamarine accents.

  17. Anytime an outfit sparks the words "Okay, let's get it over with", there is an exceedingly high chance its main garment(s) are not long for one's closet.

As lovely as that fabric is, I concur that it is excessively droopy and that the button placement is far from idea. I have never liked clothing elements that land in unfortunate bosom spots, so that alone would likely be enough for me to nix (aka, donate) it.

The bevy of turquoise here, however, is top-notch all the way and such an upbeat hue to partner with these fresh, revitalizing days of early spring.

  18. I agree, this dress needs structure, too droopy.
But like you I also like to give things a last spin - just to make sure i will not regret it.

  19. The silk is beautiful, but it's never good to feel like you look like you're melting. (I never wear sweaters with yokes because they all make me look like that.) Some structure somewhere in it - possibly a less full bodice - would have made all the difference. The accessories are superb tho!
