Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Brocade and Booted Brunch; Pub Gathering in Bolds

Hello, my friends, and welcome back! I hope you've all had a lovely long weekend - I still have a little time left in mine, so let's get to it. I have a lap that is ready for a cat to sleep on.

On Saturday, L and I met Nick for brunch at the Ruby.
I wanted to sneak in a wearing of this new-to-me Boss Lady Jacket before I packed it away for the fall.

  • Jacket - Citrine, early 00s, consignment; purchased here for $75.00
  • Blouse - Renuar, thrifted; last seen here in March, layered under zigzags
  • Leather pants - Free People, Portland, Oregon; last worn here in December 2021 for New Year's Eve
  • Boots - Clarks; last seen here earlier this month with the Greetje dress

I actually struggled to find things to wear with this jacket, and ended up going all neutral.
Yeah, shiny gold leather pants are neutral for me!

Isn't the jacket fabulous?
I do love the sharp shoulders and the long frock-coat style.

Without the jacket, although I never took it off. These leather pants are VERY low-rise - it's dangerous to bend over in them!
This is the first time I've ever worn boots over them, and I liked the look.

Masked up - for in the restaurant, in a couple of stores.
I'm not taking any chances.

Buttoned up - the jacket is snug over the boobular region.
Eh, whatever, my scarf will hide it.

With the gloves, scarf and bag.
Due to the long weekend, we stood in line at the Ruby for close to 30 minutes.

Incognito. This might be our last brunch at the Ruby for a while, as Ultimate Frisbee starts up next week.
And we'll go back to running around on the field, hucking discs at each other. We've been playing Ulti since 1999!

Accoutrements:
I borrowed the scarf from L's pile of dressy scarves.

  • Purse - Ted Lapidus, vintage 90s, vintage fair
  • Scarf - vintage, thrifted
  • Gloves - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Mask - by Mom

The stuff:
Good basic boots.

Matchy bling:
That fabric flower is one of my oldest - I think it's pre-blog!

  • Flower - Le Chateau, c. 2007
  • Metal flower brooch - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neuman, Finland, vintage mall
  • Copper ring - local
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Earrings - Kenneth Cole, thrifted; purchased here for $7.95

After brunch, we all walked down to the Fluevog store - L had a couple of gift cards, and bought himself these purple and gold booties here (links 'cause I love!). I've been thinking about their new line of silk scarves, and bit on this floral one.
It was $79.00.

Link here, again 'cause I love.
The colours are what sold me: this deep violet, the reds, the blues, the aqua. This will go with a lot in my wardrobe, including my coats. It is surprisingly hard to find purples in scarves!

Plus, it's roses, which I love.
"Walk in Peace." No other branding or anything - I like that it doesn't have JF or Fluevog plastered all over it.

L and I spent much of our weekend doing chill things, like reading, listening to music, and playing boardgames, but we also hung out with our Family We Choose in a welcome return to indoor long weekend gatherings on Sunday afternoon.
I've had this outfit sitting out on hangers waiting for this since I bought the skirt and belt earlier on my extra-long weekend.

  • Jacket - Animale, thrifted; last worn here in July 2021
  • Top - Alexander McQueen, early 00s, consignment; first seen here in September 2021 with brown linen
  • Mumbai skirt - consignment; purchased here mere days ago for $79.00
  • Boots - Official Sabado, Fluevog; last worn here on the last Mom-Day adventure

Thanks so Vix (here) for confirming my hunch that this skirt was a tourist piece - she ID'd it as being the same type sold in Mumbai when she was there in 2020, so henceforth it shall the Mumbai skirt so that I can find it again in my searches.
We walked to town to meet up with our awesome group of friends at the Garrick's Head Pub.

I completely loved wearing this massive cotton skirt and swooshing it around and basically taking up space. You could hide a multitude of marshmallows under there!
The silk/viscose blend top is early 00s Alexander McQueen, found last year at Turnabout for $68.00, a real score.

Everyone loves the Completely Impractical Raincoat.
Let's see...it's cropped, the sleeves are short, and the neckline is wide.

Partially done up.
And showing off the skirt's pockets.

Masked up - there weren't too many people around, but I did wear my mask a few times.
I wore tights and a vintage half-slip for warmth and tight-creep prevention - I also had a camisole on under the top. I'd pulled out my Fluevog pointy-toes pumps to go with this outfit, when I realized, "OMG, this calls for my blue boots!"

Incognito.
I had to dig into my stored winter coats to find my orange leather gloves, which had gone missing. I was relieved to find them in the pockets of the Grape Ape coat.

Fully done up.
By the time we walked home, it was chilly and windy. I was glad of the scarf and gloves, although my forearms were chilled.

Accoutrements:
My pokey punk purse makes a rare appearance - I had to dust it off and touch up a couple of scuffs on the wooden handle (felt pen to the rescue!).

  • Purse - Melie Bianco, thrifted
  • Scarf - Marc Rozier, thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment
  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

The stuff:
Any excuse to wear these boots - I hope I'll be wearing them when I'm 90!

Bold bling:
When I tried the skirt on in Turnabout I put this belt on with it - they're a perfect match. I tucked the attached long tie-belt ends inside the skirt.

  • Belt - Lasso, vintage 80s, consignment; purchased here for $28.00
  • Black and white cuff - vintage fair
  • Orange cuff/ring - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - vintage fair
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Cat pin - Charmaine's

I wore the cat pin on the front of the Impractical Raincoat's collar.

I thought you might enjoy the mess of things from stripping off all of my gear upon arriving home, as you can see the inside of the purse (eee! polka dots!).
The sunglasses are not Gucci - but the case is! I like that the bracelet is still on the glove.

I took my camera along to the gathering, but spent more time gabbing and enjoying my dear friends' company. I did take a couple of pics, though.
The cherry trees are in bloom, and L is looking very springy in his all-blue outfit.

I love these fat blossoms.
They make me sneeze, but they are so pretty.

Two dogwood trees in bloom outside these Victorian era/design houses.
I think both of them now are lawyers' offices.

Same with these two across the street.
These old houses are usually split up into some sort of office or retail business, and one further down the street even tried a restaurant. This is the type of house my mom grew up in, same neighbourhood.

We sat in the oldest part of the Garrick's Head,  which is haunted - the fireplace in the pic below is where the ghost is known to appear, about it here. L had just gotten his pint of Dark Matter beer and was pontificating over his latest CD purchase (Paul Cauthen's "Country Coming Down).
He looks so...sleazy?...in his vintage polyester shirt (a Vancouver find), his early 00s lion-head pendant and mildly inappropriate metal band pin. Love it!

And here's my wonderful Family We Choose. From left: Yvonne, Vero, Justin, Randall, Ross, Nick, L, Casey and Cat.
Ah, that small bit of normalcy was just what we needed.

There was no small amount of kitty-time this weekend, either. Vizzini kept me company on the deck on Saturday, while I worked on the Autumn Jacket.
"Your lap looks cozy."

We're getting all the sun we can!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! Back to the madness of work tomorrow, so I'm off to enjoy some more of it.

  1. Both your outfits totally rock! I love the silver trousers tucked into your boots with the amazing coat over the top and you've owned the Mumbai skirt, the McQueen top, those boots and the impractical raincoat are utterly perfect!
L looks pimptastic, those new boots are out of this world.
How exciting that Ultimate Frisbee is almost back - a return to normality!
Look at how regal Vizzini looks in his puddle of sinshine - do give him a squeeze from me! xxx

  3. Ultimate Frisbee Returns! True confession, that was my first thought on reading your post. Yay for soon to be playing outdoors and moving with friends. :)

Of course, I immediately returned from Frisbee to your outfits, which both say “ready to roll.” Each had me wowing, the first for the shine and the amazing Boss Lady coat, which reminds me of a dress you have with similar coloring and sheen. Maybe they could be a couple?

And then your Gathering With the Family You Choose outfit. Hazaah! The entire ensemble speaks to Spring and renewal, and OF COURSE the blue boots! And the blue top. :)

I wonder what caused Jon Fluevog to go into scarves? I agree that it is nice there isn’t any branding on your purple beauty, and Wow for the lushly colored, soothingly patterned scarf.

Here’s to Spring, blossoming trees and flowers, Ultimate Frisbee with friends, and a breath of fresh air!

  6. That Boss Lady Jacket is utterly fabulous, and I love the shiny gold leather trousers tucked into your boots! That's such a great look. I'm also loving L.'s scarf in this outfit.
The silk Fluevog scarf, by the way, is a stunner.
My favourite outfit is the second one with the Mumbai skirt. Tourist piece or not, I would definitely have bought that one too. You styled it just perfectly, with all that colour. I even spied that crazy, Completely Impractical Raincoat! And how fab is your pokey punk purse!
Your gathering with the Family You Choose looks delightful. Yes, I think we can all do with a bit of normalcy, although I confess I'm still not comfortable with groups of people. It's going to be baby steps for me, I guess. xxx

  8. Oh that coat is so pretty. And I love it so much that the cuffs pop onder the sleeve and that the flower with a bit of the collar is shown too. And the skirt looks ama, I already loved it when you showed it without wearing it. But it's such a statement skirt, very nice. Couldn't link to L's me shoes though.

  11. I love the gold pants and I really like them with that jacket! That Mumbai maxi skirt is my favourite outfit in this post though, the skirt, the print the colour, all so awesome and cheerful! It's nice you were able to catch up with your friends too - it's just a different feeling spending time face to face now than it was pre-2020 I think!

  12. That jacket really is fabulous - the whole ensemble has a slight 'Sun King' vibe (a very good thing).

Do you know how the Garrick's Head got its name? We have a Garrick's Head in Bath, attached to the theatre, though the actor himself never drank there.

    1. I always thought it meant "deer" or "stag" as that's the head that's in their logo! I never heard of the actor. No idea where the name came from!

  13. Be still my heart! I knew that your recently acquired long blazer was going to be stunning, but it as good as knocked me clear off my feet here!

    Good stars, is that gorgeous!!!

You styled it awesomely! Neutrals, including silver, were a great direction to take things in as they really allow this elegantly beautiful topper to shine all the more.

When reaching for colour, a few possibilities that immediately spring to mind for me include brown, cream, slate blue, eggplant, dark plum, deep tones of dusty rose, brass/bronze, mustard, and charcoal grey. It could be a bit more of a wildcard choice, but I cannot help wondering how a deep pine or forest green would work with it as well.

And how wonderfully fun + vibrant + beautiful is your maxi skirt ensemble? Answer: immensely! What a joyful look and way to, I have no doubt, bring a welcome hit of cheer to many who say you sporting it.

  14. I adore the first outfit. So gorgeous and flattering, it took my breath away.
I also love the big skirt, but I would pair it with something simpler at the top. As I would, as you know.
