April Snow, Repeat Dot Combo and Pleats

As I was getting dressed this morning, I looked out the window and realized, "IT'S SNOWING." In April!

View from the deck:
Gobs of slushy snow came pelting down!

Snowing over at the Castle too.
Well, that was exciting, but I still had pictures of today's outfit to do!

This cardigan/top/shoe combination is a winner.
It's a great way to create an easy outfit out of an unusual skirt.

  • Cardigan - Gap, thrifted; last worn here in September 2021 with these shoes
  • Black top - Plum, thrifted; last seen here in September 2021 for a Mental Health shop
  • Skirt - Mac & Jac, consignment; purchased here for $28.00
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in September 2021 with this cardi
  • Coat (below) - Sarmite Wearable Art, consignment; last seen here in March

I could barely see the Castle.
But the glow of the tower window is reassuring.

Back to the outfit!
I repeated this same combo a year ago in April 2021 (here, or pic only).

And the last time I wore both of them...was together.
The colour and style of the skirt doesn't feel right with my spring summer wardrobe, so it's been tucked away for 6 months. I think it will look amazing with boots and blazers.

It does wondrous things for my rear view!
The front pleats got soaked with snow on the way to work and need to be steamed crisp again.

Masked up.
My mask - which I carry to work dangling from my wrist - also got soaked on the way to work (I put it on before I enter our building). Yuck, wet mask. Blerg.

Outerwear - I forgot to take a picture of the accoutrements, even though I laid them all out, as I'd planned different outerwear and was uncaffeinated and flustered. OMG, snow!
Thank goodness I kept this lovely wool and cashmere coat out for spring! It, the beret and the gloves all got soaked. It all dried out fine, and I walked home in sunshine (and chilly wind).

  • Beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
I love these shoes - they are comfy and make my legs look great.

Black and white bling:
Yay, there's my new black and white round cuff that I bought with Mom at Mattick's Farm (here).

  • Round cuff - Zsiska
  • Octagonal cuff - vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Bakelite earrings - vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Chain ring - Taxco, Charmaine's
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower

Get used to my black and white set - I'll be wearing it a lot!

  2. We're more likely to get snow here in April than we are December but it still catches everyone out when it happens! I hope your temperatures warm up again soon.
That's a fabulously cheery Spring outfit and a fabulous coat! xxx

  3. First impressions always matter and my first, immediate impression, was YES! Like you, I enjoy the matching of the polka dots and the blacks and whites. The skirt is every bit as perfect on as I thought it would be. My mind is imagining the same two tops with the new black blazer over this skirt, same shoes and accessories. See what reading your blog is teaching me! I want to mix and match. :)

As for the snow, oof, we saw a snow forecast for Olympia just a few days ago. Weather! Yay for your colorful coat!

  4. Well, yeah. April snow would be odd in NY but you live in Canada, eh? Without snow, your igloo would melt. :)

The outfit is pretty. Simple (but not really) and well-constructed. I'd love to have your talent in assembling ensembles.

  5. I know, snow in April! We had snow too, on the 1st of April, as if it was some kind of April Fools joke. It was gone in a couple of hours, though.
The skirt is cute, but I think you're right and it's more of an Autumn/Winter garment. It would indeed look amazing with tall boots.
Loving the black and white bling, too. And yay for keeping that stunning cashmere coat in your Spring wardrobe! xxx

  6. The snow with so much green is strangely beautiful. That coat is stunning.

  8. When the pandemic started we first joked about people wearing masks on their wrist and then we all started doing it. I do it to especially when I know I will be using public transport.
I love your outfits. Dots are always wonderful. Love how you matched your shoes with a dotted cardigan.

  9. We had some snow here this week too, along with intermittent rain. I have to remind myself that it is still April and as far as the weather goes, anything could happen.

  10. You've got to love how many of us who document our ensembles adopt a similar motto to that of the US postal system. Re: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Only, in our case, swap in the words "courier" for "fashion lover" and "outfit photos" for "appointed rounds". 😃

It's wild that the Island - let alone such as southernly portion as Victoria - received snow in April. This was one of those rare years where we bypassed receiving any in April around these North Okanagan parts (at least at ground level - I did see some fresh dustings on the surrounding hills a time or two throughout the month). There's still a very slim chance of some in May, but that would be a decent rarity for this area. Hopefully not! We've almost gotten to the point of being able to wear open-toed shoes again and I am sooo itching to put my snow boots into hibernation once again.

Fingers cross that you won't get any more snow this winter/spring either.
