Murder Mystery Dress

Today's outfit features this awesome dress that I picked up on a recent shopping trip.
It reminds me of Clue (the boardgame and/or movie), Gloom (a card game) and Edward Gorey (a fabulous illustrator/writer).

  • Dress - Scotch & Soda by Maison Scotch, consignment; purchased here for $79.99
  • Shoes - Aldo, thrifted; last seen here in July 2021 with blush ruffles
  • Coat (below) - Tadmor, vintage 60s, vintage mall; last worn here earlier this month

I'm a walking murder mystery! You can check the link above to see pictures of the four unique panels of people in their "ateliers".
It's such an unusual print - it's massive and yet really detailed. The black on the sleeves and wrap-front help ground it.

I helped anchor the massive print with my giant blue rose belt.
The skirt is very lightly pleated - this isn't a full skirt at all. Would have been nice if it had POCKETS, ahem, Maison Scotch...

Incognito outerwear.
It's been gradually getting warmer over the past week, but it's still cold in the mornings. Leather weather!

Accoutrements:
I wrapped the scarf three times around my throat and knotted it. It matched the dress print perfectly!

  • Silk scarf - Anne Klein, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
  • Gloves - Parkhurst
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I'd planned on wearing a higher heel, but I have a cat-related knee issue (he likes to sleep on my legs), so I grabbed these low red strappy cloth shoes.

Bold bling:
I needed some of my boldest pieces to stand out against the Murder Mystery Dress!

  • Belt - Rohesia Belt, Fluevog; last worn here in February
  • Pendant - Miracle, Charmaine's
  • Cuff - thrifted; purchased here for $7.95
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique store, Sidney

Are you a fan of bold patterns?

  2. I wasn't convinced when you showed us the dress, but it looks absolutely amazing on! Its pattern is indeed reminiscent of Clue (which here goes by the name of Cluedo). Such fun!
The giant rose belt was a good choice, and so were the red shoes and blue and red bling. Oh, and here's that divine coat again. I'm swooning every time I see it. Sorry to hear about your cat-related knee issue. I've been having a knee issue too, but unfortunately I can't blame it on Bess :-) xxx

  4. I really love this dress. I actually am fonder of dresses but do have nice suits that I have had for years. I just like the convenience of one piece. Sorry about the knee. I think knee pain is the worst.

  5. I like how you always name your clothes...and you do it so well. It shows your creativity!
This dress is absolutely beautiful. I can see why it makes you think of The Clue. The bold accessories you wore with this dress are just perfect. I love the red accents. The scarf is really chic as well.
I googled Edward Gorey and realized that I saw some of his illustrations before- I just didn't know it was him. I'm happy I can connect the art and the artist now. Thanks for sharing. I will read more about him when I have time. He seems like a fascinating artist.

  6. I was interested to read that it's called Clue in Canada, like Ann, we know it as Cluedo!
Either way it's a fantastic dress and it looks brilliant on.
Fancy Vizzini causing you a knee problem, naughty boy. I hope it eases up soon. xxx

  8. This is such a beautiful dress on you, what a shame it does not have pockets, otherwise it would be perfect! I really like how you've styled it here - even your outerwear all coordinates so well! I struggle with that as I don't have a lot of coats or jackets for colder weather as it never seems to stick around long here!

  9. I really like the print on that dress (which I think I mentioned when you bought it) so it's nice to see the dress in action, so to speak.

  10. Stellar outfit - and trio of things that it reminds you. True to our peas-in-a-podness, I see all three as well and also adore each of those things/people. In fact, Clue is my second favourite board game of all time (topped only by Scrabble).

  11. This beautiful dress I would call a 'handkerchief dress' or 'panel dress'. Both meant lovingly as it is a good dress. You did well to add the belt and shoes.

Love the black frames around the panels, love the colours and the print!
